His comment on Freelancer/wing commander is very interesting.

He suggests that SC is being designed to try to appease 2 sets of fans, and those fans have very different expectations.

Just one more genuine SC backer making many of the very same points a growing and significant group of us having been making since the day AC crash landed.

Another of those signs that reviewers lost patience with SC:
The Daily Grind: Has Star Citizen made enough money yet?

And the typical provocative comments by ED fans and upset replies by SC fanboys:

I read this as a pretty significant change of tone given massively's mantra-like stance to date. I even detect a hint of annoyance. Perhaps it's dawning on the author that all the new models and variants endlessly trotted out mean that every single ship he has bought to date is already, or will very soon be, obsolete.

This is just smugness...

50.000.000 $ REACHED TODAY!!!

50.000.000 $ REACHED TODAY!!!

50.000.000 $ REACHED TODAY!!!

(NOT ADVERTISING, NOT ADVERTISING, FACTS ONLY)

...

... just preparing myself mentally for the day all game magazines will be full of that number only ...

Quite sure it will give CIG another money boost up to 55.000.000 $ ...

But i hope that people will finally wake up and appreciate true genious over false promises and will have a look at ED! ;)

I just don't get it... All these ever increasing goals, making their target all the more difficult to hit? It's like they're trying to create an impossible job to complete!?

And at the end CIG will blame the backers:
"Wouldn't you guys have asked for so many features (by supporting more and more stretch goals with your money) we might have been able to finish the game long ago! How dare you to raise your voices now!"

ED is not for everyone, I backed the ED KS because I was familiar with the original game and showed the alpha to my flight sim/SC clan mates. Around ~20 of them bought it then too during the last couple of month. However, we all agree that the lack of support of clans, PvP and clan vs clan battles simply prevents it from making it THE game for our community, as we want to play and compete together.

I think FD and DB are scared about clans taking over the game like seen in EVE. And i completely agree with their approach. I prefer people playing solo, in small groups or chose the already existing different factions in the game. By doing so, FD has more possibilities to give player some storylines and assure that everyone will have fun in the game - which is nearly impossible in EVE if you are not part of a big clan.

Edit:
This said, i am sure we will see more and more PVP/group gameplay later on in ED.

Please, please someone show me a video of AC that looks fun.
Here another example of how a player ended completely frustrated because getting killed several times in that bizarre gameplay:
(First Look) Star Citizen- Capture The Core

Someone know a better example? One single?
Really would like to know how to learn to love AC - at least i would like to give it a second chance ...

Your defence is based on arguing that game development companies are because of <insert irrelevant techno babble here> exempt from delivering on the most basic and fundamental of promises used to solicit your backing.
No you forget that it is a collective as whole of backers that replacing a publisher. And that the majority of that collective the dev are committed on.
which is those master race of gamers who where into going for a niche hardcore small production indie game. Are bypassed by the more masses of gamers. The reason for that is Freelancer and wingcomander are big well known IP so it attract a lot more people. Which change the game.
I would blame it on the other backers. Which give not much about master race of space gamers. With attitude problem.
Consider I invite you as a lover of elegant menswear to back a kickstarter project for the production of a new line of dinner jackets. Having received the necessary backing it occurs to you that you can use the funding to go after the more lucrative womens lingerie market, meaning I have completely wasted my money while now you have chance to go after a more lucrative market off the back of the investment you have thus far received for a very different proposition.
Games are a branch of software engineering with a doses of creativity into the mix. So what comparison is this.
Does this have anything to do with the intricacies of tailoring? Does talk of the arcane inner workings of sewing machines have anything to do with this? Is this a reasonable and acceptable change of scope? Feel free to babble on about the uniqueness and mysteries of garment manufacturing all night long but the answers remain the same: No, No & No.
A b-mark sewing machine I would set against a small hobby gamemaker indie project. With no experience.
A A-Mark sewing machine I would set against a small sucsesfull Unity3D indie project. With experience dev.
A near Triple A funded game I would set into the building off the Dubai tower.
ED a medium to near large funded against a smaller but still large sky scraper.
Furthermore, the fact that men who privately like to wear ladies underwear will defend the betrayal using all manner of bogus arguments is irrelevant.
Well I give not about some spoiled master race of gamers who want it all there way. I play al those games those master pieces to extreme casual.
My preference is not so small banded.I am very open minded and a very broad taste of games.

I guess I going to play ED 2014 to 2015.
And when SC comes and miraculuous doesn't fail. It would make you'all look stupid if it sucseeds. I go play that to in 2016. And then deside which one to stick with ED or SC or both. On what is delivered.
And how different they really are.

There are people who explicit don't pre order so why pledge? they wait for the released thing. In the mean time going to play other games. If not the press release of cancelation. But a release. Then waiting for a few reviews of more professional objective people.

