Considering all the crap Star Citizen gets away with I dont even see this issue as a tiny blip on the radar. Also intended as a sidenote this quickly ramps up to become another "ED is not the topic" remark by our favorite ̶d̶̶i̶̶c̶̶t̶̶a̶̶t̶̶o̶̶r̶ Yaffle

I SAW THAT.

Holy smokes. That seems to be an admission that none of those careers had been planned out At ALL let alone working out how it was going to fit into the rest of the game - and then as the sucker punch - that none of the them will be in 3.2 as they've too much else to fix.

So Star Citizen as it is, has more gameplay in it than Sea Of Thieves according to Crobber. That is rather insulting to developers of another game.

I'm listening to that right now, I had to go and check he really said this because I didn't quite believe it. He's saying there's more gameplay, more ships, more map area and more stuff to do in Star Citizen than there is in Sea of Thieves. He's also saying that their flight model needs a lot more work so I don't quite see how that's being used as a selling point or a plus for the game when I read posts about it on here.

Star Citizen: Reverse the Verse LIVE - Alpha 3.2 Feature Survey w/ Chris Roberts

Chris Roberts:
3.1 ah, is definitely performing better that 3.0 and ah, you know, that's going to continue on as we work on some of our more LONG TERM things we talked about, which, you know, OBJECT CONTAINER STREAMING will help with ah... sort of MEMORY... we've got ASYNCHRONOUS SPAWNING that we're getting CLOSER to have working PROPERLY

It's... it's... quite... COMPLICATED to get working because the game wasn't built... ah... it was just built to... create things on the main THREAD and it... it... so... you know people PROGRAM things assuming they can touch anything at any one time which you can't do when you're on, um... MULTIPLE THREADS ehm.

So... and it's SUCH a big codebase that it requires a lot to retrofit it and/or change things out, uh, REFACTOR them to be a NEW THING.

So all those will make like... so for instance if you PLAY and some AI spawn in there'll be a HITCH because they have to LOAD IN and there's a STALL on the main thread until things LOAD IN... but ah, LONG TERM that will go away because that will just sort of... they'll LOAD IN in the BACKGROUND when they're READY, the main thread will be NOTIFIED and BAM! They'll be TURNED ON so...

So wuh... so we're putting all these things in place and so I'm feeling really quite good about it, we've added ah... some NEW FEATURES like the SERVICE BEACON STUFF, ah... there's been a lot of the sort of UI IMPROVEMENT and POLISHES that I think people have noted and LITTLE THINGS like the, eh... you know... PROCEDURAL... GROUND... ah... so you know, sort of, ah...

...FOLLOWING, ah, you know... I've noticed quite a few people posting VIDEOS... I'm LIKING THAT, this is GOOD!

Aahh... and ah... we've tried to... ahm... work in, ah, some things to, ah... you know... IMPROVE ah, like INTERDICTION and stuff like that, ah... and... and... ah...

So GENERALLY it's going pretty well, this will be our first one and uh, we know we've gotta EARN the... the... the BELIEF or the TRUST of everyone ha-haha!

Uh, uhrr, uhmm... so you know we say we're doing QUARTERLIES we actually do QUARTERLIES, ehm, so... this one will be a GOOD STEP, the next one will be a GOOD STEP, ahm... but aahh... so it's GOING GOOD.

One of the reasons why we're doing this SHOW here is, ah... we... we've ah... you know... the best way to do this is as we've planned out a ROADMAP but obviously you just sort of check in where you're at, when you sort of get your RELEASE out, so like, OK...

THIS is what we're going to do for 3.2...
THIS is what we're going to do for 3.3...
...3.4...

All the THINGS that we want to... FIX or change that we didn't foresee when we first did this roadmap... ah, or you know, the things that we wanna address for QUALITY OF LIFE or things we could do in the game to make the gameplay right now feel BETTER... ah, because ultimately you know... I mean the AMOUNT of functionality in the game we have right now, if it all works together and works well, is more that a lot of released games.

I mean, you know... SEA OF THIEVES just came out and, you know, we have like MORE VARIETY OF MISSIONS, a HELL OF A LOT MORE SHIPS, a BUNCH MORE STUFF that you can do, and a LOT MORE AREA TO PLAY IN

But you know THEY spent a lot more time polishing some of their... their BASIC STUFF... I know people complain that they still want more FEATURES and that, cos gamers are generally like, 'I WANT MORE! I WANT MORE!' all the time... But I mean, we've been talking internally about, you know, Star Citizen is not a SPRINT it's a LONG... ha-haha! It's... It's... very... you know... it's more than a MARATHON you know, it's more like a WALK AROUND THE WORLD

That's right, ED has blackouts/redouts, complete with the temporary loss of control, but I guess the effects were considered annoying enough that the trigger values are too high to trigger it during regular flight. It stands in contrast to SC, where flying a small fighter makes the game look like it is being played on an old, black and white CRT monitor. I hope the g-force effects will be removed from SC completely. After all, having a pilot black out while a crewmember walks around is more immersion-breaking than just handwaving the lack of blackouts as gravity goo magic.

Engineers brought it back. My Viper regularly outs, and since 3.0 my FDL as well.

