faction idea....

Yes, and I was giving you a con - namely, that such a choice being made for you is at odds with the "total freedom" ethos of the game itself.

agreed.
thanks

Its a bit of both. You chose the faction and the faction chose you. Its based on your behaviour and your actions. Attack a faction, please another rival faction. Please all factions and you can can be all factions.

Do a bit work for one faction, switch to another faction if they will have you, then switch back, if they will have you.

ahh ok. i see.
so you're saying in a way it's already implemented?

Its a fine idea, but personally, I'd rather start off the game neutral, get setup, then pick the winning side...

you don't think a mode is possible in solo play or something?

cause i love the way it is now too. but really i'm just weighing it out. to see what people think and why.

You are neutral. You dont just scroll down a list and pick a side whenever you spot a fight going on. Thats not how it will work. Thats just how it works in the beta.

Your side will be chosen for you by your previous actions throughout the game at that point.

You start of a nobody. Gain the trust of a faction and they will let you join them. Abuse that trust and they will turn against you. On the sneak you could also do the same for another faction if you chose. The dilemma comes when at some stage you are forced to work against a faction you work for by another faction that you work for.

Or if you want, stay neutral.

But that is your choice.

.

choosing sides is going to be an important factor for what missions you get.
this with the combination of your reputation.
the different factions all keep track of this in their own way.
you can be seen entirely different from one side to the other.
in frontier this was already implemented.
and now their building something similar but with more variations.

so in a way yes ...
but you start as neutral.

Having to invest a bit of time and energy to show what you're really made of, is not such a bad thing. The more you have to work in order to get any benefits, the more you feel it is deserved somehow. You're not aligned on the drop of a pin!

And those freeloaders can take a hike to some independent systems, where they truly belong. In my most humble opinion of course! ;)

Of course.

In Frontier you started off with simple courier missions. Do enough well and on time and you get a more difficult but better paying sets of missions and so on.

In this version I can see you being offer items that only that faction can give (sell) that the other does not possess.

I would enjoy this as an option. I don't think I would play it as my main character, but I would find having a randomly 'rolled' start on one of my commander slots fun.

That said, I could achieve something very like this just by letting my four-year-old play the first 30 minutes of my game. So, I have a fine for ramming the station, a cargo hold full of marshmallows, and I appear to have downloaded some sort of My Little Pony decal for my Sidewinder... :D

It could be an idea as a choice of start ala Frontier all those years ago. can't see a problem with that as long as theres a choice of a neutral start.

I'd love to see a Cobra/Sidey at lave with 100 credits :)

as an option because i honestly don't see this as that intrusive or big of a program to do that..

What about those of us who will start in the Founders' System ?

you must know something i don't
what is the founders system?
