Is Chapter 4 "make it or break it" for you?

With an LEP, the answer should be no.

However, I haven't logged in since before C3, so I guess if C4 is a let-down, ED might just end up sitting there on my PC, neglected and unused.

I did not ever think it would happen, but ED is baically dead for me right now, and will be for sometime, until they fix missions, Passenger and cargo, add new ships that are not remakes, detail the planets, add excitement and at least let us move a free camera about in the ship, baby steps.

FD chose to start with a galaxy and slowly implement some good stuff, another unnamed developer decided to start very small with intricate details and everything being awesome, and then grow outward. FD, get your crap together.

As I posted in the official thread, my concern is not so much with the mechanic of scanning (which isn't broken imo) and more to do with the lack of 'things' or 'stuff' to go find and engage with. Admittedly everyone would benefit from some kind of planetary surface scanner, but I don't think much else needs to change.

However, details are light on what there may or may not be to find out there in C4, so I'm going to reserve judgement until Beta. If the new exploration doesn't really add anything of value to me, I'll just go back to playing Elite in these here forums. :)

Kinda. Time to revisit. Looking forward to the top sound and finally trying out 3rd person camera. Not looking forward to engineers, but I already gave up on the combat and ship equipment stuff long ago. Stuff I won't need to cruise around in deep space.

I hope.

I've seen that comment many times in various places. I tend to refer to Q4 update as "make it or break it" as well, when it comes to my involvement in Elite.

There sure is a lot of hope and expectations for Chapter 4 in the large part of the community, judging by the comments all over the internet, be it these forums, other forums, various Discord severs nad social media platforms...

So just wondering how many people feel similar. Is Chapter 4 going to be "make it or break it" for you?

:EDIT:

Some additional clarification :)

Exploration was make or break for me. There is no *meaningful* gameplay and no real persistence.

So it's break for me I'm afraid. I'm not interested in an isolated and disconnected minigame that will get old after the nth time.

Everything gets old after the nth time.

In order for this "minigame" to be engaging it has to be varied, challenging and well integrated to the core game. Sadly all 3 of those points are something fdevs are definitely not good at, at all.

My expectations are pretty damn low, and for me too 3.3 will be make it or break it. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though, we haven't actually seen anything concrete yet.

Why isolated and disconnected?

Why isolated and disconnected?

I imagine this:

None of what has been proposed amounts to meaningful gameplay for the following reasons:

- None of the data generated persists

- None of the data generated is available for other players to see

- There is no value to the player for time spent performing the task and no value to the playerbase

It's an isolated, disconnected minigame designed to check off a very limited list of criticisms scooped from the forum.

It's a very far cry from the comments posted by FDev CMs on the ED subreddit earlier this year - that this season of updates was intended to bring the game closer to the original vision.

Q4 is simply 'make it' for me.
If it doesn't make it, then it stays 'break it', and I'll see again again at the next update.
Though, based on what's been revealed so far, I have a feeling I'll be playing again for Q4. :)

I'm still not sure I completely understand his point.

Basically he says exploration data should automatically be added to other players' systems, so we all share the discovery state of the galaxy?

I says it's not persistent, but the discovered/mapped tags clearly are.

No. Even if FD stopped supporting Elite this very moment, I would still play regularly. The reason for that is that I do not use much of the functionality built into the game that many, unfortunately, say is broken or needs patching. I basically fly around from place to place seeing the sights. If I'm running low on money I'll do some PAX missions to full the coffers and then I'm right back to floating around aimlessly. Anything that FD add to the game now, for me, is just gravy. I hope it's awesome, but if it isn't, meh, I love the game as it is already.

This does not mean, however, that I am not passionate about the game. I want it to be successful and profitable, and I want everyone who plays it to have an enjoyable experience. That being said, yes, I would like them to continue to improve the areas that are lacking and fix the areas that are broken. And, seeing as how there has been a fair bit of disappointment lately regarding some recent updates and the weight-loss of the Q4 update, I would think that Q4 is a critical update for FD and for the community. Ergo, if Q4 is not a success, there may be a mass exodus of players which will negatively impact the future of Elite development.

So, although Q4 is not "make-it-or-break-it", it sure is important.

Beyond made leaps on several qol issues, best patch since horizons. Looking forward to chapter 4 and the game being stronger than ever. What I think will make or break this game for many is the content of the new paid expansion. It needs to move the game forward significantly, or I fear we will lose many. I will probably always play on and off till they turn the servers off, but if this franchise is gonna make it, it needs more than a few fortyish space enthusiasts. One hopes they've learned some important lessons that apply to both games from the recent reviews of the dinosaur game.

Pretty much, yes.
Not to say I wouldn't fire it up to see if any improvements came along, but my down-time is limited, and I have other games to play, other things to do.
It's simply a matter of declining interest, not fury, or salt.

Same here. I might fire it up sometime after the update just to check on things, but unless it's spectacular, I have other games to play.

I think those other games will win after the update as they're doing now.

But I haven't uninstalled yet.

I'm still waiting for the reveal of the other aspects in the Q4 update.
However if the proposed new ads mini game remains the chances are slim that Q4 will "make it" for me.
The probes are fine, the new uss system too but the scanning mini game isn't adding anything imho, just makes things more complex and tedious with the same result.

The exploration update is the pinnacle for me, if what they've revealed is it then I'm out.
Not everything is shown yet though so I'll wait with my final verdict.
