All of that text, and am i the only one who sees the actual baseline? Maybe i am the exception, but i fly seveal different ships, depending what i am doing. I have five ships which regularily leave the hangar and have individual paintjobs. Would FD sell a package of "one paintjob for all ships", i probably would've picked the one paintjob i liked the most, bought it once and never spent anything again.
.
You see the difference? I think the current setup is advantageous for FD.
.
Advantageous in the short run, but in the long run, I think it works to their disadvantage, because they'd move fewer units (if my hypothesis is correct). I think (although I may be completely wrong, I admit) that more people would buy more paint packs if they covered every ship. You may have bought a paint pack for each ship you use regularly, but I think you
are the exception, as you say; for every one of you, how many others said "man, each paint job only covers one ship? I'm not wasting money if I have to buy a new job for each ship I own." and settled on only one paint pack anyway?
I don't have all the data available to
prove my model would be more successful than the current one. I'd need to know how many units they've moved, how many paint packs have been bought per player on average, and a whole slew of other data that I can't even think of. I guess it all depends on how many people agree with my frame of mind ("Universal Paint Packs" would be a more worthwhile investment than "Per ship" ones) vs. your frame of mind (preferring to pay for "per ship" paint packs).
Instinctively, however, I feel like my model of Universal paint packs would move more units than the current "per ship" paint packs, and in the end, more units moved for the same price equals more profit. And that's assuming they wouldn't jack up the price for each Universal pack; I'd still pay for a couple of paint packs even if they cost a little more, if I knew that no matter what ship I was in, it'd have access to the paint pack. Now, they'd be moving MORE units at a HIGHER profit per pack.
Bottom line: They've gotten my $3.00, but that's very likely all they'll get from me (and players like me). If they make paint packs Universal, they'll get more from me (and players like me).
