Finally! (thanks to 3.0) I have a Corvette...(now with vid in post 110)

Did you try the new UI for it? (click on the button at the top).

I will, thanks.

Cool! I was referring to the high dollar/G5 mat reward Assassination Missions. Those always involve a Level 4 Vette or Conda and somethings both at the same time, if you have any additional enemies involved you didn't bother to kill in advance of the main target instance. :)

The encounter will be much different than it is with a smaller, much more nimble ship.

You'll see. :) I really enjoy these, and now you can take on the Wing Mission versions Solo if you want to hone your multi-target techniques. :D

I can solo the assassinations in the FGS without the fighter, good fun, but yeh, that is definitely something the corvette will be doing from now on (the FGS will be gutted and sold!) :)

I went reinforced shields with 2 HD boosters only and the rest resistant boosters so technically you could go above 4500 MJ and perhaps beyond 5000 MJ.

However i have 70% explosive resitance, 65 % kinetic resistance and 50 % thermal resistence with a very solid MJ amount of about 4500 MJ - that easily trumps raw MJ strenght IMO.

Plus the diminishing returns on Booster stacking means its always better to have a mix if you can.

Cheers, pvp build I assume, get alot of explosive attacks?

Yeah i do a fair bit of pvp but ive never had any isses at all in a res site either.

The explosive resistance was not intended really - i think shields base explosive resistance just starts higher. Much like the kinetic resistance does.

That said..pack hounds are popular so yeah..its deffo not a bad thing at all as missels i basically laugh off now.

Its tempting to go for raw MJ as you feel like its the right choice. But you simply make youself vunerable to certain loadouts. If you have 6000 Mj but have low thermal or kinetic resistance and you come up against someone rocking all lasers or all Mcs you are hosed.

Kofeyh called it the day after 3.0 went live, I think.

Even I (with no Fed rank whatsoever, and Master with the Imps for the Courier) would consider pushing for a Corvette, if I liked flying big ships.

Well, I have to say, despite being a small ship guy...I LIKE IT A LOT! :) Probably because it can be flown like a small ship, almost.

I've got everything in it I wanted except Reactive bulks, will need another half bn for that. Engineering is going to be an issue, that's for sure, I'm running around in the courier pinning all the blueprints at the moment.

Here's some Core Dynamics pr0n for you guys to be getting along with. :)

Thanks for your thoughts and the info on the hardpoints, helpful. Regarding beams, long range vs efficient is basically based on the speed of the ship for me. .

Long range are fine, but you absolutely MUST run them all fixed to be effective at range, since the gimbal's and turret's target-lock are far too innacurate beyond about 1km to be of any use. Why they have this weird sort of meandering jitter is beyond me, but that's the way the game works.

The Corvette certainly works well with fixed lasers but fighting at long range misses the point of its great agility. It can dogfight in turns with much smaller ships and the gimbals are my preference for the two C4 hardpoints on top because they add another 20-30 degrees to your firing arc in a tight dogfight.

How you prefer to fly will dictate your choice of modification but if you enjoy close combat you probably want efficiency so that you can take pips out of WEP and put them into ENG.

And here I am doing what I bought it for. :) Dakka dakka with a couple of feedback rails is a really nice setup for this ship, the DPS is INSANE. When I target the Cobra, don't blink, MAN that thing popped fast!

That's right. OEM plus and any color as long as it's black. ;)

Don't bother with the Body Kit! It ruins the lines of the ship!

Instead I would invest in the "Reaver" kit instead! If you end up using the ship like most of us veteran Corvette pilots... "Strategic Ramming" will be a staple part of your 1v1 combat engagement toolbox.

Having all those spikes sticking out of your ship definitely adds to the menace! :) That kit looks especially cool on top of the Chromed Paintjob!

I built mine "backwards" and don't use turrets.
It was based around the c1/2 slots with rails/hammers, all feedback cascade for the firing rate and SCB benefit.
Most of the weapons you can put in the c1 slots have pathetic damage so I wanted to shore that up as much as possible.
This makes an awesome 8 shot burst btw.

I use 2 efficient beams with thermal vent in the c4s, and a c3 LR MC with corrosive shell.
So counter-intuitively, I generally use the larger hardpoints for closer or smaller targets, and the c1/2s for further/larger ones.

You can just melt pesky small ships with the beams, and I can double bank c7 SCBs just using the thermal vent effect.

So I can get away with just two fire groups; beams+mc/rails+hammers, and beams/*SCBs.
You can get very good firing time with this combo.

*There is still a heat sink on that trigger, but it's superfluous at this point.
I just haven't taken it off since 3.0.
Might put in a PD...

I also have a pair of low heat TLB PAs, but I prefer the beam/rail combo.

I might give the beams a try, focused with thermal vent sounds interesting. We have similar philosophies, I wanted to like the PAs (and have kept them), but I preferred the Multicannons in the end.