The bit at the end of the survey is interesting.
As mining will be the primary profession-based mechanic introduced in Alpha 3.2, we would like to know which of these three gameplay mechanics you would like to see implemented next. Your feedback will help us decide how to prioritize them for future releases in order to make room for these continued quality of life improvements.
- Salvage Systems: The ability to scavenge materials from wrecked ships you’ve destroyed yourself or discovered.
- Repair Systems: The ability to repair your own ship, or use a repair vessel to help others, either for free or for a contract fee.
- Refuel Systems: The ability to gather and transport fuel, with the options to sell it to other players, and use it to remotely refuel ships using associated technology.
So mining is definitely happening Soon(ish), and we can state our preference for Salvage, Repair or Refuelling as the next profession.

Repair could be interesting. Will it be the much-vaunted "changing a fuse" mechanic, or will there be a minigame to reprogram the main engine thrusters to allow for damage to the port-side fuel-feed? I recall something about EVA-ing to scrape down and patch damaged sections of hull too, although there will also be some sort of megaship to scoop up and repair smaller ships.

Not sure about salvage. Will that be recovering black boxes and other small items of value, or towing whole space-ship wrecks back to port? It would be great if you could build your own spaceship from the parts you salvage, but of course that's never going to happen. Refuel sounds trivial and easy to implement, so perhaps it will be the first to see the light of Stanton, regardless of the popular vote.

It sort of sounds like RSI is making some progress, which could be a double-edged sword, as backers find out more about what they're actually building (as opposed to the dream game that was marketed).

Quite unprofessional isn't it. They have a game, it's released and it hasn't taken $180 million of backer/pre-order money to get to this point.

Unprofessional doesn't even begin to cover it.

It's outright disgusting, not just because of what an absolutely ignorant and bald-faced lie the claim itself is, but because Chris doesn't even have the slightest shred of a leg to stand on as far as claiming that SC has anything at all. He has nothing. The game does not exist. It's a broken pile of rotten-to-the-core failed and incomplete designs from a bygone era, none of which stand up to even the most pathetic examples of Steam shovelware in terms of the thought that has gone into them. He has spent 7 years on copying or just outright stealing things that he think seem nice, without any understanding whatsoever of how, why, or what makes those things “nice.”

This is just some pure-strain mental-health issue bubbling right to the surface, and it's anyone's guess if it's pathological narcissism or mythomania or he's just gone off his rocker due to stress, but it is quite clear that he needs help. Someone with some kind of software development competence and experience needs to sift through this immense pile of detritus to see if there's anything salvageable left from Chris' years of mismanagement (chances of that are slim to none). Maybe Chris can find something more fitting to his level of experience and expertise — I'd suggest chicken farming, but I'm afraid PETA would hunt me down for suggesting something that would be so abusive to the poor chickens.

JFC, Chris. Step down already. It will be better for everyone involved.

Come on, this is just mental. This is just completely mental. The Sea of Thieves guys "spent more time polishing their basic stuff", but Star Citizen which has no basic stuff or gameplay somehow has more stuff to do and more area to do it in?

"Polishing basic stuff" is a very condescending way to say "make an actual game". Is this how Chris Roberts is selling his game now? By being condescending toward other game producers? He's a joke.

You know, Sea of Thieves is a massive stinky pile of donkey doo-doo. So to compare SC to Sea of Thieves, just shows you can't polish a turd.

There are tons of rubbish games out there, Steam is chock full of them. Is Chris Roberts going to take each one and compare SC to them or is he just singling out Sea of Thieves because it has a bit of a buzz around it atm?

Didn't he do something similar with No Man's Sky?

I know, right, you are bang on. Also, they do have one thing in common, Sea of Thieves is overpriced rubbish (50 GBP! For a barebones "game" with about 7 hours of content!).

He's singling out Sea of Thieves because it's perfect twitch fodder and thus stealing the spotlight whatever else was popular five minutes ago (i.e. not SC since it has never been popular, but Chris likes to think so). It's a lighthearted “let's aimlessly screw around together on a boat” sandbox where a solid set of base mechanics that allow for all kinds of silly hijinks to happen as players inevitably fail to coordinate.

It's not overly complex or epic or try-hard — it just does what it does, with a bit of jank and charm thrown in, and it makes for humorous watching. So of course he must attack it for its foul heresy of getting infinitely more things right than any game he has ever made, never mind that it probably won't be around for very long (but Chris lacks the insight into gaming to recognise this, so it remains high on his hallucinatory threat list).

In other news.....Epic Games have been busy showing off the capabilities on Unreal Engine 4 during GDC this week unveiling an Cool real-time ray Star Wars tech demo using NEW Nvidia’s RTX technology....by the time SC getting finished and ready to play(If ever)in many other new games this kind of tech will probably become standard....

This technology is nothing short of incredible, especially considering most of us have grown up with 8-bit sprites.

Seeing things like this it seems impossible to imagine that SC will be able to compete at all with the levels of graphics expected in 2023.

just tried 3.0.
can't even exit my room. Had about 1 fps, gone to options menu, the game crashed and had to disconnect.
I have an i5 3550, a GTX 1080 and 12Gb of ram.

Im new so I’ll give it a shot but I’m under the impression you’ll need higher cpu, SSD HD and more ram....the video card seems fine tho.

I won’t get to test anything until Tuesday but my plan is this:
i7 8700k
32 gig of pc24000 ram
samsung 1 tb 860 eco hd
asus rog gtx 1060 bid card 6gb version

i know i went low on the video card but i don’t have a 4K computer monitor so it seems odd to buy a1080 and all the 1070’s were sold out in the Asus rig hardware.
