Am I right in thinking you had to back the kickstarter to have "Jameson" feature in your CMDR name?

I'm on PC. At one point I reset one of my game saves and successfully renamed my CMDR to "Gordon Jameson". Flew all the way out to Sagittarius A* and then ... reset the game save again because I felt a little guilty in light of those who paid real money for the privilege. This was over a year ago and I'm not sure if this was working as intended or was a bug.
Maybe the Kickstarter just allowed you to reserve a Jameson name and didn't preclude others from choosing one if it was still available later?

I should point out that the name "Jameson" with no first name is already taken on Xbox. I looked him up last night.
So I will have to add a first name. In any case, there is absolutely nothing stopping me from becoming a CMDR Jameson.

The £1500, was for chosen forename, followed by Jameson surname, and then only a limited number.

More to the point, FD has no say over Xbox Gamertags.
As long as my GT follows Microsoft ToS, there's nothing anyone can do.
And seeing as my name does not breach Microsoft ToS...
