Frontier's HUGE Hill to Climb

The only way FDev can make a genuine improvement to this game is by adding some actual fun, interesting, varied gameplay loops. As has been pointed out ad nauseam by everyone, almost all of the gameplay design is incredibly repetitive and dull and makes little to no use of the whole bunch of excellent mechanics they created (flight/scooping/docking/stealth/combat/etc.)

They will 'fix' this game when they add interesting combat scenarios, canyon racing scenarios, 'heist' missions/scenarios, etc. etc. all the gameplay ideas that were implemented by hundreds of thousands of games between the release of Elite 1 and Elite Dangerous.
Until then it will continue to be a beautiful boring mess.

That's the strangest thing ever I think. "Beautiful boring mess". Either it's so damn beautiful that everything else doesn't matter, which means that you wouldn't have to complain, or you wouldn't play and thus wouldn't need to post anything here.
I still play the game and I am having fun. Perhaps it's me that I just can't see that "boring mess" part, though I sure see the beauty of the game while I am having fun playing. Strange, isn't it?

Frontier is going to have to do something absolutely spectacular to bounce back from the total and complete failure of 3.0.3.
Frontier is going to have to do something absolutely spectacular to pass the total and complete success of 3.0.3 after fixing a few minor bugs that comes with the territory. So much for another lame thread.

gotta make an average of these two extreme and totally unrealistic viewpoints: 3.0.3 another lost opportunity

- engineers which was deemed to be 'improved', has been confirmed to stay, making power creep and grind just worse, with added grandfathering slow action venom. good to know
- rampant mission payout bogus circus has half the forum in flames
- c&p smart (tm) technology has the other half in deep circular narcolepsia
- planets look nicer, game is still playable
- life goes on

much 'media attention' but a rather unremarkable release. please go on.

Funny , on steamcharts, ED hit peak players for the last past month, the highest since Dec. 2015, and 80% of highest peak in Nov. 2015. http://steamcharts.com/app/359320
Steamspy shows 107,104 active players average for the last two weeks. https://steamspy.com/app/359320
That's just steam stats only.

Last two weeks: active players/day average:

"Elite Dangerous", 107k
"Eve: Online", 48k
"Star Trek: Online", 32k
"No Man's Sky", 28k
"Star Conflict: Journey", 21k
"Fractured Space", 19k
"Rebel Galaxy", 16k
"Starpoint Gemini: Warlords", 8k
"Hellion", 6k
"Endless Sky", 5k
"Starmade", 3k
"Everspace", 2k
"X3: Reunion", 2k
"X: Rebirth VR", 1.7k
"Starpoint Gemini 2", 1.5k
"Galaxy on Fire 2:, 1.5k
"Universe Sandbox", 1.5k

Not bad for a space genre game "dead" or "dying".

Who's going to let facts get in the way of a good rant?

Its the usual cycle. A few weeks before x.y beta starts people hype themselves, then people are (mostly) constructive during beta, happy for two days following release and then we're back to the endless moaning and doom-mongering. FWIW: its only the DD forum. You can read a lot of sane and balanced discussions in the other sub forums, and most people just play the game.

Tbh, I think its cool that Frontier allows the DD board to be such a cesspit of moaning and despair, but its a prime example of why most studios wont have it.

Yeah its pretty spectacularly bad. Simple things broken that the least effort at testing should have caught.
Whats scariest to me is that exposure to 3.03 seems to have impaired the cognitive and visual acuity of some of the players. They dont seem to be able to find or comprehend the bug report portion of the forum and think everything is just peachy :)

Well, as opposed to other players that are always ranting and whining about EVERYTHING.
You can have two approach for things :

- the cup is half empty
- the cup is half full

I prefer to choose the latter, and enjoy what i can in the game... and there are a lot
Stating that 3.0.3 is a complete failure is an insult to the devs and the team who spent hours, days and weeks working on it

Personally im a "cup is twice as big as it needs to be" guy.

A game is dying thread? Why wasn't i invited?!

DOOOOOOM!!!!

OP - did you base your opinion of the patch based off the number of compliant threads, or is it that your opinion is negative so you are using the complaint threads as justification for your own opinion?

Yeah, game has bugs at the moment, but its still the same game it was before the patch, and the same game more or less that was released over 3 years ago. It didn't die 3 years ago when it had a lot less features. Maybe at some point in the coming years it will die, but today is not that day.

What you have described can be simplified by the phrase "The map isn't the territory"

The devs begin to share the map of new changes to come on live stream and text that is worded in such a way to blend with player feedback giving rise to optimism and hype within the player base.

The past few if not all updates have been kinda what I imagine the map shared by leaders of DDay to the 1st wave soldiers were told.
Ok, guys, we will catch them by brutal surprise and wipe the beaches with them with our superior power like they weren't even there...etc

Then comes the experience of the territory.

The chaos and aftermath has been probably about the same, yeah?

The only question is, does FD have similar resources as the allies did to survive these --aftermaths?
