Distant Worlds II - Fleet Roster Sign Up Thread

I'm not sure its pristine (unless FD erased tags), its been fully explored and tagged already since the region hasn't always been inaccessible, but it'll make for a nice novelty trip to revisit the area

I looked at a couple of systems while checking that I had been there when it was easy and my tags are in place. IIRC it was close enough to the bubble that untouched systems were rare, but far enough that untagged bodies were plentiful. That was quite a long time ago - I'm not sure how much more time passed before it got cut off.

Added the Alliance Crusader.

Useless stat #432

The total surface area covered by the fleet tops up to a whooping 24,645 km², which is just shy of the size of Vermont, or the island of Sicily. According to the US Census Bureau, the Los Angeles metropolitan area covers 12,561 km², only half of the fleet.

Hope you have taken the ship kits in account?! ;)

Can I suggest an idea is to have a new topic? About not having Fleet Carriers? How we are going to adjust. How will we do thing differently?

Although DW2 was hoping to incorporate Carrier gameplay into some of its peripheral events, the fact that they're no longer available does not significantly effect the core plans for this expedition. At its heart, DW2 hopes to incorporate the community goal proposals we posted in January, and to make use of a megaship acting as the fleet flagship during the journey. These two proposals are what the majority of the events and accompanying gameplay projects will be built around, should they be implemented.

What we don't want is DW2 to be re-run of DW1. These events need to evolve, there has to be more diverse gameplay opportunities for participants to enjoy - either via the player created events and projects we've written, and/or via the game mechanics themselves. So we're hopeful FD will see the merit in what's being proposed and will help with integrating the ideas they've been presented with. We're keen to incorporate as much of the Q4 content as possible into this event, but crucially have practical reasons for using it in accomplishing the expeditions mission goals. So despite the loss of Carrier gameplay, we're still keen to incorporate prospecting, mining, deep core blasting, and logistical support for the megaship, along with the new discovery techniques that have been alluded to.

We hope to hear something back from FD in the next few weeks regarding the submitted proposals. If there is a need to postpone, we'll announce it here, but for now DW2 is still scheduled to launch after the Q4 update has been released.

Carriers would have been an interesting concept for the journey. It's a pity that they're backtracking on them. That said, my Python's ready to go more or less. I'm sure Q4 will add a reason to modify it. I so can't wait for the ice changes and I'm kind of hoping they'll update icy asteroid fields too. I'm also really looking forward to the lighting changes. I'm still hoping they add in accretion disks sometime in the near future.

Edit - Just saw the new regarding icy worlds. That really sucks. Not just because they delayed it, but also because it means Frontier once again are falling behind schedule and will likely end up be cutting other planned content post Beyond.

My hope is that they chose the wording of "prioritization" very carefully, in that while carriers and ice worlds are delayed, there may be other features that were moved up in their place. Perhaps that's too optimistic, and they really meant that they just needed to sink all of their development resources into the other planned Q4 features to get those done on time. But Q4 still has the opportunity to be the biggest update from the exploration perspective that we've seen, overall, or at least since Horizons.

They did hint at one time, that explorers should start carrying defenses. It was very vague, and I'm wondering if they were just referring to the possibility of getting hyperdicted on the way back to the bubble. However, if they do add some sort of combat in far flung places, we're all going to have to rethink or builds.

I half suspect that someone took a commercial decision and moved some of the Q4 development effort onto the later stuff that will be paid for. I don’t actually mind paying for new stuff, I’ve played for over 3 years for something like £60 (plus a few paint jobs and some cool sunglasses) and would happily have paid for season 3. Was looking forward to the ice world update though. But am definitely looking forward to the exploration drones, just in time for DW2; eyeballing planets sucks!

The good news is I'm pretty sure they said that the delayed content won't be rolled into the paid stuff. It'll still be free, just delayed.

Sorry if this is stupid and im blind and cant see it.

When (in current time not year 3306) does the event start i can't seem to find this anywhere.

Still waiting on actual info, FD.

So say we all. I'm so tired of waiting for info about exploration that even my zest for the DWE2 is beginning to falter. The cut fleet carriers, delayed (cut?) ice planets, and recent Gnosis fiasco has me feeling more bitter than I already have been for the past year.

I just want some good exploration news for a change. [sad]
