PvP The PvP Subforum's Purpose

I'll just say, coming to the PvP subforum to whine about C&P, "griefers", gankers, open play etc while constantly ignoring everyone's suggestions/advice and giving a stream of reasons why you can't improve your game is just a dumb concept.

The PvP community is known for being quite rowdy, yet without a doubt the most helpful and tight-knit of them all. If anyone asks for help with builds, survival advice, wingmates to practice with, or anything similar, there will always be a good number of helpful responses.
If someone is salty straight off the bat and continues to be that way (like a lot of the posts in this subforum), PvPers will laugh and just farm them for their salt. That's just the way this community works.

This. I have yet to see a thread wherein an OP, even one who is initially salty AF, hasn't been offered a crap ton of good advice upon asking for it and displaying a willingness to learn.

The threads that go down the drain are the ones where the OP simply can't let go of their anger... it's like feeding the sharks and expecting them not to frenzy.

We could have a special sub for rants of all kinds - could be called "The Saltmine"

Old BBS I used to visit (you know, the pre-internet days), had Mud Wrestling. Forum threads that exploded, got dumped there...but, denizens not only expected Forum PVP, but raised it to artform levels...for trolls, by trolls! LOL!

People talking about griefer complaint threads being moved here all the time, but if you check the threads on the front page, there aren't that many of those. The majority of threads are about PvP related stuff.

edit: just checked, there are 4 threads with a negative attitude. (out of 25)

But are you not asking to have your play style protected from the PvEers?

Its all grist for the mill as it were.

The idea that a public forum is not going to have possible conflicts is a Utopian dream, while we all know we live in a dystopia.

If the subject is about PvP (over all) it comes here. Modes is only tangentially connected to PvP/PvE. If you want a safe space to discuss your PvP only ideas and lock away anyone who disagrees, set up a discord or your own forum, this one is for all ED players.

We're looking to have a more productive and friendly PvP Forum. Nothing more, nothing less.

Seconded.

Moderator selection is not vote by community. We have a internal means on when it comes to selecting moderators for our forums.

Some of the users that we had on our list got blown out the window due to...
1) moderation history, be it infractions or bans,
2) post content,
3) cannot be trusted,
4) part of a clique of users, having bias.

Which is why I've had a difficult time finding users suitable for the role, especially as a moderator for this forum.

Basically its hard for Brett to find a dedicated PvPer who can be trusted with mod powah. There are some mods who do PvP as and when, and not sure if Olivka is still a mod, but they were heavily into PvP, but their English isn't really up to the job of being a general mod.

Well if your guys' Kliq full of "PVEers" That effect other player groups. Can bombard any movement towards the open private solo conversation between you and maynard leading the charge, with your back up group jockey ziggy and mouse.

I cant possibly see what the poor excuses would be not to let rinzler be mod.

I do think that proponents of PvP are treated more harshly (yes, by the mods) than those who oppose it.

To give credit where it is due, in three years of playing exclusively PvP [subject to engineering], and three years of posting exclusively about PvP [subject to engineering], including not just about game mechanics but also my merciless Powerplay slaughter of those pledged to non-Federal Powers, and including both before and after two years ago when I left my player group [Adle's Armada] to become Independent, I have had yet to encounter the slightest difficulty with Frontier Forum moderation of any kind.

Could that be because you haven't broken the forum rules?

Or am I being silly now? :)

But griefing, ganking etc. is very much PVP. Every time I tried to argue that attacking an unarmed ship is not PVP, every single PVP player I discussed the given topic with was trying to convince me that it is still PVP. So isn't it a bit hypocritical to have double standards and perceive ganking as PVP in the gameplay context, but not-PVP in forums context? :p

I think you found partial root cause of the problem.

Moderators are not a "PVE" clique. I for one don't care for PVE or PVP. I just play the game and couldn't care less whether someone puts themselves in a drawer labelled "PVE" or "PVP". Same thing with the forums. I come here to discuss the game and I regardless of who I am talking to, I always just express my opinion. So it happens that most of the times it at a difference with players that enjoy PVP.

Also, maybe if everyone stopped labelling other people, which is a disgusting feat, things would get better?

Would love to. Except ive seen this stuff happen first hand? And not only seen it. Effected by it.

At any rate there is an established kliq here. Almost any pvper thats came to these forums asking for change were met with those same people.

A bingo card exists for Christs sake.

I think the correct expression is "established cliques" (as in plural). Please don't tell me you think that all PVP players are innocent carebears when it comes to forums PVP? ;)
