That gives them some time to fix their 32bit-cryengine-limitation! ;)

A loooooot of time since SC fans will looooooove RC (Racing Commander)!!! ;)

Didn't I predict a racing variant just last week, and was told by dedicated CIG watchers, no, no, no, we already have that, it's the M50!

Ok, time for the new 10 for the Chairman ... ;)

Can we expect to be able to buy more ships? PLEAASE YESSSSS!

Fun Fun Fun!

But seriously. 60% are now 27 or less.

We've been wasting our time mate. We believed a sales man selling an old school game. Only to have ended up providing a launch pad for CIG to go after the COD market.

And now here were are.

Look at this

As for advertising partners: as we've said before, we are not against the concept as long as it makes sense inside our universe. That is to say it would make sense to see a racing ship with a company's logo on it... or even to fly past a billboard during a race... but you'll never have a situation where you land on a pirate base and have to listen to a talk about the great taste of 7-Up before loading your ship. :)

There's two (or more) ways to do that. One is to create ads for companies that might still exist in the 30th century and then a fictional ad campaign for them. So if McDonalds picks up a space billboard at a racetrack (not likely, just an example!), it has to advertise 30th century space food and not tell you to head on down to your local restaurant because the Filet o Fish is now on the dollar menu.

So pathetic.

Yeah, you are right ... Now i understand all the people telling us that both games will not be comparable! It's TRUE! They really can't be compared because one will be a real space sim and the other will be a MassEffect style mouse controlled space arcade game with plenty of nice cut-scenes and a very straight storyline.
Ok, got it ... finally! I apologize for having required so much time! ;)

Here's a poll I linked a while back (Poll is ca 2 weeks old)

https://forums.robertsspaceindustri...e-star-citizen-backer-age-and-content-poll/p1

4.88% under 17
20.63% 18 - 24
42.74% backers are 25 - 35
31.74% 36 +

I trust the other one. It is supported by the evidence of what we are seeing. i.e freelancer controls, dumbing down, COD styly, capture the core, graphics over gameplay. Market message that are quite obviously transparent partonising lies to anyone who's been around the block, yet lapped up by a younger audience, etc etc etc

EDIT

I'm sorry I just can stop laughing at classic example of Robertisan justification delivered as usual by his mouth piece Lord Lesnick.

Could it be that any company short of AL Qaeda prepared to pay them money so they can flog crap at CIGs backers
will be deemed likely to exist in 1000 years from now?

PS- I think the ingame advertisements can really add to the immersion and the fealing of a game if their made properly ala BladeRunner for instance! Night shots should be awsome with all the neons!

Very true. Television is the last bastion. That's why I didn't specifically call it out.

There are tremendous things happening on TV the last few years. Not attributable to a young audience mind you. And in no way a counter to the notion of the dumbing down of games and films.

As far as SC fans go, Trash, you're no fanboy. I'm sure you take my point. Don't cross swords on such an undefensible position. Leave it to the fanboys. Get your popcorn I suggest while your at it. It's going to be a blood bath.

Interesting enough when thinking about it, the absence of investors (for movies) and advertisers\ratings ( TV-series ) is what allowed the rise of quality TV.

Its kind of similar to the situation with publishers and free to play (p2w) that happens in the gaming industry (no silver lining in sight though).

Will be interesting to see if ED\SC and crowd funding change this up for computer games, but I kind of agree that the nature of crowd funding is not that well suited to long time planing as is pointed out in this thread (necessity to make promises, ship sales ....).

The point is CR was free to not sell out. But he did anyway. Because that's the kind of guy he is.

Please don't associate CR with Riddly Scott. You might get swallowed up by the earth or struck by a lightning bolt.

So they're making a step back with their "I'm in love with Ironman movies UIs, let's put big glowing pseudo-VR moving elements, even if it's uncomfortable mess in a game" swiss army knife helmet? That's a good move.

About in-game ads: let's not forget FDEV may take this route too. Personally, I'm not totally against it as long as it's subtle enough and integrated into the theme and the era of the game. Even if the budgets are incomparable, both projects may have to find ways to sustain their day to day cost beyond the "simple" game sales.

I like the new cockpit, but it brings up a point. How much work does CIG put into throw away code?

I dont know if you are creating many things in your life.

Its a normal approach to go through many revisions of your product may it be a text you are writing or a model you are building.

The more iterations it have the more "deep" it feels. That they revise so many aspects is actually a good thing - and its the thing many backers especially want.

thats my opinion. I have experience in creativity for many years now. simple rule: be quick, revise when necessary.
I cant tell something about the speed though as I am no 3d model artist and have no clue whats needed to make those ships / displays work..

But I do think the displays showing stuff was necessary. I also think having a helmet only HUD for presentational purposes and for later use in the game was not wasted.

I create tons of stuff in my life, as an Eng its all I do. But there is a massive difference in polishing code that will get thrown out, there is a difference in presenting work and then doing something completely different. Trying different things is good, and leads to better stuff, but if you spend months polishing and such just to turn around and throw it out, that leads to wasting money and time.

Edit:
Perhaps it just shows how bad CIG is at communications, many backers hated the current HUD, and many love it. But because it was what CIG have presented and what CIG have praised, the ones that love it defended it and called it perfect. Also stating that it was the new direction from CIG, with CIG showing the WIP on how the current HUD was developed there was no reason to believe that it would change. Now we have something different with no hint, till now, that it was going to change this drastically. This is by far not the first time it has happened, the poor work on the Freelancer being the prim example.

What ever gave you the feeling that anything was "polished" in this pre alpha?

EDIT: There has only been one pass on the UI so far, it hasnt exactly been worked on or polished at all... Its quite literally their first pass.
