FD, admit it: you cannot fix navy rank\invite\permit missions.

I was Air Force for 10 years. I had to work for a living flying around in a RPG magnet, so watch your tongue!

Chairforce :D

As someone with 19 years service with the Navy, I'm contractually obligated to make fun of the Air Force every chance that presents itself. It's in the enlistment oath, I checked. :D

Squiddie :p

Yeah, the one that kept getting beat up by the army and having their lunch money stolen. Here's your money back, go get some milk, Your welcome :)

Hahaha, you are just so adorable. :D

No but... A lot of people who have spent X amount of hours grinding, seem to want everyone AFTER them to HAVE to do the same! Surely, we should be trying to encourage MORE players, not less. Too much grind deters people. Most of us cannot spend 2-3 hours on the game at a time as we have lives and families. I'm not saying dumb down the game, just take away unnecessary grind.
Like a lot on these boards, I also spent multiple hours trying to get my rank to rear admiral (my next rank) and must have done enough missions over the weekend to get to the rank after! It feels Like I lost a weekend trying to get through that mess rather than a weekend setting up a new Courier which is the end result required. Just downright soul destroying to the point I'm now reading about X4 and other space games due out... :(

I'm going to live down to Forum expectations by entering this debate late to contribute a meaningless statement.

Done.

Thankyou.

Carry on.

PS .... Another thread is reporting the rank missions are up and running :p

I have no problem with the current method to gain ranks, bugs happen, the angst ridden teens need to pop a Ritalin and go play with their fidget spinners until they are fixed.

Too many folks coming to the game want everything handed to them on a plate. ED is not that sort of game, was never designed to be; yet so many seem to have missed the entire point of Elite Dangerous and it's design as a sandbox game, instead expecting something akin to pacman in space. Although, I predicted as much back when they announced the games launch on Steam, along with the constant stream of whine that would result.

However, I do wish being in one of the faction Militaries had more meat to it, some reason to join beyond a few ships and handful of permits, with players aligned to only one Navy or the other. It is an area of the game that has some great potential for both PVE and PVP, if only development resources could be directed it's way for a while.

I think they're a good idea and I've never had any trouble getting rank up missions on either of my characters with one exception, which was when Qwent decided he just wasn't going to give out his permits for a while.

You don't lose the progression past the current level. Once you do the rank up mission you won't be at 0% of the next rank.

Well, personally I enjoy my story of the lone postman being so admired for his ability to punctually deliver mail that they made him rear admiral, gave him permission to visit secret military installations and gave him the keys to their strongest frigate. And what would that story be without the epic tale of yet another postal delivery to celebrate new commissions.

Satire aside, I don't mind ranking missions. But I think they should be tougher missions and a bit more epic feeling.

Yes, very true what you say !

And the biowaste must get through ..... to save the Empire !

In the timescale that it should take why is a delay of a couple of days in sorting this even a thing... oh yes because some folks want it all now.

Well as the issue is fixed...cos I just got mine and still cant get the vette...got the cutter as a consolation prize though...makes this thread sorta pointless now hmm?

They should make the naval rank increase with years of service like a real military....:D

Until they can fix it though I guess it can be automatic.

I'd like to see ranking missions where you have to join up with a fleet and jump to a location and be in a major battle...Like a giant CZ with tons of ships and capital ships. Now that would be a ranking mission!!
The military I served in required testing above a certain rank to receive one of the open slots.

There's no real military presence in the game. How often do you see military ships at Nav beacons or stations? The only place I see them is USS and POI type sites. They could do away with ranking as far as I am concerned. I find it odd that a faction leader with no military rank insignia can promote you anyhow.

As I read somewhere (probably wiki but don't quote me on that) all naval ranks are "honorary" ones, not official navy ranks. That would explain why actual ranking is made in such backwater places, far far away from real power's seats.

In general, navy missions, ranks and rank ups are in dire need of a rework. Currently they feel like completely opposite to what it should be.
