Couldn't bring myself to login

This. That's the exact process I think most people go through - work out how much your life is going to suck before you get to the fun stuff. Then figure out it's not worth it and go find something else to do with their time.

Could you provide some ideas as to what you'd like Frontier to add to the game to make it more engaging? That might be a bit more constructive. At this point we're not sure what part they weren't listening to?

I can relate, OP.

Sometimes i tell myself "oh ! let's do x or y things today in Elite", then i remember that i'll have to spend a good 30 min to jump -> getting the good ship -> getting the proper outfit and then only i'll be able to do what i want to do.

So in the end, i just play something else

What's the alternative? If you could instantly call any of your ships or modules to you from anywhere in the universe without a delay, or fit whatever module you wished without having to work for it, it would pretty much negate the need to make compromises.

Launched the game half an hour ago ago to participate in the new CG (Support a cz faction and deliver vouchers)

13 jumps to reach the destination, 700 ls to reach the planet, first cz didn't have the faction I had to support, jump out, the second one neither, jump out and same thing for the third. Halfway to the fourth cz site I closed the game and now I'm in Overwatch.

30 minutes down the toilet, yay, 10/10 would do it again.

I feel like too many people attempt to play games that weren't created with their demographic in mind.

If you don't have the time or mindset for a game like this, the answer isn't to stomp your feet and demand changes to cater to your demographic, the answer is to play a game where the game play elements are more in line with what YOU like.

Things now are way easier. Credits, reputation, engineers. Everything is faster than when I started almost 2 years ago. If its still not easy enough for you now, or still takes too much time? Move on to some other games. Clearly you aren't the intended audience.

Also, in a game like this, 30 hours game time does not allow a for a proper opinion. No matter how smart you think you are.

So ye - spent the whole week sitting at my computer.. and 'nearly' logging in to play Elite D.

ED is fine, but you do have a huge problem(thanks for sharing ;) )
If you, or anyone else, spends a whole week sitting at their computer then you need to see a doctor.
You can suffer a multitude of medical problems, not least of all blood clots, that could kill if it travels to your lungs.
Also you will put on lots of weight, which is not good for your heart.
Oh and your heart, you need exercise, so don't sit there for long times :)

I'm only playing my main account, now. The engineering has been done. So has the alt accounts. The alt account has been parked.

Mission running for a few tens of thousands are about the only choices for my gameplay style on the mission board. I stay legal. I will probably go mining, late tonight, as it is easier when I'm zoned.

As for going outside, it's about 40 degrees F, and raining like it did in Suffolk. Had the worst pizza in my life in Ipswich.

No, Frontier forbids you from having my stuff. :)

There are only fish sandwiches on sale, to console me.

Use the Marie Kondo decision method. Does Elite still spark joy? In my case it most definitely does. It's also been known to spark excitement, frustration, disbelief, puzzlement, anger, wonder, sleep (the supercruise snooze), surprise, confusion and rage among other things. Sometimes several in one session.

But always joy.

The day it doesn't will be the day I reluctantly move on. I sincerely hope it never comes, but everyone's threshold is different.

For every one burned out player, three new players will take their place.

Sometimes you just reach the end of the road with a video game. I pretty much have with GTA5 Online. Been there, done that so many times. Even with the new content, I can't motivate myself to launch that game anymore. But... I got years of fun out of it, so I'm not bitter one bit.

I just reached the end of the line with that game. Like I have with dozens of other games over the last several decades with this hobby.

Despite almost 3 full years with this game and total game time of "28W 4D 16H 50MIN", I have not reached that point with Elite Dangerous. When I start to feel bored with the usual routine, I switch it up and do something else. I can always find something fun to do it seems.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, taking breaks is good for you. I taken breaks from Elite multiple times, ranging from months to a year plus. I've done that with any game that I like but got a bit overdosed on - perfectly normal and natural and like many before have said, it'll be here waiting for you once you get that itch again.

You can't really expect to play the same game furiously enjoying it for year after year after year - all games have issues, all games get samey after a while, so...

You take a break - YAY - do other stuff. Have fun. And then one day you'll think, hey that game was good I wanna do that again and off you go - see on the forums in a year or so amigo and enjoy doing other stuff in the meantime!

Gotta say, I can certainly sympathise with the OP.

I've had quite a few times when I've logged in, realised I've had some drudgery ahead of me, posted on the forums for a couple of hours, watched a few video's on YT and then decided to go to bed without even lifting a wheel.

The sad truth is that this game feels so much like a boring and endless job in an office, ...

Hey, some people love the game for this. After my work (being busy a lot, physically and mentally exhausting too) I love the relaxant repetitive lull Elite is putting me into.. Far better then taking valium.

And this is only a tiny bit cynical (I don't take any medication and try to sport a healthy lifestyle mostly) this still has a lot of truth for me.

And no. U cant haz my stuffs ;-)

I don't need it. And you'll be back. Or maybe you can break the addiction??? Good luck!

Well, no, the only stats we get to see are the Steam stats and they suggest quite the opposite. Better to say for every 3x players that burn out there's maybe 2x new ones to replace them. Maybe. But I'd speculate further to say that the Steam numbers are mostly the hardcore player community who play almost daily, and that even their population is in a slow decline.

Speculate away. The only data we can really point at are the Steam numbers that show a gradual decline overall. This really shouldn't be surprising for a 3+ year old game.

Gotta say it's been a week since I logged on. Still check the forums daily though. I like be the game and want it to improve, but I feel the player base is too spread out among open, solo, and private groups.

Wish it was just one server type for all and that the servers could hold more people at once.

This is the general discussion room of Elite. The topic is allowed.

Sure, but it isnt very sensible. Do you have any idea how many games I didnt feel like playing today? Or how many albums I didnt chose to listen to? Any idea what a massive undertaking it would be to inform all devs/artists of these facts? Today I played a bit of Railroad Empire, and I played some piano. I didnt touch my guitars or synths, nor did I play ED.

So what?

Men no good at numbers, but doesnt slow decline normally mean numbers get like smaller? Average number of players for the last few months is about 50% higher than average. As in like bigger numbers. Peak players is up by about 100% the last few months. Such a decline, woe is us!

Do they suggest the game is growing at 2x as the other poster implied - saying 3x players replacing 1x player? Um, no. Check your math LOL. Also note the period from Jan 2018 to now = decline if one was to enlarge it which you probably won't; my point illustrated, thanks.

(Now gallop along to another thread that dares to say something less than positive!) :)

EDIT: here, let me help with a pic and explanation since you like Steam - enjoy!!:

- blue bars are the number of players, note the DECLINE
- orange line is the time per player, rising as the hard core players remain
- green line is the median which shows flat or possible slight decline

One more EDIT: in case it wasn't clear what a DECLINE versus INCREASE looked like, here's another game from 2015 that has INCREASED player activity - same period as the Elite stats but note the blue bars are rising:
