ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Well finally got mine.
Found the usb3 port on the back don't work. Changed them over.
Rift screen ok but camera waiting for reply (lights for a short time then off after startup), think its Logitech thing from the support pages but I have only got a wireless keyboard so unhooking that is not an option at the moment.

Ah well didn't even get to see the demo....scuppered first at first hurdle. :(

I find sometimes the throttle on my thrustmaster warthog doesn't register in game with the rift, I have switch to desktop and then back into game and then its fine. So yes, I do believe it is flakey with certain peripherals.

Easiest way is to hit ctrl f then F10 to take a screenshot. Ctrl F works but puts the counter in the top left outside your field of view!

Playclaw 5 is a great program to use because you can monitor FPS , GPU and CPU performance. You can also move them into a position on screen where they can be monitored in the rift :)

Hey do we have any idea when they will patch the game so that dk2 plays with the OR software running? I feel like tweaking the eye separation would benefit me.

Any new info on when they might get the game working with none SSE4.1 CPU's? Would be fine if they could just get the game working with Oculus own tracking, as that can be emulated.

Not sure what one of those is but have you tried the tool mentioned on the first page that closes down all of the services? There is a checkbox on there to enable SSE fix

This would work if E : D would use Oculus SDK 0.4; but at this time E : D still uses SDK 0.3... I'm looking for this update daily. If just the F12 would work...

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. But the SSE fix in that utility only emulates SSE4.1 for the Oculus 0.4 SDK head tracking runtime. Elite Dangerous uses its own head tracking because its using an older SDK. Still using that utility is much easier than emulating SSE4.1 manually so it makes things easier when I run other games and demos so thanks for the link.

Just hope Frontier either modify their launcher to allow us to run its head tracking runtime in emulated mode or update to the newest oculus SDK soon so I can get the full experience of Elite Dangerous.

I can reset the rift in game with Ctrl-F12.
If I run the whole game through the SSE emulator F12 and CTRL+F12 works too. But the FPS drop to 15 and this is not very good in Rift. I found if I stop all the services with the tool and cover up the tracking camera it works without positional tracking. But the drift gets really bad after just 20 to 30 minutes. But with F12 (and I tried to assign this to joystick too) not working I have to restart to game to recenter. But it is worth it because it is just great experience.
PS: I did create a ticket and the status changed to under investigation.
PPS: I wonder if Frontier developers have their DK2 already, because if not that has to happen first...

I get the feeling developers are finding it more difficult than they anticipated to update from DK1 to DK2.

Elite: Dangerous is a full size game but I expected all the tiny DK1 games/tech demoes to update within a couple of days to DK2 but that hasn't been the case yet for the vast majority of them.

Hopefully we'll see both Oculus and Frontier get everything updated and patched in the next couple of weeks!

...although even right now its the best game experience ever IMO! :D