Normally I don't follow games in Alfa stage. When public beta is around and marketing machine get ignited. And the RC previews comes plenty of. Then I come around to check it out. And look out for the reviews.

And then there is No mans sky for PS4.
And Homeworld remastering.

Did I hear Wingcommander on origin? For Free?

For me its a good thing they Ed & SC might not come out in the same year.

The one that out first has the opportunity to bind lot of gamer to it for many years. That a big risk SC might take.

I heard DB making statements in that direction and, naturally, its his business decision to make.

However, for my flight sim/SC clan of ~250 ppl this means that ED can be rather a nice distraction for a few of us than a game that we can play and present ourselves in as a community.

So this might likely be the reason why lonewolf-oriented players might jump ship to ED, but the rest won't.

I see.
At least - if FD will really allow for bigger groups - i would like to see FD keeping the control about the game. It's ok to give groups some advantages compared to single players - which simply result by their numbers - but i would like to see things more balanced compared to EVE. For example if people are grouped in "clans" everyone in this group should be punished (in some percentage) if one of that clan is doing some violations/crimes. My point is, that group players shouldn't only profit in playing in a group but should also live with some drawbacks. If this is possible to balance than i am fine with having bigger clans.

Edit:
Also clans should then be part of one of the 3 factions and shouldn't be simply allowed to fight other clans of the same faction without consequences. Or you have to become a pirate clan. Only then can you do whatever you want. But of course this would mean that your clan will be chased by everyone else. ;)

I'd like to echo the point you make about scale, not just the 'majesty' of the scale of the universe as braben put it, and how it goes from the macro to the granular level, but also and in particular the scale of ships. For example some of the SC ships look way too small even for atmospheric craft, let alone the intersteller space ships they are meant to be, where to put it bluntly you'd expect the facility to at least empty your bladder at some point along the long haul journey. Meanwhile even the smallest of the elite craft looks appropriate for a mission of going from one star system to another. I'm guessing the choice to go cryengine and millions of polygon means there is a real pressure to reduce the size of every ship to the unfeasible leading to frigates in name only and fighter ships looking like short range orbital or atmospherics craft at best.

At that point I am even more extreme. To me a FTL drive would be not small.
The engine using a extreme efficient fuel engine solution that even more extreme then fission and fusion. Like anti matter. So these engine would be big. And also dictates design. A living boat would be like a small mother ship. And would be big. With a biosphere on it. Also with large part spinning for artificial gravity. So how would that look like.
Main thruster would be Fusion plasma or Fusion ION drive.

So as I want it even ED ships are very small. And like I said before in the way I would set it up there would be no dogfighting. and I would scrap MMO and online for realism.

But as with all Games Dev made a decision. And then is just the case is it a deal breaker or just a con point. Like every game has it pro and cons points.

A super cruise engine sound to me like a sub FTL warp drive. Still big. Bigger you go beyond FTL to. Much bigger it alternative to Jump drives.

Also with exploring you are far away from civilization and thus fully depending on your ship. This can be for years so expedition ships are super cruisers with extreme low dependence. I would even go that the should use such bigger exotic FTL drive.

So Impulse to sub FTL to FTL to galaxy class FTL engines.

In real life it is even possible to have a airplane on fission. But the practical risk is to high. And it would be big. No fighter. And can stay in the air for very long. That fuel efficiency. Is need for space traveling.

While fission drive in space like torch ships is option. Don't start your engine aiming at a colonized planet.

But that would bring to much constrains to the game design.

So small space craft well minor point but not big issue to me.

The problem with a 200+ clan in a 32v32 instanced game is practical and pretty obvious. You would never be able to have a coherent experience if you want to take the whole guild and do some activity. It would be like trying to find a friend in an MMO city that's heavily instanced and only ever seeing a few of them at a time.

I can't think of a way to have a non fragmented guild in a game format like that.

Not all the members are usually online at the same time, but let's say in average on prime time 20% are online. Then having a platoon of 50 players battling a hostile platoon of 50 would be nice. That should work within the parameters of SC as they are aiming for 100 player instance size.

Why does this guy try to be funny? It' horrible...
Here's a somewhat better video...

SC will have the same problem.
People think that they're going to have the same guild experience as you can have in EvE.

Good luck with that.

I agree. As it looks now, there will be no clans or guilds supported by ED at all. Hence, space sim fans who like to join social communities to chat, play, train and compete together have to look somewhere else; i.e., most likely SC will be a far better choice for those.

I'd be very interested in seeing how many original, early backers are REALLY enjoying the AC.
You know, the ones from 2012, golden ticket holders, hardcore space sim fans, etc...

I think those are pretty silent now.
