Well, there has been fewer free play weekends to attract be players to try the game out.
And duplicate accounts tend to buy the package, so CIG made their money.

But yes....2 million accounts may be good, but that doesn't translate into 2 million players. Take away the dormant accounts, the duplicates and the freebies and you likely have a lot less

I would say about half or less - say...750K perhaps.

CIG probably used double-precision in a new innovative way, and ended up with twice as many than there actually are ;)

Is that their version of doublespeak?

Couldn't that have been managed by having clear design decisions and goals right from the start. Saying they need to be careful and take their time because they have allowed people to dream up all sorts of scenarios is CIG's fault, not the backers...

"We can't put gameplay into the game because that would make people expect too much from us" ??

Nice one. And people are still applauding.

The "Have joined the universe" is a lie. These are just forum accounts. They know they are lying and misleading people, but they keep on doing it.
Do you think they remove the Refundians? No, thought not.

I suspect they never remove anything from any counter, even the task force one, and they probably count external contractors in.

Well I just noticed my account ID number ingame when I opened the console in Arena Commander. I pledged during the anniversary sale last year and 1 month before that they reported 1.9 million.

I'd guess the number is around 50-100k lower than what they show on their site.

What was the minimum pledge amount? Even at £10 it adds up to an astronomical amount of money (no pun intended). They could have built a real space ship and given everyone a ride.

So, just reading the SoT thread and Tenaka pointed out the problem with ensuring people are online at the same time to crew up, and it got me thinking.

Imagine in a distant future, when SC is released.

Whale: Ok, another day on the farm. So number 1, where is my helmsman?

No.1: Ah, his kid is sick, can't get on at the moment.

Whale: Damn, ok, I guess Citizen xxxNoobifierxxx can take helm today. Where is he?

No.1: Think he said something about shopping.

Whale: Hell, where is my crew?

No.1: Well, JonesT is on vacation at the moment. HaloFan is having marital issues after his wife discovered how much he had put into the game. Finglelord is having to redownload the whole 1 Petabyte because his hard drive died, so he won't be on for a few days. As for the rest, no idea.

Whale: But i need crew to fly this thing! I AM THE CAPTAIN! I PAID FOR THIS!

*ALERT ALERT*

No.1: Looks like we are under attack captain. Its to the Goonrathi!

Whale: But we are at a station! We can't be attacked here!

No.1: Goons sir. They will always find a way. Anyway, its a nice ship sir, and i think you should go down with her. Toodle pip, i'm off to join the Goons!

Whale: Ok, let's populate crew with AIs.

--5mns later---

Whale: Why aren't we moving yet?

No.1: Err... Half phased out of the ship just after been summoned and 5 tried to kill me, boss. The only one remaining is doing his job from what I read on my screens

Whale: You bet! The sucker is actually mopping over my head on the command deck!

It's a common problem with MMOs. There is a reason WOW moved away from 40 man raids. Simply coordinating with that many players on a regular basis was unworkable. Conversely, I notice that CIG ocasionally talks about having crews of 80. I woudl anticipate 1000 man instances are more likely to occur than people having a crew of 80 PCs for their ship. And good luck trying to get something for all thsoe people to do. (yes - one offs would be possible. But even with casual dropins, 80 would be a challenge)

This is fun. WTFO calls for an Uber to pick him up for adventure.

Watch until 33m 30 ish. It's worth it I promise. [haha]

Interesting to note how his FPS counter turns red when it drops below 30.... and even stranger how it dissapears completely at times... i wonder if that is when it drops under 10 :p

Gods, the jerkiness is horrendous.

6 FPS... hell.

And the movement animations.... jeez, how can they make them worse than stock cryengine?

4 FPS....

"Looks like the PU is still unplayable"

Holy hells.... 6 years, 180 million dollars.

Can't get out the seat, awesome fidelity.

You know, it might be best for the streamers to stop streaming, they aren't helping the image of SC. Still, it allows those of us without access to see the actual state of the game and not rely on CIG marketing.
