News Beyond - Chapter Four - Beta Announcement

Many of us are already there and will await the livestreams and the beta before jumping to conclusions.

You mean... discussing, raging, criticizing and deeply analyzing things we don't know about and acting on imagined ideas and outcomes, and pin those on the devs is stupid nonsense? Wow. ;)

I humbly disagree, the billboard effect is especially off putting and distracting while playing Elite in VR, which many people do.

Sure, but that's not primary audience for ED, is it? I would like to see volumetric everything, but as I said, I am not sure we are ready to ditch low end machines, especially those with two cores, from being able to play ED.

It was actively managed by FD, but it seems like some CMDRs - including you - didn't get the memo about the way the event would go.

At this point, whatever argument I brought would be inconsistent with the denial of evidence. In any case ... have fun

The event was a success exclusively for the part of the preparation in which the FDEV had no role. They only boycotted it. If you want to give them merit, well, but intellectually it is not an honest exercise towards the communities, which are the real worthy of the applause on the positive part of the event

Without game there wouldn't be even. Without FD there wouldn't be Gnosis. Without FD trying to do something interesting there wouldn't be first *real time* attack on some structure. Yes, there were bugs. Yes, there were issues with communication. Yes, some people did not get a memo.

But going around using obvious reference to real life events where real life people died is just dumb and jarring. You can criticize FD, you can say that you will be careful before hyping release - fine. Just stop using stupid excuses, or try to induce forum drama to drive your points home. It is annoying as hell. No one benefits from that.

The problem with the billboard effect is that they rotate with your point of view, meaning as your head or ship rotates so do they. Even with non VR I can see this being particularly off putting, not game breaking by any means though. If they do what they did with the cockpit smoke effects which used to be affected in a similar way then it will be fine.

Ohh yeah, their rotation is off putting indeed. Well...yeah. I wish they would move on from billboarding. I suspect that move with raising specifications is pushed somewhere down the line.

Can someone draw a line graph of how this thread started in positivity, passed through the plateau of familiarity, then the trough of nit-picking and now the nadir of gloom and doom?

Galnet space weather reports.
Giant space whales.
Guardian construct engineer to upgrade your Guardian modules.
New ships to fly than can link up and transform into a giant robot.
Rename the Corvette to Ironing Board

A graph might be a bit difficult :)

(tongue firmly in cheek)

But it appears to have gone thus:

1) Folk with a positive attitude applaude the upcoming changes
2) Other folk say to themselves "Not enough salt on this"
3) More vocal group complain that the changes couldn't possibly make the game better as it hasn't incuded exactly what they want the game to be
4) Salt crew shovel some more in...
5) FDev can never 'get it right' because they never have
6) More salt please...
7) Those who actually enjoy the game are shouted down by the 'salt crew' because of... (see 3 above)
8) It is far easier to scream 'Doomed' than be positive

I applaude FDev for the coming changes, from all of the hints given it seems that the 'pew pew' crowd are having to take a back seat in favour of those who prefer a slightly more sedate gameplay - but that is just my take on things.

One thing is clear to me: You wasn't there and are just talking out of hearsay.

you are right i wasn't but i followed the event closely and watched the live streams and read forums and found out about all the bugs and people getting blown up before they could even take off because the thargoids where blocking the launching pad. i see bull an i cal it out.

Or maybe you've actually spend all the time in the Gnosis while 'roleplaying' to be totally helpless and in big danger! :D

i dont do role-play specially whit a story as weak as the elite dangerous universe.

There were no 'ship eating bugs' there, what actually was there was no threat even to my non-combat explorer Cobra.

i told you about this already, and what did you do, managed to pass the thargoids maybe go to a couple nearby systems that you could go without getting on the Gnosis and honk?? Top quality gameplay right here ladies and gentlemen

I couldn't kill them either with my standard weapons

you dont say

but I could at least try without being pulverized.
yea i guess you can try to tickle them i guess.

So next time you seclude some rubbish you'd better investigate in what you copy and paste. Helps with reputation...

' but yeah, there was big drama on the forums at this time... :p

i wouldn't call drama when your own carrier is shooting at you because you are defending it. i wouldn't call drama when people are getting off and they are getting blown up even before they can exit the Gnosis landing pad.

Any way here is a comander on his trusty anaconda getting blown on the landing pad by a swarms of thargoids for good measure. Get woke fanboy

Then people be like Psssh!
Then they all like Awww!
Then the Gnosis be like nah-ah
Then it be Thursday
And everyone be like Yay!
And next day, it gonna be like Friday
Then there be drinks
And Monday it be kicking off again

That looked totally awesome.

there is a saying for this.... "your reputation precedes you" remember no man sky? how they where the scummiest devs in the whole world. and then they release a patch that made the players believe in their game again by adding a bunch of features that the players requested and supported community modding without hyping, announcing, saying exciting 30,000 times and SOON™. basically show don't tell. Yea... frontier is Hello games before NEXT.
