ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Really can't wait to see what the experience using the DK2 is like. I really want to be able to try one before jumping in. I have a lazy left eye, where the brain ignores a lot of the image resulting in good vision only through my right eye. Though I can see 3D to what I consider an ok extent, does anyone own one that has a lazy eye, what has your experience been?

I've been considering pre-ordering a DK2, though have been hoping to try one out at some point, though haven't located any events I can go to that have oculus confirmed to try.

If anyone lives in the Cardiff area and knows of any events I would appreciate the tip :)

It's a few hours drive to Maidenhead but you're welcome to try mine :)

I have the same issue with my right eye and lack of stereo vision. For example the opticians stereo eye testing machines just don't work for me (I have to use the old chart on the wall method). I have no problem with DK1 or DK2. Perfect 3d and if anything I think it has helped reduce my problem.

Sounds promising, its good to know that people with eye issues won't be left out when the Oculus Rift drops properly :)

I have threated lazy eye my self(Perfect vision on both eyes but can only see with one at a time). Will be an interesting next week to see how it fares. :)

I always had an issue that one eye looks a bit higher up than the other but you can't adjust that on the oculus lenses I guess. If you could it could even be used to threat my vision even more. :)

Go to the 1st page 2nd post and be prepared to say goodbye to teh real world for a while.

Thanks - I've finally got it working properly in ED by
- starting ED with services on
- Alt-tab out of ED and turn services off
- Unplug the camera

This last step was what I needed to get head tracking to work.

And the resolution etc looked terrible until I manually set it to 1920x1080 at which stage the menus etc can be read. But when it was running in some other mode, the menu text were just symbols, and any white lines had rainbow shadows etc

Getting the older demos to run is a pain, but "Sight Line - The Chair" is well worth it as a demo...

Well my one turned up this afternoon & I had about 45 minutes with it before I took off for dinner with friends. Got it all out, checked it over and fired up the Elite Dangerous designated exclusive PC and....nothing :-| stupid PSU has gone kaput and seeing as the PC is so old, I'm just going to go and buy a new one tomorrow. Bloody hell!

Still, I've got my DK2 :D

Received my DK2 friday. Stayed up most of the night trying to get it to run anything at all. The orange light never turns blue :( Switched to a different computer and I was able to get it to work for 6 minutes, then nothing again. Still can not get it to work. I'm thinking that it is probably a hardware issue, maybe a bad cable.

The 6 minutes that I was able to run the oculus world demo had me squealing like a little school girl. Now I am so depressed :(

The orange light only turns blue when something is being rendered to the OR.

How have you set up your desktop display settings? This is how I have mine...

The blue light comes on when I switch on the DK2 as its immediately rendering my desktop.

After that its a case of me loading Elite and setting the in-game monitor to 'secondary display' - apply - and it works perfectly.

Do you have a similar desktop display setup ?

Found my problem. It seems that the quality of the hdmi cables that ship with the DK2 are pretty poor. Replaced the cable and everything works properly.

Hopefully they will address this for the CV1, and my replacement cable :D Now to try and get it working with Elite, DCS world, IL2 BOS, and any demos I can find. Does anyone know if IL2 BOB will work with the DK2?

@Erimus, thanks for the tip on setting up for Elite.

Do you mean IL2 COD? As far as I know it doesn't. Moreover, I thought IL2 BOSs Oculus support was postponed, so currently doesn't support it (although I'd love to be proven wrong).

Yea, that was a momentary lapse of memory  Was thinking battle of Brittan instead of cliffs of Dover. I haven't been following Battle of Stalingrad that closely, even though I prepurchased and have flown a few quick missions in the Lagg. I know that they had said they would support oculus. I didn't have much time to get it running in Elite, but did give it a quick go.
For some reason, it looks all cross eyed in ED. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Tried it in extended mode.

How do you get the head tracking working for the DK2 in elite? I finally got all the video problems squared away, but there doesn't seem to be much sense in using it if the head tracking doesn't work.

Go into the Oculus Configuration Utility. Go to 'Tools', 'Advanced' and click 'Pause service'. That works for me...
