Dead and lonely Universe!

EliteD seems to be slightly suffering some criticism due to peoples expectations when they see "MMO".

Even with the coming (soon?) improvements to communications, we are never going to see the kind of social interaction that we do in the more common MMO games.

I think this is could cause a problem with people not entirely understanding what they are getting when they buy the game.

I guess its hard to marry the want of having a whole universe to spread out into with the expectations of multiplayer MMO gameplay.

I wouldn't be so sure about that - regional/station/faction chat channels will bring much more social interactions between players, and as soon as guilds/Corps are in larger group play and communications will be possible, etc etc

There are many possibilities to bring the MMO experience to Elite, it will come and it must come, because without more social elements the game will not succeed in today's market.

If you think MMO social elements are not coming to Elite or are not necessary for it's long term success you are in for a shock. Online games require these types of interactions to succeed in today's world no matter what the price, MMO interactions will be added.

I see ur new to ED, welcome. Im afraid ur committing the same error as many other newbs who are looking for a finished, polished, multi player extravaganza....so ill remind you that ur testing a Beta, and no the multiplayer just like the rest of the game.. Is. Not finished.

It's absolutely not true that I expect a perfect game. Additionally I'm not complaining about the game itself. It's more the ignorance which I wanted to DISCUSS.

The only problem I have is with not being able to communicate with someone you can't target.

The ability to communicate with anyone you have recently targeted, and voice comms with recently targeted people who are in the same system would be nice.

Plus, easily being able to communicate with anyone who has recently communicated with you.

Also when someone communicates with you, you should be able to track where that person is while they remain within 200 ls (Or some other set distance).

That's the stuff I intended to be discussed here. Great aspects and ideas...

No regional or faction chat channels, there's no factions to talk about (please educate yourself about reputation system).

There might be station channels or opt-in broadcast channels.

More/easier/clearer/free-er social interaction please!

. . . Also, I'd like to see some form of broadcasted chat, like zone-chat in WoW. Much more possibilities for random chit chat that way, than hailing individual players.

Yep!, Zone chat, Universe chat, Galaxy chat or System chat would be awesome as you could get some feeling of things happening around you in the game and maybe even a heads-up about some event occurring somewhere in the universe that you may want to join in on.
Or you could just kick back and chat away to someone in game while you go about your regular trades trying to collect enough credits for that thing you've been trying to get enough credits for aaaages for!

I know this won't be a popular idea and probably not helpful to gameplay anyway, but I think it would be cool to limit real time in game comms to the immediate area. Light speed delay. Ships would be the fastest means of communication outside a few light seconds distant.

Look at this official beta trailer released by FD, please:

Players (especially PvPers) who want true MMO experience are disappointed because of such misleading publicity.

Sorry?

I was watching the video very carefully... I didn't see or hear a single mention of PvP, griefing, murdering or any other 'thing like that.

Oh... you don't mean being a 'pirate' do you?

This would of course be the your (wrong) definition of being a pirate which is basically, when you get down to it... just being a player killer isn't it.

Perhaps you should take this video as a reply to yours...

Maybe because when they see the acronym MMO they immediately think PvP and PK.

I'm afraid that they are just going to have to expand their book of definitions.

DBOBE has said time and time again that this will be predominately a PvE game and that they will be discouraging griefing and player-killing.

The Galaxy is huge... it isn't surprising that the majority of people you will meet will be NPCs.
