PvP League Season 4

I hope more players sign up for this than last time, it was a little disappointing that so few PvPers took part.

It was a fun watch, especially the after fight shenanigans [up]

We had a lot of teams last season, i think you might be confusing it with some other tournament or league. Also, we already have 9 teams signed up right now, 2 days into sign ups with 3 entering soon atleast. Should be fun

Yes, @VincentUK I think you must be thinking of some smaller event. This is ED's headline (player organised, but still headline) PvP event and the last one had 20 teams in it, iirc. It took weeks to complete.

Now, @SelfAppointedForumCategorisationMods:

Would you kindly consider the fact that there are, right now, several threads in Dangerous Discussion which unequivocally mono-topic on Exploration, Aliens or Engineers, each of which have their own sub-forums. There always are.

Would you also please consider that threads in DD on a weekly if not daily basis are devoted solely to the topic of PvP - in the sense of complaining about it. They do not mention one single other aspect of the game yet they stay in DD.

In fact, in response to the initial concerns expressed when the (relatively) new forum categorisation began, Brett C expressly said that discretion would be exercised otherwise DD would be practically empty. And that was in response to a question by me, about PvP as it happens.

The current thread is an invitation to the entire community not just to take part but also to spectate. It is in fact (incredibly) ED's only real live spectator event, now in its fourth season.

I am delighted to see that the actual moderators have so far ignored these re-categorisation requests and sincerely hope that they will continue to do so. (Not least because a consistent application of the rigour some posters are demanding would basically nuke DD overnight.)

too bad i don't have a wing, and discarded competitive pvp with engineers, but this sounds very fun. right on, unleash carnage, good luck to all and ... post some videos!

I don't have anywhere near the time to participate, I really REALLY wish that I did, but I'll definitely be tuning in to watch.

@Truesilver, very well spoken, big agree. That's also a very interesting fact, that the PvP League events are still the only live spectator event going on for ED.

I don't know about the rules this year, but in the past the League matches were limited to one g1 modification per ship.

That many other threads are regularly left in DD is not a surprise, there is normally some ambiguity where the topic may not lie completely within one of the defined sub-topics. If it's not obvious, leaving it alone is fine. The CLogging opinion thread is a good example of this.

The reason I requested this be moved is because it is unambiguously a PvP topic, an ideal candidate for the PvP sub-forum. All users are free to browse and post in all unlocked sub-forums, a player looking for PvP news is going to go there and may only go there. That's why there are sub-forums after all. That other threads have not been moved does not change the veracity of requesting this one be moved (or that it stay either).

As far as discretion is concerned that's up to the mods. I argue it should be moved & state my case, you argue your case & someone decides.

If I were to see a thread that was obviously (like written in the thread title obvious) better suited to off topic, or powerplay, or any number of other subjects we have a sub-forum for I'd ask for them to be moved too. Whether they actually get moved or not isn't up to me, nor is it up to you TrueSilver.

We have each stated our case, you want it to stay here because you think it'll get more views here, I think it should be moved to the PvP sub-forum because it's a PvP topic. That's it, no conspiracy, no SelfAppointedForumCategorisationModding.

Pretty it up however you like, the real reason you're going after this thread with appeals to the mods to intervene is the same reason you passive aggressively defend clogging whenever the opportunity arises. No one who regularly visits this forum has any doubts as to your motivation.

Personally, I think the thread belongs in DD so that more people can hear about the League and have a chance to spectate.

So what's my motivation in your opinion if not the actual words I used to describe my motivation?
It must be a pretty elaborate one given how much I've written on the topic of CLogging, and meaningful PvP, and shield/weapon balancing, and finding common ground over the past several years.

I'm intrigued to read what you're going to come up with.

ETA anyone else want to chip in btw, JasonBarron suggests you should all be in no doubt, so I'm expecting lots of the same answer.

yes, that's cool but it just drove me off open and now i lack the expertise, so i'll probably wouldn't be of good use for any team (besides, i don't have one :D). i've no problem getting my butt handed in 1vs1 though :)

as per the rules (link in op), this is no limits except healing rays and such and synthesis.

I'll chip in. An open invitation to the community at large is not a PvP topic, even if the event is a PvP Event. And, this is an E|D Event like no other. None.

Why would having that invitation be in the PvP section be a bad thing?

Seems to me requesting it remain in DD is asking for a favour, when it really belongs in the PvP section where people interested in PvP (and watching PvP) will see it. I would have seen it there, so would you I think.

Come on riverside grow up man, what your doing is just petty.

How so?

The door is over there.

If we could see it in both, that would be great. Moving it would be the suck.

Is a favor such a big deal? I mean, no one is discussing PvP, they are discussing a community wide event. Or whether it should be in DD. That's it.

So you're saying I should be magnanimous in the face of hostility?

because even if you were right (which is at least debatable, see mohrgan's answer), what's your point poking around on a topic about something that doesn't interest you? not nice. live and let live.

I'm interested, where did you get the impression that I wasn't?

What do you think my motivation is?
