mission server - the death of ED

I appreciate the immediate consquences for some people will be pretty upsetting but I think from a long term point of view this really is a good move, FD will have a better platform from which to impove mission generation and we'll all have a hopefully quicker more stable system to make use of.

Then again I don't board flip and don't need to wait around for further balancing changes.. I can see that losing all that is going to be a right pain until FD others changes things.

Aye it is a good move if improvements are made. But Frontier have said no improvements are planned at this time.

As it stands, from a player's perspective it's just really going to be a reduction in mission choice, and that's about it.

So with this change I think Frontier should bump the number of missions per faction by ~25%+

I didn't read the whole thread, so I don't know if its been mentioned, but this issue won't really flame up until we see whether or not it this change also affects places like DavMart, and Guardian Ruins.

Unless I have missed it, Frontier haven't said a word about this yet, and I don't think anyone has directly asked the question.

But.... you're BOARD FLIPPING!!! ZOMG!!! :p

You simply must accept what you're given NAO!!

I have been board flipping like forever and every singltime it feels just silly , I am forced to do so because I love BGS and I prefer influence++++ missions.

Elite Dangerous is a very unique game , with its big flaws , it still the best in its category with literally no competition because the alternatives come with some rather huge cons(EVE Online, Star Citizen, No Man’s Sky, etc). In short, no, the grass is not greener on the other side.

I suppose, from a certain point of view, anyone that accesses the Mission server more than once at the same location in a play session is engaging in board flipping. :)

And that's the problem, innit? ;)

As I've stated elsewhere (and previously) the issue isn't the "board flipping" it's the flipping board itself.

It needs a serious overhaul. I see 70%+ WINGS missions in SOLO. Clear indicator that there's issues with the mission system itself. It wasn't originally intended to handle the needs of the game in its current state. Adding a "dedicated server" simply does not address that, at all. (nor all the previous bugs associated, such as kill X targets "stacking", etc.)

i'm trying to find the association between these two consecutive paragraphs in the same post but i'm completely lost. maybe i'm really just too high to read the forums ...

i think you deserve something, anyway. some kind of 'most xxxxx post of the year' but still unsure what.

ask me tomorrow! :D

It is not going to effect Dav's or the Guardian Ruins, all that's totally independent to the mission system.

I don't see how your contributing to this discussion. You're saying that you don't use missions and yet this thread is about people who do use missions and the effect the new mission server will have on the quality of their life.

I'm responding to "the death of ED." I'm just reminding you that there are a lot of ways to enjoy the game. Issues with one mechanic won't doom the game. I do sympathize with your problem, just not your hyperbole.

IMHO board flipping just comes down to greed, no other explanation. A player might like doing only type X missions, they log on and see a handful of X missions, but they remember last week they were paying Cr2m but now are only playing Cr1m. So they start to board flip, hoping to find those high paying missions that may not even exist because last week's missions were a glitch by FD or the BGS changed for their station. Or the player that will only leave the station if they have a full passenger or cargo load, and will sit there madly flipping the modes until they get that perfect little mission to fill the last empty hole in their ship.

There are times I am in a quandary on which mission to take, I am presented with a rich choice, other times there might not be one mission that catches my eye. When the latter happens I go and do something else, a bit of exploring, run some trade, kill some NPCs. Just seems to me that some here expect (or in a few cases, demanding) perfect missions for them every time, without fail. It isn't going to happen, it doesn't now with board flipping and it won't happen after the change goes through.

What might happen though is when the missions are on their own server there could be an increase in stability, it could be quicker to open, and since FD will have better control over mission board generation, better (not necessarily higher paying - please note that) missions become available. After all we could get lucky and start getting missions for exploration activities - something that is sorely missing.
