Don't forget the excellent supercruise handling, and the cockpit view plus visibility. I quite liked flying a Beluga myself, but never liked the restricted choice of modules ("Shield generator, fuel scoop, fighter bay: choose two of three"): that problem will be solved now. Wish they had done it sooner.
And with 3.3 you can have them all and get pretty decent jump range as well: https://s.orbis.zone/s-d
This change puts Beluga to shared first place with the most optional internals with Anaconda, 11 both. Anaconda having also one military slot, but since military slots wont help exploration, 11 both.
Sadly, the fuel scoop ratio remains quite lame as even if you get 64t tank, it still takes ages to fill with that 6A scoop. Im currently at Autumn Odyssey with my alt Cmdr and his Beluga, scooping and heat are the two biggest problems with Beluga, imo.
Well next Thursday 11-8 we will be seeing the Ships Livestream by Frontier. I wonder how many pilots choice of ship will be changing after it?
I already know I'm dropping my DBX for something else. Whether my new choice is my four year old Asp Explorer or some new ship entirely depends on next Thursday....
After switching to VR, I was considering taking something else with a better cockpit view... but at the end I just can't give up the Corvette.![]()
I will be doing DW2 in an Orca. Why? I have done long explorations in an Asp, Anaconda, eagle and each time I go out I choose a different ship. Plus the fact the Orca has a swimming pool with a floating cocktail bar.
Krait MKII for me, unless the Phantom or Mamba is something really special. It's rare that I like a ship both mechanically and aesthetically, but the MKII is just a fantastic ship for me.
I'm fully expecting the Krait Phantom to be an exploration variant. We already know (strongly suspect from pics) it has less hardpoints and no SLF so its likely not a combat version. I doubt very much it's a cargo Krait, although it might be designed to both hold more cargo AND jump farther than the MkII when leaned out.
Nope, I really feel like it's going to be a Krait jumper with a very nice cockpit view. I'm hoping it is as I'd love to be able to take something other than my Asp X along for the trip!
Something else to consider; the Phantom might turn out to be another Asp Scout; a less useful version of what we already have. It's worth considering that it's spawning alot as a pirate ship right now. Not something you'd expect from an explorer, but exactly what you'd expect from a cheaper version of a combat ship.
So a resounding theme I'm getting here is that SLF's aren't featuring much. I was under the impression that SLF's would have a role, but without being able to dismiss the ship I really don't know what kind of shenanigans we could get up to which wouldn't risk the main ship. I've tried flying around a planet in an SLF and the manoeuvres my main ship was pulling scared me.
Without SLF, the Krait MkII actually has enough slots for me. Still tempted by a Python though; the cockpit is ever so much nicer even though the view is more restricted.
