I dont get why everyone thinks Ellite is such a grind

Well grind or not (it's all in the mind) I am glad ED takes time/work, otherwise I'd have run out of things to do on those long cold and dark winter evenings.

Classic Stigbob. "It's not a grind because I didn't want to do it anyway."

You're always good for a laugh, Stig. Thanks. [haha]

Exactly. He has decided not to engage in an optional grind to get modules that are not necessary. Nice to have but not needed to engage in any of the gameplay available.

I've said this before and I will say it again. I think people are so indoctrinated into the grind mechanic from previous games that they cannot get out of that mindset.

They see something that is available and go out to get it in the easiest and fastest way possible. Even if FDev add a whole heap of variation people will just search for the easiest and quickest way to get what they want.

I am not defending the mechanic and think it's bad and it needs to change before anyone starts making assumptions.

5 engineers unlocked and mostly grade 5 in less then 3 hours of playing time just last night. It was just so hard to do. Again. In game time. It didn’t matter if a week of real time went by or I put that hours in all at once. The work got done in the same amount of game time. All the while playing on two accounts at once. I do have to update my Xbox profile. I made like 50 million on that account yesterday. All within the same three hours.

Maybe if you guys spent less time complaining about the grind and put that time into playing the game you wouldn’t need to grind as much.

No worries.

I find people repeatedly doing the same thing in a way they don't enjoy supposedly for entertainment while telling me how much they don't like it hilarious on a number of different levels. ED and the forum happily cater to both playstyles :D[up].

In the past 6hrs ive gone from Lieutenant commander to 10% from Rear Admiral. I dont know how many times i have to repeat myself but its not the grind itself that bugs me, its how blatant it is and how often its mindnumbingly boring because stuff just happens with or without my input. Because the only thing this game really tests is patience and willpower.

My missions logs on my inara PC will show that it wasn’t repeative at all. I am purposely doing all mission types. Planetary scan jobs, assassin missions, some exploring some planetary base hopping. You can watch the logs and see when you think it actually gets repetitive.

Well you can prove anything with facts.

Then don't get a corvette. It's up to you. I only play 2-6 hours a week so I want to enjoy my game time.

It has taken me nearly three years to get my python, but that is fine because I have had a great time getting it.

The choice is yours.

So what you're saying is, "the grind isn't real if you don't want a corvette"? The OP has blinders on, I'm trying to get him to take them off.

The grind is in your head.

Grind is real, the devs even admit to using it in elite, they then when on to explain how grind is 'necessary' in a game. You just happen to like the grind, that's okay, some people do, but don't insult me by saying it doesn't exist.

telling me the grind is unavoidable.
Strawman much?

Never grinded anything for this ship.... ....the general statement is obviously wrong.
Let me repeat myself.

No that is not I have said. Why would you come to that conclusion?

You can still get a corvette. It's so about how fast you want it. You want it asap you will have to grind for it. The choice is yours.

The fact is, it continues to be a pointless and fruitless debate. If you don't find things in the game to be a grind, fine, whatever, good for you. Things still need improving though don't they? There could be more depth and more variety? End result is the same, we all pretty much want more of what we like and less of what we don't. The 'No it isn't, yes it is' arguments aren't really getting us any further toward anything worthwhile are they, just turning the forum into an 'actually meme'. May as well throw discussions about grind into the politics and religion section since the wheels spin in that same direction.

The line you just quoted is from Stewart Lee's standup it's about arguing with people who have fixed notions.

Probably has swearing in it.

Good for you, DR. Now, re-name your ship "Plz No Gank" and take it to the current cg in Open and see how long it lasts against someone who has access to all of them and has every module their ship contains maxed to the highest level.

I'm not buying the 3 hours for all that, either.

Yes. I think we can all agree that stuff needs improving. Especially the personal narrative thing which is probably my biggest disappointment yet.

Turns out those were just buzz words that meant business as usual, didn't it? Glad we can agree on something. [up]

All of my logs are updated as I make a jump or land at a station. The times speak for themselves. I even taught two people to do this and one is buying a Cutter after one day. (Yes, he already had some imp rank). Keep complaining, though. I’ll keep adding to my logs. Sorry you don’t know how but I’ll offer again to everyone...I’ll show you how or, you can just check my logs. All missions completed and times are 100% accurate and up to date.

Edit: oh and I would like to add that PVP is a very small part of this game. Most people don’t even consider having a maxed outPVP ship as anything in relation to completion of Elite. The very ranking system hasn’t got a damn thing to even do with it. So yeah. You can take your one playstyle(PvP) and I’ll call and raise you with the other thousands of things to do. One play sytle reps doing well. Haha. I appreciate the laugh. I do wonder what everyone’s excuse will be once I’m max rank on everything in under 6 months of in game playing time. And I’ll be sure to share those PvP videos once I have all engineers unlocked. Because 5 engineers unlocked isn’t all 15 like this guy thinks.

Rather than labeling it a "grind", I prefer to think of it as doing the same things over and over again until I get what I want.

Under that definition I did not grind. Please check my mission logs on inara. Very little repetiveness. I know this will not go in forever because there is only like 30-40 mission types but still not repetitive as of now. I think a lot of people are just too ready to call bull but can’t even look at the facts. They couldn’t be more apparent if it was slapping you in the face. But still...everyone cry’s foul.

Oh stop. I'm a triple Elite player with so much PvE accomplishment that one would have to wonder if I have a real life outside the game. I've got a bazzilion hours playing this game, too, all the engineers unlocked and leveled to g5 loooong before 3.0 eased the burden, and getting proficient in PvP from both a skill standpoint as well as an engineering standpoint is where most of the grind comes from. All the stuff you hold up triumphantly as proof you know what you're talking about is small potatoes; I doubt if you can stand up to even the lowliest Expert ranked San Tu intern in PvP, and if that's true, then you've barely glimpsed the horizon much less traveled over it.

You want to impress me? Prove you know what you're talking about besides grabbing the lowest of the low hanging fruit. Go to San Tu and ask for a fight with the first Competent pilot you see, and if you don't get your rear kicked up around your ears then maybe I'll take you seriously:)

I would rather declare ignorance about a subject, then defend that ignorance against all comers as if it were wisdom, but it seems that base has already been covered.

Thus I must instead resign myself to the absurd proposition that opinions vary, that perhaps mine carries no more weight than anyone else's, and that other opinions may not necessarily be wrong simply because they differ from mine.

Pity me.
