State of VR in 3.3 Beta.

However, the new lighting and the color grading makes the game look like something completely new. The visuals are stunning, so just keep the thumbs up, that the issue is getting sorted fast :)

This for sure. I was very impressed and I didn't even have the settings maxed out, was med/high on most things just testing it out.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they have one Dev assigned to VR... that's more commitment than I imaged they had, but way less than they should have.

Poor guy indeed!

That was probably one of my comments. I mentioned to Malic_VR that VR seemed not to be a priority at all, and he said, that he didn't agree, and mentioned they have one dev specifically working on VR stuff (he recently was at Fdev along with Obsidian and the other guys from the community.)

Anybody don't like the blue wireframe room too, which is in FSS but not in DSS?

I am hoping HSS bring out an update as the new bindings for scanning and such like isn't going to work on my hotas.

I so much rely on my voice pack to play this game.

Anyone able to pick sides in CZs and scenarios? I just get 'not invited to channel' in the comms, and the choice appears when I look away. :p

Yes, I get this too. Looks like the way the scenario opens the comms panel causes it to get 'stuck'. The way around it is to activate the comms panel with a hard key press, rather using the headlook; then whatever bindings you have set on your controller will work as normal.

bumping bug reports is not advised apprently:

If you want to reply something in a bug report, it should be useful.

If FD don't want anything added to the Bug Report, they have the ability to make these forum posts a one off so nothing can be added.

I can't understand why they would not want more constructive additions to the issue. I CAN understand their point in not wanting Drivel written on the bug report posts, but this is why they have Mods, to delete the Drivel!

I think they just meant bumping for the sake of bumping accomplishes nothing. Useful additions are welcome though.

It's a bit sad that VR seems not to be really tested by FD before releasing the beta. But I'm sure they'll fix it since Elite is the most long term used VR title on the market and even I never want to go back to flat ;) And I'm not too happy with the new lightning... it looks nicer but in VR I'm missing the black of the sky - it's more grayish - and lights are producing more godrays. In the SRV the lights of the vehicle are a bit too annoying. And like with the lights, smoke nur nigtview - you can see clearly the lightning textures when turning your head. This breaks the immersion far too often =(
So besides the new scanners and planet views which are just annoying in VR and won't feel good for my eyes I hope some day two more things will get fixed in VR:
- the smoke when overheating is moving into space through the windshield as if there's no window
- when deploying or boarding a fighter or SRV some parts are in wrong depth and usually would stuck in the ship. Since 3.3 beta with a SRV in the Anaconda (what I tested so far) the whole front part of the SRV ist clipping through the bay.
I know there are more important things to be fixed but as a everyday space pilot I'm always a bit concerned about this detail you see very frequently...

Doesn't help that the flare texture on the sprites turns out to contain quite a bit of noise grain. :7

Yes, I think some more testing of VR even before a beta is a very good idea, given that ever so slight mismatches between the right and left eye channel can feel really uncomfortable. However, I am playing the game in VR exclusively and find it fantastic. The most important controls are mapped to the joystick and mouse and for text input I use touch typing, so everything is working quite well. The only occasion that can make me feel uncomfortable is the SRV. I can not stay in there for very long, even with a fixed horizon. However, the other day I had the impression that night vision improves the situation somewhat, but I have to test that out a bit more.

Thanks! So far my work-around was going to 2D, selecting sides, and then re-enabling HMD. Your is quite a bit more elegant. :)

I dont even have the wireframe in VR, or the blue blobs.

Slow reader, but I assume it's been mentioned that mirror screen is now remembering the resolution between sessions?

That would be great if that works for others... would be interested in your findings and feedback. (can't play/test the beta at the mo due to RL commitments)

Totally broken for me. AS soon as I enter scan mode the game 100% breaks. No inputs work, you can't move the camera or indeed anything else. I have to exit teh game via task manager.

Sounds like you didn't do the FSS tutorial that doesn't show up in VR and has to be run in 2D first.

This is a known bug. You are stuck on a help screen that doesn't show in VR at the moment. Either complete it in 2d, or press space / confirm / fire several times until you have "completed" the tutorial.

i hope this is fixed for release. ok i know my way around it but what about those players who do not frequent the forums.... the game is hard enough to get a handle on at the start without adding hurdles such as bugs like the above.

I'm pretty confident this will be fixed. QA was quick to identify this in the bug report forum and report it to the devs. It's going to be interesting to see what fixes they managed to get into todays build.

Hopefully some of the VR quirks where easily identified and fixed. *fingers/eyes crossed*[wacky][wacky]
