High Capacity Railguns?

Has anyone experimented with high capacity rails yet?
Does it grant double the amount of shots per reload like it hints at?
What about with plasma slug (which now gets a heat reduction on railguns), does it drain twice the fuel on reload? Or does it double up on fuel consumption?
 
Yes you get 2 shots in the mag. Its not realy a big deal as you still have to charge the shot and reload is quick for regular rails. I dont know about plasma slug as i fly small ships with small tanks so its usless to me.

I have 3 G5 High Capacity Small Rails on my Chieftain - 1 Feedback Cascade, the other two Super penetrator. Having two rounds in the clip to fire is helpful, as is double the ammo. Also, those two specials also give a 40% heat reduction, which is why I opted for High Capacity instead of my original plan of going Sturdy.
 
Still running legacy Lightweights here, but the need for capacity is confusing to me.
It's easy to synthesize more ammo on the fly, the limiting factors seem to be just heat and power draw. Both completely resolved by just Lightweighting them.

Are there other advantages to the higher capacity mod?
Also, what happens if you do Synthesis with the bigger ammo reserve?
