Careful when taking DB's words literally.
He likely took total Player count/Copies sold as a reference and would still be "correct". He didn't use the term "active Players".
He's like that.. He talks and he doesn't lie. Not directly. Ever. "Careful guidance of perception" is what possibly describes it best and he's very good at that.
One of the reasons I'm convinced he's a very good businessman.
So basically you are saying he isn't telling truth you suspect is truth - that active player numbers are low.

Otherwise I don't see point of your post. Why he would have to tell not truth about game's player base activity? What he is to gain? Do you suggest that there are thousands of people play ED just because it is popular?
Unlike the doomsayers he hasn't lied once a week since 2014, so I'm happy to believe his words at face value.

Personally I dont really care if ED succeeds or fails...it used to bother me greatly, but such naive thoughts vanished a long time ago. Nowadays, Im doing exactly what I said I would do and Im waiting till Q4...how good that update will be will decide whether this game fails or succeeds...in my mind. I dont really care if others look beyond Q4...cos Im not looking past that. Either it delivers or it doesnt...there is no third option.
Not overly concerned between now and then...I found other distractions to amuse meself with while I wait, so Im not spamming this forum with salty tears. Its a pointless excercise anyway what with the rash of white knights and fanbois who jump on anyone who doesnt agree with every word that comes outta that hole under their nose. Like hotel california, its become more of an amusing distraction than an actual discussion and quite frankly, I just stopped caring about who is right and wrong because neither side has any influence on how I personally percieve this game.
Thats another way of saying that I have my beliefs about this game and frontier as a whole, and theres not one single argument from anyone who is gonna change those beliefs...so whats the point in debating them at all? If frontier genuinely care, then its time they proved it...if they are as gifted as the fanbois say then its time to prove it. Words are meaningless at this point...even from the Braben himself cos its like listening to a very talented used car salesman...one can never be certain whats truth and whats sugar coated to make it appear less of an outright lie.
And thats another way of saying that I simply do not trust frontier, not like I used to. Only actual results can redeem them in my eyes...and this thread just like any other thread on this topic is nothing but an echo chamber of fanbois v everyone else while frontier silently munch popcorn in the background.
The time fer words and empty promises is over...either frontier shows off some of this alleged brilliance or they as done as a game gets imo. He is telling a "well-selected" truth, since that is the best way to advertise while staying "clean" on the accountability part - which is also a legal issue for them btw.
Standard business practice, especially amongst Shareholder Corporations.
Active Player numbers aren't "high, medium or low", since one would have to establish a common scale for these relative statements.
They're far below potential and don't reflect a healthy growth. Some would call it "anemic" or "stagnating".
And that's not advertising stuff. That's the reason they don't release their own figures - because they fully know that wouldn't be beneficial to them. Simple as that.
(btw. nothing of which is news, we've been in worse spots and already to a point where they started mass-Emailing "Please come back!" mails)
Yes, and that scale would be only someone knowing FD internal business practices and money flows. As we don't know it, those numbers are meaningless to us. Yet people try to get such information from companies for some reason. As I said, it doesn't matter. You like game. You play it. You don't like, you don't. What's the point?
Basically he is providing one information source. And FD shareholder report about 2017 (soon to published) will provide another one. And then will come 2018 report. And so on and so forth.
Collating those data together it seems David is talking sense. Even if he doesn't provide all info it seems he is confirming what is might be largely true.
It almost feels that lot of people want to get some data just to try to prove their point that game is dying.
Now you finally say what you wanted to say before. For such claims you will need some solid sources to quote though.
They are news to me. Developers trying to check game again around update time is classic approach to all companies.
Down from 5 years peak in May. Sure. There's not much trade going on with them so price tends to go up and down quite a bit.
Also Friday it went up again considerably
