Anyone else think this is going to be a monumental let down?

The problem with this game is that it's coming out next to the new movie. We have enough games that were released next to a movie and were awful. Hopefully, this one is different.

Right...

I'm out. Last thing - if you cry "monumental letdown" after release, I will accept it as an opinion and will be fine with it.
Until then, I will try to reason with you and eventually ignore you...

I don't see how being negative about the game helps. Yeah there are issues with it. But from the interviews I have seen Frontier seems pretty dead set on doing the game their way, which they should it's their game. BIS said they are open to constructive criticism, which is good.

At the end of the day though it comes down to you either buying and playing the game or you don't. That is the brutal truth. I am not going to miss out on playing a Jurassic Park/World game cause of my issues with the lack of day and night cycles. This is the first JP game we have had in a while, a big AAA game from a good developer. I am definitely going to play it, I preordered it.

To miss out on this IMO would be a huge mistake, but everyone is free to do as they wish.

Okay, I feel like this thread is just going in circles now.

I understand you all have opinions and worries about the game, all i can say is its not out yet. I for one have a completely different opinion of games when i play it from when i watch information video's on it. From what i have seen so far the game looks great :)

Yes, they confirmed that not 100% of the islands is suitable for building. But the building area WILL be bigger on other island.
So it all boils down to the fact that you actually DO want to level the whole island. :D

who said anything about levelling the park? The final shot of JW with Rexy atop the helipad, that building looks built into the hill/mountain (call it what you will but they didn't level the terrain)

The JP3 aviary was essentially bolted onto the side of the mountain too

there are plenty of ways to build within the JP/JW environments without actually having to level land out. Yeah sure they've programmed it this way for now but I remember them saying their terrain tools were much more basic than the voxel tools used on P therefore maybe it'd be simpler to add in an auto cut into terrain where buildings may need it

maybe it won't and I'm talking nonsense and we won't see it and nothing will change. But I will get my Rexy onto that helipad one way or another

You got your point.

I keep thinking about this for days already - Since money is in our hands, should we hold on it tight and push as far as we can? Or should we take a leap of faith, pre-order it, giving them direct support of resources and hoping that they will do the right thing of satisfying their customers as far as they can?

For me, the problem is - this may be my first time doing business with Frontier, I just don't have the slightest idea on how trustworthy they are. $55 Bucks price tag is pretty high to me. I do feel like customers are supposed to have high expectation with it.

I don't see this as a problem at all. It's an island. How would you go about providing unlimited area?
Plus it adds an interesting challenge of managing available space properly.

(and on top of that, the tutorial island is tiny, reserve your judgement for once you've seen the other ones)

I don't want to be able to use up every available cm of space on an island. The issue is that it's fairly obvious that a fair chunk of each island cannot be built on.

That's going to be a massive disapointment once people realise this. It just gives a false impression of what is available in the end. As stated Simcity all over again.

This isn't being doom and gloom, it's being realistic, something which gamers don't seem to be able to manage these days. If there were more islands and / or the game was more reasonably priced, then it would be OK, sadly that's not the case.

It is kind of doom and gloom, actually, because you are judging the game based on lacking data.
Until I see how the building area limitations fit the gameplay Fdev prepared for us, I won't judge. Limited space can be a good thing, too, if the gameplay challenges it presents are fun.

Hold on.. Frontier themselves confirmed on the stream with MB that the park areas are limited. It's come straight from the devs mouth. I don't have any issues with limited space either but don't fool people into thinking that you have more space than you actually have. And as stated the cost of the game is not representative of what we appear to be actually getting at this point.

Oh and if have any doubts about me being overly doom or gloom about the game you should check my signature.
