This should make quite a lot of people happy!

I am a fan of this change... But I agree that the ship being wanted and not the player is daft. Maybe if standard scan only gives ship name and crimes on the ship, and then KWS goes deeper and digs out CMDR name and all crimes regardless of ship that would make more semse

I don't think giving more options, thought and planning on the part of the player is daft.

Well there was that instance in America that a man was beating a cop to death on the highway. Long story short a citizen walked up gave 3 warnings to the guy a shot him dead. They commended that guy for saving a law enforcement person. In elite they would say you murdered someone with no reason and without scanning him. So we are going to put a bounty and fine on you and kill you. You should of just sat there a watched. Well thats what some elite players want.
I was leaning towards the cop being an Elite Player who then stands up and shoots his saviour. Just me though...

Some of the mechanics in this game remind me of the horses and chickens that can witness crimes in Skyrim... :D

I'm glad it's sorted in .03

I won't miss waiting for a scan to complete while a wing of pirates pummels a lonely miner in a RES.

"HELP, THEY'RE TRYING TO KILL ME!"
"hang on, still scanning!"
"HURRY UP, I'M DYING HERE!"
"Hold on, I don't know if they're criminals"
"THEY'RE TRYING TO MURDER ME, OF COURSE THEY'RE @#&#!?@ CRIMINALS!"
"Done, here I..."

*Boom*

"Oh..."
This made me think of the Dead Pool 2 trailer where he is trying to change in the phone booth...

Isnt another advantage of this, that two wanted pvpers in a system from rival player groups, who want to get it on with each other, can do so without the cops ruining the fun.

People complained about this for ages and being the fanboy that I am I always told them to scan their targets first. Now that it gets changed it's obviously the right way to go and we should all be thankful that FDEV listens to the critical part of our community... :D
Being a proper white knight is certainly schizophrenic at times ;)

That is a very good change.

This once bothered me, but I've gotten used to it. The anonymous protocols go a long way to add to the believability. In days of old, pirates were known by their ships. If said pirate decided to take their leisure boat for a day and dress fancy (false ID, i.e. anonymous protocols) instead of like a pirate, they could easily go unnoticed through open water and even a port. Taking a more sci-fi approach, Khan (original) knew to find Kirk by finding the Enterprise. The Empire (SW) hates the Millennium Falcon, but our band of merry rebels (ROTJ) are able to slip past Imperial forces by using another ship and stolen ident codes (anonymous protocols).

I think the key is to NOT compare it to cops scanning license plates on cars, though even modern police will put out an APB on the vehicle, as that's what people will see (thus smart criminals ditch said vehicle ASAP). I will grant that there are a few holes in Frontier's implementation, but that's ED in a nutshell - holy holey logic. I've learned to adapt to it (mostly)

I may be missing a well known forum in-joke or something so apologies if that's the case but did you know you have a spelling mistake in your sig Zig?

I assume you're referring to the missing L in boldly. If I had noticed it, it would have triggered me as well. Lol. Well spotted sir. :)
