Player Groups and Minor Factions - General Discussion

The phrase "the black list" is an innocuous term and the background story of the faction in no way referenced a tv show that btw was not sci fi based. Anne as I mentioned before, scores upon scores of npc are named directly after tv and movie characters. This appears to show just a glance over of the faction and find any reason to deny. I've spent hundreds of dollars here as a consumer, been patient without critical comments hoping upon hope that my group gets in. I can promise you this though, I won't spend one more cent in this game. I spent enough last year to fund their Damn Christmas party. I'll spend my money where it's appreciated.

Depending on where you are... Copyright Laws don't care about the subtleties between "The Black List" and "The Blacklist" to differentiate differences between intellectual properties.

Enough of a similarity is enough cause for some folk - and FDev choosing to err on the side of caution is reasonable considering some of the headaches it may incur.

I understand the point of considering copyrights and so on.

However he clearly stated he wasn't even aware of this TV show existing.

Yes, now I anticipate the argument, can hear it already

Ignorance is no excuse

but hey, what else do PMF applicants need to consider without any support given on selection of viable systems, transparency on applied criteria etc. etc. etc

So the new added meta criteria is we need to check that not any brands, trademarks, books, movies, names whatsoever (most likely only a few biilion possibilities to check) are violated as well???

This is so utmost ridiculous I'm really speechless.

A farce par excellence.

Before I applied I looked at the previous lists of accepted and rejected PMFs in the stickied threads - a pretty clear pattern of those sort of things being rejected I'm afraid.

Sry, but it's not that difficult to google a name... First result is the TV series.

So you did that? Google the name of your PMF name?
Checked that vocabulary of your PMF description doesn't violate trademark names, brands, TV series whatsoever?
This process requirement being detailed and explained where?

Apparently we have an absolutely different understanding about user-friendly processes and customer-friendly / customer-oriented user management.

With so many people around defending and justifiying even the worst and cynical client management - may I remind that the users being not aware of the criteria they will be measured against MONTHS LATER - and willing to swallow even the most bitter pill with a smile saying - hey, FDev, everything fine, I'm a happy customer, please go ahead at your own pace...
Never ever anything will change.

Screw your customers and they even will kiss your ...

Well done and thanks for the support.

Over and out.

I hardly think having a meltdown over someone putting a major TV show as their PMF name is going to change much either.

Plenty of legitimate sticks to beat FD with over this whole process (I've also been waiting since last August) without making flimsy ones to have a swipe with.

Imho.

Van, i know you said you have emailed and PM's Brett, but have you tried to reach him on Discord?

I know you are probably seething but hang in there, I'm sure its an admin error and they can sort it.

- EDIT -

Brett C any chance of an update on the pending factions and the next phase after the initial rejections?

This thread is the only outlet we have to communicate with FDev and each other on our PMFs. As erratic as communication may be sometimes, it’s still our only hotline.
I’d like to keep it that way.
I’m frustrated, you’re frustrated; our teammates are frustrated too.
Having a go at the CM team will get us nothing except this thread locked down.
Please all, don’t give them an excuse to lock us out of the conversation.

Look I’m new around here and don’t have a dog in this fight. To be honest, I’m not all that concerned about our submission considering how this has all shaken out over the last 6? months. But I do question when anyone was ever truly a part of the conversation? FDev didn’t even have a response or appear to be working on this until a few prominent YouTubers made videos addressing the situation. I would argue considering the response that Van has gotten that we have already been locked out.

So, as a quick update, our Elite Dangerous Dev team for the better part of today and tomorrow are/have-been in the process of moving to the new building. So unfortunate to say, slight delay.

Van R Flyheight, I will review what may have happened on the sheet. Will attempt to get it resolved before our team pushes the changes to our local servers for QA to further test.

Hi Brett,

Any update regarding player groups submissions?
We submitted the form back in early January and we're not totally sure what's the next step's supposed to be.

What a crock of . You accepted our group name as The Black List but won't accept it as a PMF!? Because some generic tv show that no one watches is named that too!? Geez...all this wait for nothing. See ya....no more of this game for me. What a load of horse manure.

A player group is in internal reference for a group of players and is not the same as a public inclusion into the game.

There is more risk of trademark issues and lawsuits with PMFs in-game than a fan-group reference behind the scenes.

This is correct. A player group name is internal to us at Frontier and the group. A player minor faction name is what is visible to the world.

I'm sorry that it was rejected, but we err on the safe side of naming conventions.

Brett, please consider also providing us with answers, concerning the rejection of Leviathan Scout Regiment.
Your justification for the denial does not make sense to us. We would like to appeal the decision or at worse, be given a clear reason for our rejection, so that we can modify our plans and work towards future inclusion. Thank you.

Just did a review of the application, and this one appears to be rejected by error. A previous application in 2017 (which was marked as approved but never added [as far as i can see] for some reason) caused the error.

I have revoked the previous item denoting Approved, and have placed the newest addition into its place for addition on the next batch addition. Looking to be 3.1 or so.
