Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

But if there's more than just the two, why haven't they been spotted in the beta? Someone should have spotted them by now, no?

Why go the trouble of including two of the ships in the beta, but not the rest?

The Krait Phantom was leaked early via the store, and removed soon after. Why is it in beta? Only Frontier knows.

That other ship was leaked in beta, but there's no indication if that was on purpose or just someone pressing the wrong button in Cambridge. Its happened before, the Dolphin was shown in a livestream within a station, before it was released.

I can categorically state that we will get a minimum of 2 new ships :D Quite interested in the Mamba solely due to the cockpit design, the view from that ship will be awe inspiring.

Another thing I do know is these new ships will create endless posts:
- Someone will find some panel that isn't lined up correctly and will rant and rave about it
- There will be comparisons made to other ships, which ship is best, how one of these new ships is the latest meta ship to own and if you don't then you aren't playing the game right.
- Someone will complain that FD got the module sizes wrong
- There will be calls to immediate nerf the new ships if they are better than someone's favourite ship, or buff them if they are not.
- FD will release paint jobs for them on the day 3.3 drops
- There will be calls for an exploration ship, even if one of the new ships is an exploration ship, it isn't the exploration ship they wanted
- Someone will complain that FD are just catering to the pew pew crowd.

Oh there will be some fun times ahead :D

Are you saying it's not in the beta anymore, or that it never was? I clearly remember seeing pictures of it in one of the beta threads.
It was in the beta last i heard, and i would guess it still is(maybe?) I belive he was saying that it was removed from the store when FDev saw that it had gotten leaked.

I think people have seen it in the beta.

Was the Phantom leak before or after the chapter 4 trailer?

Leaked on the store before the beta and the Chapter 4 trailer. There's a thread on that store leak somewhere.

Yeah, this.

IMO, they have to release the Panther Clipper. SLF pilots have mentioned that for a while now, plus even David Braben has talked about it:
http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Panther_Clipper

Plus, an exploration update without new exploration hardware? No thanks, get that Imperial Explorer out the door already.

Maybe. :)

Otherwise.....its going to be a short stream, "Hi, here's yer new Krait and that other ship! They can do this and be equipped with this! They jump this far and look nice! Thanks for watching, Cya!" :p

Dunno it depends. Maybe other ships getting a balance pass (like orca locked sections being removed).
Maybe the viper mkiv cockpit will no longer be a clone of the MK3 same with asp ex and asp scout (this dream is too much to hope for ;) )

I wouldn't know about that. So far this year:

T10
Chieftain
Challenger
Crusader
Krait MkII
Krait Phantom
[That other new ship leaked in Beta]

7 ships released and/or leaked so far.

If there's not an exploration ship in there - the first one released for 3 years, then......I will not be happy. All year its been combat combat combat, with at least one new combat ship on the way in Chapter 4, an exploration update.

I agree there's an large Alliance ship on the way, just to give that superpower 4 ships to match up with the Feds and Imps......until the Imperial Explorer is released, I hope.

Sisko - there are 30-odd Exploration ships in the game. There is not a ship in the game that can't carry what is required for Exploration in all but the most fringe cases. I like to think that you are an intelligent person, so I'm hoping we can just skip past the Hauler's single hardpoint making it a Combat ship, and other such idiocy.

That said, I would like very much for Explorers to get some new candy, but the problem is that they can't have what they want without it becoming too good at other areas of the game. The number, and top size of the Optional Internals that they want just makes this something that can't be done without obsoleting at least half of the ships in the game in all roles. The_only_ way that I can see Explorers getting the kind of ship that they want is to make the Fuel Scoop a Core Internal on that ship, the AspX and the DBX. I would have included the Passenger ships, but the recent change to those makes this one unnecessary. If the Fuel Scoop is Core, then the Optionals can top out at size 5 (two of them, Fighter Bay and Booster), a pair of 4's (CR Racks, or a 4G SRV bay), and the rest can be smaller. Essentially, it would have the overall capability of a faster, more maneuverable Keelback with an 80ish light year jump range.

