BREAKING NEWS: GNOSIS STRANDED, GALNET NEWS!

FDev shouldn't be telling a story. They should be providing the props and setting the stage.

We should be doing the storytelling.

...

An ideal state of things, IMO. The more hands off the developer the better. Problem is, developer intervention is needed because so many mechanisms are incomplete. If the core gameplay components where finished and the bugs ironed out, Frontier would never have to write another line of story.

THIS. While an introductory and overarching big storyline content needs to be provided by the developer, the smaller day-to-day stuff should come from the community of an online game.

The problem in ED though is that there are barely any props for the community to build engaging stories with (contained completely within the game). It would be AWESOME if there was a mission/story builder which people could use to inject local stories into the universe. Sure, they'd still be limited by the framework and there'd need to be strong controls in place to avoid giving a gazillion spacebucks just for docking, but I'm sure we would get some really quality content into the game via community contributors.

Doubt we'll ever see anything like it though. Elite is a very tightly controlled work. Presumably to stay true to lore but even their own lore has been failing internal consistency checks for quite some time now.

Problematically all game world narrative works like that so your solution is to give up all narratives not mechanically supported through normal gameplay. So the BGS and PP... Yay.

My solution would be to provide core mechanisms that can support complex narratives. This wouldn't be perfect, but the game should never have made it out of alpha without such things as working population and economic models, for example.

The devs have been plugging the holes in basic gameplay mechanisms with arbitrary ad hoc 'content' for four years, rather than finishing those mechanisms so that deeper content could be created by player action and interaction with the game itself.

On the plus side it gives CMDRs a chance to get off now before it kicks off. This CG if it turns out to be this could have happened in side the locked area and there would been ALOT of very unhappy Krait pilots rigging the ships for mining.

This could be a final "Are you sure you wish to head to a locked area for a month. y/n"

Lugging mats out here isn't going to be easy

It will be interesting to see how FDev wriggle their way out of this foobar . Releasing the news before the event is actually embarrassing It’s so saddening to witness stuff like this when the future is looking so bright.

All gaming media will be on this like flys around a cowpat, red faces inbound.

*hangs head in shame * and I pity the dev who let this happen, he /she is in for a rough ride.

It’s a huge shame because it was such a huge community hype event like The Salome event...which I don’t need to remind players of how that turned out

Have a read about what current and former employees have to say about working there. I don't think you'll be interested after that. Imagine, if someone is perfectly happy abusing their customers...what on earth will their behavior be like to their employees?

What is Frontier's employee retention rate and and if you wish, could you please link your sources about Frontier's work environment? Although I feel terrible for those Commanders who went out of their way preparing for tomorrow, I feel worse for those of the Community Management Team and the Frontier employees who are conflicted by what Mr. Braben dictates and by what they know is most meaningful to players and the good of the game.

Frankly, Commanders, I would rather we suffer than the Frontier employees who are only trying to make a living. Life is hard enough as it is. At least we have the choice to leave the game with no repercussions.

At least I avoided to start at all, because of the "early posting" of the bad news. Just in time!

Thanks Frontier!!!! [up]

I was expecting to come back from work tomorrow, sit down without looking at the AXI discord for any spoilers and find out for myself about the new content.

I guess fdevs decided to spoil it a day before we even landed in the system.

I'm going to have to add the Gnosis fail jump to my post summarizing the most glaring issues that FD hyped up and then failed to deliver when the results were expected: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...lue-for-LEPs?p=6977006&viewfull=1#post6977006

Seriously, does anyone actually expect anything out of FD at this point other than more delays and more grind? I actually don't know what I'd do if FD actually delivered some meaningful content in the game, I'd probably need to submit a bug report for "not working as intended".

Goddamnit Frontier.. you're even making me agree with Devari!

Glassdoor reviews are what you are looking for, he's talking about a prior post I made in another thread.

No need to bail, if the Galnet article is accurate it's going to be stranded one system over, not locked.

Not picking at you specifically, as you are not the first to say something like this, but you really shouldn't poke at him.

His optimism and positive energy are something that a great many on this forum could learn and benefit from, to be honest.

If I'm being honest, he might very well not know what to say at all. Not because this seems to be pretty indefensible, but because it's so stunningly bad that it almost defies belief.

I am staying on the Gnosis, and I'll see what happens. If it ends up being as bad as it looks, well, I'm picking up the new Spider-Man game at 9pm, and that just means more time to enjoy that.

I'd rather enjoy this piece of content first.

Agreed.

And in terms of September games, I'm looking forward to Shadow of the Tomb Raider myself.
