Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

But if there's more than just the two, why haven't they been spotted in the beta? Someone should have spotted them by now, no?

Why go the trouble of including two of the ships in the beta, but not the rest?

The beta has stages, all the features for Chapter 4 aren't yet available in the current test build. Likely though that if more ships are in the update they could pop up in the form of NPC ships as the test server updates with newer builds over the course of the beta.

- Someone will complain that FD are just catering to the pew pew crowd.

If someone did then they wouldn't be wrong when it comes to new ships:

T10 - combat
Chieftain - Combat
Challenger - Combat
Crusader - Combat
Krait II - Multirole

4 of the last 5 new ships have been combat with specialized military internals. The Mamba will likely make that 5 out of 6. If the Krait Phantom is yet another combat ship then it's 6 out of 7. Not to mention the 6 combat SLF's added in that time as well. Pretty hard to argue against someone saying that Frontier is catering towards the combat players with regards to new ships...

Not really expecting much more than the 2 we already know about, but kinda hope to see at least the Panther Clipper in there.

Ships I want to see at some point:
Small Alliance Fighter (Hunter?)
Medium Imperial ship (Imperial Caravel?) (SLF capable?, legacy ICourier styling?)
Redux of AspS, T6, T7, Orca. (AspS unsure how to address, but for T6, T7 and Orca, make them all land on medium landing pads)
SK Fer de Lance variant, (Luxury SK interior, frameless tinted canopy, glazed heat radiators, smoother lines, reduced armament maybe 1L-2M-2S, or just 4M, larger FSD)
Medium ZPG Freighter/Miner, (styling right between Adder and Panther)
Large Alliance combat/multirole ship (Styled like Chieftain line and Hunter with outboard engine nacelles. Armament like T10, but better PP and PD)
Large Imperial Explorer (shorter, stripped down ICutter, as per original Cutter concept artwork. loses some armament/internal volume to become top-tier explorer)
Utility SLFs (Lakon, FdL, ZPG designs?)
Racing/Scout SLFs with single gun (SK,ZPG and Guta designs?)
Assault/Bomber SLFs with single gun and torpedoes/missiles (Major Power designs?)
More SRVs (Major Power designs?)

If the panther clipper is revealed next week, then we're probably going to be getting only 3 ships; otherwise we might get the 5 or 6 people are hoping for. Why do I say that? because the one thing that makes the panther clipper special is that it doesn't fit through the mailslot. That means either it's going to be a horizons-exclusive ship (no chance of that), new trading and services game mechanics are going to be introduced so people can refuel, rearm and trade with it, or bigger stations are going to be introduced as well that a PC will fit into. Either way, that's your hour-long stream.

I kind of remember Sandro talking about their desire to revise the Asp Scout, many months ago... Can't find the source, but I am pretty sure it was said...
Would hope so. It's pretty useless as a scout on expeditions. DBX and AspX have better jump range and more slots, so the scout is pretty much junk. That's my opinion. :D

The asp scout is a Viper Mk.IV with a bigger hitbox. It needs a reason to exist at all.

Let's take a look at how many unique designs we've got for ships in the game, and that will tell us how many ships we have really and help us decide whether the roster really needs bolstering. Personally I think it does...

Small
- Sidewinder
- Eagle+
- Cobra+
- Adder
- Hauler
- Dolphin
- Vulture
- Diamondback+
- Courier
- Viper+

Medium
- Chieftain+
- Asp+
- Federal Dropship+
- Python
- Fer-De-Lance
- Type 6+
- Krait+
- Mamba?

Large
- Corvette
- Cutter
- Anaconda
- Type 9+
- Type 7
- Orca
- Beluga
- Clipper

So that's 10 small, 8 medium and 8 large distinct ship designs.
26 out of 38 ships that we know about right now are unique designs. So that's 12 variants, nearly a third of all our ships.

I think we need some more unique designs to make the variant percentage a lot less than that.

How could you possibly miss the Type-10 ... it's big enough ! :p

Cobra IV is not there either :x

I love the idea of more ships even if they overlap with existing ships variety is always good, they don't have to be brilliantly balanced as long as they do one thing well. A space ship game absolutely needs more space ships.

The clipper, type 7 and Orca should actually be medium sized ships. You also missed around 10 ships from the list.

So in reality its 14 small, 18 medium and 6 large

Maybe we need a huge class (Panther clipper??) ;)

Also the Boa could fit into the large slot. Not sure where the Moray starboat would go, but hey lets add that in too with next seasons water landing ;)

The Asp Scout is probably the least flown ship in the game. I'd bet even less than the Cobra MkIV, and that is a ship only accessible to a limited amount of the playerbase!

It needs help...badly.

It wouldn't hurt too much to lower the mass on it, to make it (maybe) the highest jump range available. After all, a scout is supposed to quickly go out and search (scouting) and not be a combat or full blown exploration. Just finding stuff for the expedition. Scouting the path or next base camp.

Alternatively, they could simply slash its price by ~2 million credits to put it into the same price range as the DBX. That way it would have the niche of very much being the "big ship on a budget", offering newer players the chance to try a more clunky but higher capacity alternative to the DBX even with early game finances. At ~1.5 million credits for the hull it would actually make a reasonable multirole ship and a good stepping stone up from the Cobra III as it is overall very similar yet offering slightly increased performance in almost every area (the only notable minus is less maximum speed).

The least flown ship according Inara is the Alliance Crusader, and rightfully though, that ship was dead on arrival, bad as it is. The Asp Scout comes a close second. It is not a Viper IV with a bigger hitbox though, it has a distributor one class higher, so in theory more fire stamina. Doesn't help the overall ship though.

Honestly the cobra mkiv makes me a little sad lore wise. For years (decades) elite players.fantasised about the iconic cobra getting a mkiv and instead when we do get the ship it is a slow total reskin with some added internals.
It's not that I hate the ship (I don't) but it is not a cobra mkIV imo. I say retool it as a cobra MK3 XL (open to all or keep exclusive I do not mind) and then release a true cobra IV available to all with all the love spent on it that the krait and original cobra iii had

If these are the Panther then they will fit through the slot. If they fit a pad, they fit the slot.

Of course I could always be wrong.

The Krait Mk II is a decent explorer, I have mine at just over 57 ly but it would be nice to have a dedicated explorer for an explorer update. It's pretty clear the Mamba is combat based but have no idea about the Phantom, the Krait variant. Anyone know anything about any kind of stats? Would love an imperial explorer though, that would be icing on the cake.