That would work - nothing else that I can think of would work. It depresses me to see people making suggestions about deliberately gimping hardpoints and such, because that kind of thinking is just so short-sighted and selfish. Ships designated for primarily Exploration can be designed as I described without impacting the rest of the game, or even gimping the Combat ability all that much. It can still Trade/Mine/Pirate, but it won't be the de-facto choice for anything other than Exploration, and even there, it would have competition in the form of the Anaconda, AspX/DBX (with Core Scoops, otherwise it would completely eclipse them both).

It just can't be done using the current Internal setup Sisko, unless Frontier designs a ship that can jump 80ish light years on a size 3 or 4 FSD. Pretty sure they aren't going to magick things that much.

I just expect more from a live-stream called New Ships. Note that it was called merely Ships earlier.

I want more then 2 new ships. Yeah, I know, I'm a greedy Commander. We know there's going to be a big passage of time between Chapter 4 and the next big update. We need new hardware to sustain us during that dark, hardware content void. :)

I'm well aware of the ships in the game, and that they can all be used for exploration. Doesn't change the fact that almost every new ship released this year has been combat focused, with military slots galore.

I'm not asking for anything silly here like a super-duper Imperial Explorer that can jump 80+ Ly and be equipped with a Class 8 Fuel Scoop. Just more specialised Explorer hardware. That's it. One ship. One. Considering the army of Chieftain variants and now another confirmed combat ship coming in Chapter 4, I don't think that's too much to ask for in the first exploration update for 4 years.

Fact: More Chieftain variants were released this year, then specialised Explorer ships in the last 4 years.

Perhaps you aren't asking for it, but they are:

Jump Range equivalent to the Anaconda. Some want higher, but most ok with equivalent.
Enough Internals to carry everything desired. That's a minimum of 8, with one of those being size 7, two need to be size 5. Are you starting to see the problem? Keep reading.
Good canopy view.
Excellent Supercruise agility.
Decent or better normal flight agility.
Decent or Excellent Thruster capability.

So, what else benefits from a ship like this? Pretty much everything, Sisko. Consider the current view of the Python, Sisko - what they want is a more nimble Python with a fighter bay (sound familiar?...) and a better canopy view (even more familiar...) that can jump with an Anaconda (damn...). Under the current Internals setup, this new ship would obsolete the Python, Sisko. Think about that.

Truth be told, the Clipper and the Krait both fit the bill quite well, they just don't jump far *enough.* Perhaps the reportedly smaller size and lack of fighter bay will allow the Phantom to jump another 10 light years or so, and bridge that gap, but now there's no fighter bay.

AHH I was unaware of the name change :)

Its funny you mention the Krait, I've brought a couple while in Colonia, one of them is an exploration ship, 55Ly range. I'm not sure if its by design, or a fluke, but the Krait is a great explorer for a multi-role ship. Jump range is important for sure, but then you're jumping past more systems and missing out of god-knows what's in them. I'm sure other players will have their own version of what makes for a good explorer ship.

I like Gutamaya hardware and yes, I could take a Clipper or a Cutter into the black. But the Imp Explorer was actually in Elite 2, and as seen with previous ships (and one ship currently flown by NPC Commanders in in Beta), Frontier are willing to resurrect old ships into this new game. As such, it boggles the mind that Frontier would do all of this great work on exploration, and then not release a new exploration ship for it (which won't be noticed among all the combat hardware released this year).

If you're worried about new exploration hardware being better than other ships, well, that's what dedicated exploration slots should be for, to keep specialised ships from being too good at roles outside their intended scope. Unfortunately it looks like Frontier are moving away from this, now that Saud Kruger have given up on the Passenger market.

PS: The Python sucks. No character. No soul. :p There's a reason I go exploring in a DBX, or a Krait. :)
