Distant Worlds II Event What Ship are you Bringing and Why?

I will be doing DW2 in an Orca. Why? I have done long explorations in an Asp, Anaconda, eagle and each time I go out I choose a different ship. Plus the fact the Orca has a swimming pool with a floating cocktail bar.

Don't forget the excellent supercruise handling, and the cockpit view plus visibility. I quite liked flying a Beluga myself, but never liked the restricted choice of modules ("Shield generator, fuel scoop, fighter bay: choose two of three"): that problem will be solved now. Wish they had done it sooner.

Plus Guardian Booster. ;)

And with 3.3 you can have them all and get pretty decent jump range as well: https://s.orbis.zone/s-d

This change puts Beluga to shared first place with the most optional internals with Anaconda, 11 both. Anaconda having also one military slot, but since military slots wont help exploration, 11 both. :)
Sadly, the fuel scoop ratio remains quite lame as even if you get 64t tank, it still takes ages to fill with that 6A scoop. Im currently at Autumn Odyssey with my alt Cmdr and his Beluga, scooping and heat are the two biggest problems with Beluga, imo.

I rearranged some internals and made it look a little more like my Krait's configuration, and got right around the same jump range. Wow. https://s.orbis.zone/s_q

But yeah, heat and scooping will always be the limiting factors for this ship, probably.

Well next Thursday 11-8 we will be seeing the Ships Livestream by Frontier. I wonder how many pilots choice of ship will be changing after it? :D

I already know I'm dropping my DBX for something else. Whether my new choice is my four year old Asp Explorer or some new ship entirely depends on next Thursday....

After switching to VR, I was considering taking something else with a better cockpit view... but at the end I just can't give up the Corvette. :)

Krait MKII for me, unless the Phantom or Mamba is something really special. It's rare that I like a ship both mechanically and aesthetically, but the MKII is just a fantastic ship for me.

same thoughts here :)
not sure if 4t is enough for a swimming pool but it should be enough for a jacuzzi :D

Disclaimer:
I dont think this will be my last decision as I switched already from
- Cutter (cause I just got the rank when DW2 was announced) to
- T7 (cause of the recent mass reduction buff) to
- Python (cause I already wanted to do DWE in it) to
- Corvette (as I grinded that rank after the Imp one) to
- Clipper (cause I tried and tried but couldnt find another role for it) to
- Krait (cause Krait) and now to
- Orca ;)

I'm fully expecting the Krait Phantom to be an exploration variant. We already know (strongly suspect from pics) it has less hardpoints and no SLF so its likely not a combat version. I doubt very much it's a cargo Krait, although it might be designed to both hold more cargo AND jump farther than the MkII when leaned out.

Nope, I really feel like it's going to be a Krait jumper with a very nice cockpit view. I'm hoping it is as I'd love to be able to take something other than my Asp X along for the trip!

I really hope you're right. My suspicion is that it's a stealth variant. The Krait already runs cool, so I'm not sure what would change, other than to make it run even cooler. But if that's the case, it might just be a lightweight combat variant with a crap jump range. I hope I'm wrong.

EDIT: If they add an actual, proper stealth mechanic, then a new stealth ship might be very cool. But then I would hope that something more exploration-focused would come along in another ship.

Something else to consider; the Phantom might turn out to be another Asp Scout; a less useful version of what we already have. It's worth considering that it's spawning alot as a pirate ship right now. Not something you'd expect from an explorer, but exactly what you'd expect from a cheaper version of a combat ship.

Yeah, I hadn't thought about that. It makes perfect sense. Well, that will be boring. :)

Well, damn..

Now with Saud Kruger restricted slots gone, i'm quite tempted on taking this miner-Beluga to DW2..

https://s.orbis.zone/tsu

Carries everything you need and jumps over 50ly.
I doubt i can give up my plan of taking Corvette to Beagle Point, but that Beluga build is very tempting.

Soo… my plan has changed to this now:
Step 1: Taking my Cutter to Colonia during Christmas Carriers 3.
Step 2: Going back to the Bubble in my DBX.
Step 3: Going on DW2 in my conda with full mining gear, to help building the science station at Sag A*
Step 4: When it's finished, head to Colonia to grab my Cutter and continue on from there.

So a resounding theme I'm getting here is that SLF's aren't featuring much. I was under the impression that SLF's would have a role, but without being able to dismiss the ship I really don't know what kind of shenanigans we could get up to which wouldn't risk the main ship. I've tried flying around a planet in an SLF and the manoeuvres my main ship was pulling scared me.

Without SLF, the Krait MkII actually has enough slots for me. Still tempted by a Python though; the cockpit is ever so much nicer even though the view is more restricted.

I'm trying to unlock the Guardian SLFs for my Krait in case FDev pulls a Gnosis on us. I want some form of Thargoid defense. Those less paranoid then myself can likely do without, though.

Races! SLF races!

Also it's super fun to fly them from tiem to time, especially if you're in a big ship. I won't go without them.

As Nagi mentioned, there most likely will be SLF races during DW2, so i am definitely taking one with me. Even with the 30km restriction, you can have quite nice race in some canyon with bunch of SLFs. :)

We've got some plans to utilize SLFs, not only for races etc, but as part of the DW2 ED:RPG campaign where certain situations arise that could trigger SLF raids against pre-designated targets. Can't say much at the moment as we need to iron it out and test it, but we're hoping those taking SLFs will have options to use them for more than just canyon racing.
