The ref decides when you can kick off, and you are not allowed to be on your opponents half during kick-off. The ref didn't give the go ahead, so it was a bit of a farce. He could warn the Croats if they were wasting time, but this was silly. You score a goal in the semi final of the world cup: you can celebrate a bit.

It doesnt matter if you lose against france in the semi-final or final, at best it would have resulted in a 2nd rather than 3rd place. But yeah, currently Belgium is just more mature than the English squad. To be honest, England came quite far but never really impressed much against teams that provided any kind of resistance...

It's true. The youngest side that played in Russia I believe though and at least they play like a team.

You'd be amazed what a relief that is. The UK Premier league is such big business, the FA I think always thought it best to get the biggest English star names in each postion, when other star names vanished from Manchester United to play for home countries, every 4 years and expect it to go well. Surprise, ego gets in the way and it didn't work. This team has been built on a different method (the team knows each other from playing junior) and I think look more like a bunch of mates, a team, than I've ever seen them. Several new stars, OK some weakness to fill in midfield but got further than we thought they would. So maybe they didn't 'impress', in so far as they didn't become World Champions .. but that's not to say they (Trippier?) didn't impress.

(Oh .. and if that video is meant to tell me Croatia have never - in their life? - tried to steal a decision, play edgewise or just attack attack attack, then those old one leg ducks do not swim in circles! [up])

Pickford, Maguire, Trippier and Loftus-Cheek had a good tournament and Harry Kane had a great group stage, all of them showing they can shine at the top level.

Young, Alli, and especially Jones and Vardy needed to do much more. I think of them all Alli should improve much, the others won't be there next time around. Everyone else were "good enough". But put them up against talent and they fell short of fifth gear. They will learn from this, and slay all in front of them come Euro 2020.

Except Wales, who will win it.

Obviously.

And speaking of 'stars' i was watching the England vs Croatia match and could have swarn that Croatia have something like 4 stars above their national badge!! This is not WC win stars but what? And why placed where other teams have their WC stars? Or have Croatia won the WC 4 previous times and it is just my ignorance talking :)

I'm torn on the final really. I think France can play the most exciting football (if they want to) BUT what a story it would be for a smallish nation like Croatia! So i'll just sit back and enjoy it as a pure neutral and hope for a good exciting match.

Some of their shirts have five pieces of a 'crown' on top of the logo. Its their coat of arms. It signifies five historical regions of Croatia, and its kinda important to them for obvious reasons. ;)

In fact the Uruguay team won twice the World Cup in 1930 and in 1950.

Before the World Cup, there was the Olympic Games (The World Cup did not exist). And the Celeste won twice the gold medal, in 1924 and in 1928.

But these two medals are referenced as FIFA awards.

Agreed. The ref falling for Griezmann's dive early on (resulted in 1-0 for France) was bad enough, could watch the game only intemittedly since then. :(

The penalty was dubious as well, and against the VAR usage rules. A shame really, Croatia should have led with at least 1-0 during half time, and that would have changed a lot...

Well done France, two good goals. Shame Croatia weren't allowed to take it to extra time.

Case in point that even with VAR, football referees are still ****

Definitely not to say France were lucky, on the goals, though Croatia really were .. I think very unlucky.

Feel the need to congratulate Cmdr Patrick_68000 (Double Elite) and France then, first World Cup winners since inception of Elite Dangerous (December 2014). Maybe when he comes back from his naked street run but well done, congratulations to Harry Kane on winning the golden boot and spasibo Russia for hosting. Really enjoyed the whole tournament.
