Just to throw something here about the tech that is currently available to us and in commercial use:

Very educating.
"Great minds think alike, small minds rarely differ" as the whole phrase goes ;-)
Jump-gates with side effect would be cool too, kinda like the DS9 wormhole. I again respectfully disagree on the whole concept of taking away freedom with handwaviums like radiation preventing it's use for [insert timer here]. There's enough of that "mechanics" in game already. I am sure commanders in Colonia appreciate the fact that it takes only adamant griefers to bother to go there (if even), but it is not a reason to keep the QoL from the rest that wishes to use it, IMHO. Also, a timer operating in months as units... nooo, sorry, that's just bad design in video games. A week seems like an eternity tbh.
And on the whole "flying the ship thing". You fly on approach to station, you fly in supercruise (though that's arguable, too), and you fly when you go planetside or dogfight. Hyperjumping is to flying like riding a kick scooter to mountain biking. It's just atrocious. Sorry I can't stand it, it's really mindless repetition which is best done by automatons. Give me something to do at least. No, not exploring, I'm travelling. I will explore when I get to my destination. Though TBH if we get landable planets and base-building capacity someday, it just might change into a "trek among the stars" someday. As for now there is little to no incentive to go anywhere far to "explore", because there's nothing there to our current knowledge.
As for set a course and log-off, this still takes time. And, if you wish, you can stay online and honk along the way if you're so inclined, abort the AP when you see something interesting. There's nothing stopping you from doing that. The problem is as described - nothing more to do. No remote trading, fleet management, not even planning engineering your ships. Unless of course you use pen and paper mechanics. And no, I cannot even take a stroll in my ship to just marvel in the sights from a different point of view. Yeah we have the camera suite but this isn't that... The immersion factor jumps out of the window if you can stand near said window on an anaconda observation deck. Those are little things, that I found very cool in Scam Citizen. Hope it releases in 2027 ;-)
Cut the personal remarks and I might continue discussing with you.

that is fine..... not much point having discussion forums if we all agree with everything
I would take the jump game, and write it into the lore.... because there is gameplay potential there..... with missions to continually upkeep the gates, as well as onces to try to damage them, or small possibility of miss jumps which dump us randomly somewhere between the 2 if the gates are in less than tip top condition (so best have a fuel scoop when using just in case)
far better than select destination then log out and go to bed (imo)
To stop people using it all the time they could even write in to the lore that the pilots get a wacking great dose of radiation doing it, and that continual exposure will cause harm, so medically we have to wait X number of months before using it again.

The problem is you are so narrow minded. It funny. I'm looking at current bots. If autopilot added People who controls bots has one less thing they have to worry about and they can work on other parts of the bot programs. But you don't see this as a issue.
