It's raining guardian mats, I haven't even started faffing with the data thingy yet and I've most of what I want just while driving around going "ooooh". I suggest only going to structures on the darkside for added atmos.
The issue is the blueprint fragements. You only get one per scan and then you have to log out then log back in.

Never mind, there's plenty of sites for me to visit (thanks cannon) I haven't finished gawping at this one yet. I only need eight of them for the plasma chargers anyway.
I don’t find Elite to be a grind, but these guardian sites are a complete bore after you do your fourth or fifth one. The puzzle is exactly the same each time. The only difference between the sites is the layout and whether you get a blueprint segment or a module segment, and was not interesting enough to go back to.
Maybe we’re asking for too much content too fast, or FDev are feeling the pressure to get stuff out quickly, but with more time they could have just made 26 or so (however many total segments are needed) unique sites to visit instead. Kind of like the 120 shrines in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. They’re all small little areas but unique and challenging.

Yes but the people in this thread said I was wrong for giving 18 as the total number after I unlocked one of the 18, they think only the 8 blueprints that require guardian mats and data count anymore.
Its entirely possible they only said that to dismiss the unlock I was talking about having done, however I intend to now run with their new revised numbers.
Your still not understanding man
The 18 number came about because its the amount of weapon BP fragments you needed for set of guardian weapons.
Lets take plasma charger and gauss cannon on their own for the moment.
Gauss cannon require 4 x weapon BP fragment, plasma charger requires x 8. This means you need to repeat the same puzzle 12 times to get the required number of BP fragments for these two weapons. Add in the rest of the needed BP fragments for the other modules and you have a serious amount of repitition.
This doesnt even take into account the types of obelisk scan data you need ie Alpha,Beta,Delta,Epsilon and Gamma for the modules as well as the module BP fragments.
Try unlocking the guardian power plant, the BP fragment and obelisk data requirements are just depressing.
If the objective is content vs. time would it not be best to do one site extremely well vs. 26 poorly done or rushed sites? Jumping around between sites is no more inspired gameplay nor is it valuing player time than repeated playthroughs of the same site. Make a more complex and atmospheric experience you do once instead of the repeated puzzle 26 other locations and the value of the player experience goes up. You get more "wow that was incredible" instead of "time to re-do this all over again".
Thanks whoever suggested keeping your ship close by with point defenses in the top mount, they clear out the guardian missiles really well.
That might have been me. I certainly posted about it somewhere.
I discovered it by accident whilst running away and wondering where the hell all the green tracer was coming from![]()
I know it's swimming against the current but I'm enjoying this guardian business, I might even unlock some more.
It all depends on how well designed it is. If you can make 26 short but super fun sites to do is that any better or worse than just one giant one of the same quality?
Edit: Just to be clear, my example supposes that the 20 or so sites are not copy and pasted mechanics like we have now, but each containing their own unique challenges to unlock whatever rewards there are.
And 20 is arbitrary. It could just be 1, 4, 15 or 100. The point is that they could have been designed to be more engaging and challenging.
Chuckle. You do like poking the bear.
