ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Oculus input device: hear all about it in September at Oculus Connect.

Paul James: “How likely is it we’re hear more about your unconfirmed work with VR input devices at Oculus Connect?

Palmer Luckey: “You’ll probably hear more about it, we’re going to be talking about everything we’re doing at Connect.”

Pretty good interview tbh; currently about 20,000 DK2s shipped out of pre-orders of about 60,000.

E: D gets a mention @ about 7:00. :)

Do you mean you assume the CV1 will jump to 2560x1440?
Unless its already been stated, I don't think that will be the case...maybe Cv2.

But I'd definitely be first in line to order.
Dk2 is amazing for Elite and you feel like you're there ....but you feel like you're there in standard definition.
A jump to 2560x1440 would dramatically improve things, though not sure how most rigs would handle it.

If they can't handle it, they can go ahead and run it at 1920x1080 whether the Rift is 1440p or not. It's just a screen. There should be no reason outside of the cost and availability of the screens to stop Oculus from putting the best screen possible in the Rift.

From what I've seen, it's pretty widely assumed that CV1 will be 1440p.

The yellow line is painfully close to my username now. Had an email requesting new payment details this morning as the card had expired. Rectified and payment successful. Wonder how long til dispatch now?

I dont think this has been posted here (sorry if it has and I missed it)

I have not tried this myself, however I noticed this linked on the oculus forums

http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2dysny/elitedangerous_chromatic_aberration_improvement/

Wow that really makes a difference! I have very little chromatic aberration now - especially when looking at the star field background

Such a simple fix that makes a positive improvement gives me confidence FDEV can and will improve things further as the game develops

One other thing I've noticed that makes a very significant improvement (for me anyway) is if I place my hand in front of the IR camera the colour saturation within ED drops and makes everything far easier and clearer to see - especially ingame text. Obviously blocking the camera prevents you from having the full head tracking movement, so I was wondering if there is a way to turn down colour saturation for ED or the DK2 itself somewhere else?

Normally the video card has some color and gamma control, try changing thse settings for the rift screen

How did you make the changes? I have ED.exe open in hex editor but can find the code lines they ask you to change???

I couldn't find them at first then used the drop-down menu options in the Hex editor to select the datatype "Hex Values", I found them that way.

Between offset 00CE2853 and 00CE286A replace

0AD7A3BC with 426065BC
CDCCCC3C with 295C8F3C
0AD7A33C with 4260653C

(Also remember to mark your .exe as read only when you're finished, in case ED overwrites your edits).

Yeah, I had a play around with the NVIDIA options for the DK2 but it only seems to effect the desktop colours and not the colours in Elite itself.

I really wish ED graphics options had a lower colour saturation option - it could make everything much more clearer to see with the DK2 :(

I don't have those values though

Scratch that... Just found it! :)

Don't see much of a difference though ... Things were already looking pretty good so maybe that's why?

There's definitely an improvement for me when looking at individual stars. It could be more apparent depending on what GPUs we're using I suppose. I'm using a GTX770 so there may not be much improvement for you if you're using a better card?

Am getting some better performances today... Seems like some optimisations are going on behind the scenes... Super sampling is now hitting 75 fps constantly in space! :) if we can achieve the same in station, this would be awesome :)

I'll have to try the SS, has anyone done it on a AMD card with catalyst?

I asked that too.....Cannot find and info on the net re 14.4 and don't want to step back......Still on joy on the camera working for us with AMD risc.
I'm finding too much drift to test ED out properly.
