Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I don't want to be salty, I just stated a fact which I have experienced to be valid in more than 20 years playing in online games. It has always the same pattern and to expect a different outcome "this time around" would be insanity (referring to Albert Einstein's quote here).

The fact is that I think most people regard this Newcomer's Forum as a sort-of "friendly", "welcoming" place and so think twice about being contentious. Unfortunately I fail at honouring this every so often - although I try to just be helpful, I do slip from time to time so my apologies for sullying the thread with my "Engineering" observations.

P.S. I remember exactly the beta of the Engineers and yes there was an awful lot of whining about it being dialled-back on release, I thought it was mainly PvP peeps but of course I could be (and often am) entirely wrong. ;)

P.P.S. At least the "Skynet" revolt of the NPCs showed how destructive to the general populace it can be when mega-engineering runs riot. [haha]

P.P.P.S. - Returning "on topic" - I have given up messing with the cheaper "T" ships (6,7 and Keelback) in mining roles in the beta. Just going to get back to the live game and see if my latest clear-save can earn enough for his/her Python over the weekend. BTW - Is it just me or do the Community Goals seem really rubbish these past few months? I have not been able to recommend even one to newcomers for ages now.

P.P.P.P.S. - Also I am going to cut my nails to se if I can cut down on the typos.

You are one of the most helpful CMDRs here, and I STILL use the tip I learned from you when I first started, about centering the ship via the station icon!
Despite all the non-believers!
:D

Got my imp. courier out, engineerd it a bit but not made it faster or jump further just made these stronger aswell as the scanner.
I then went seek & hide in some systems and got me a mil. in one two three, that courier is so nice to fly...think i'm gonna buy me a clipper next.
Gave alot of credits to a few systems in outbreak, have to choose now...sell a few ships or do some good deeds and get some meds to some stations in need. No hard choise here, my python is already loaded with 272t meds gona be a loooong night.
Have fun!

I’m trying to gather plenty of materials in readiness for the Saud Kruger buff and the new Krait Phantom which I fancy may be my primary account explorer. Oh, um, that was going to be the reconfigured Orca. I’d better get even more materials.

I’m enjoying the Beta, to my mind there’s a lot there to enjoy but I do hope FDev listen to some of the good points raised on issues such as the blue planet grid remaining whenever you’re in analysis mode (after a planet has been probed.) With all the work done in mining and belts it’s a shame to have such an ugly mechanic remain when you’re just pottling around in the rings.

I’m avoiding using the voice acted sections of the codex, I’m trying to save those for the live version when I’m out exploring....in whichever ship I end up in:)

Oh, and I spent some of this week registering my new conglomeratated mining and transportation business at Companies House. Rock Haulage Co. has a shiny new logo and bright orange paint job on all of its mining and hauling ships, now I just need to stop utterly destroying the rocks for fun and start concentrating on profits before the suits in the Boardroom get too miffed.

I love the Courier.
Do you have Enhanced Performance Thrusters on it yet?

I'm in a bit of a pickle. As with every beta, actually.
I tried the beta. Enjoyed it a lot. Enjoyed it so much, in fact that I had to stop playing, because I want to do that in live build where it matters.
The problem is - I want to do it in the live build! So I feel totally disinterested in the "old" build and can't find the will to play any significant length of time.

So right now, I'm considering that I'm going to take a couple weeks off (until the release). That is always healthy. And then I'm probably going to clear my save and start over with all the new stuff to do and try.
There is only one problem - I SOOOOO want the Mamba! :D :D

Eh... first world problems.

LOL
My Courier does 700m/s. Suck it, Clarkson. :D :D

That is such a versatile ship too.
Now with built in ADS (and Guardian FSD boosters) it's even more so!
It's an epic little mini-explorer.

Great for combat as well.
It might be done as a miner though...
Not enough hardpoints.

:/

I've never used her for mining. Even before the changes.
But yes, to me, Courier is probably the most fun ship in the game.

I'm working on my left thumbnail. I've bashed it twice now working on one of my house remodels and the black spots are every so slowly moving up almost to clipping off range. Just glad I didn't mangle it beyond typing ability.

Neither have I.
I was just thinking of Limoncello Lizard's example, showing how silly collector limpets are, and how many the Courier can carry compared to the larger ships.
And now one needs oodles of hardpoints apparently!

My T10 awaits.

:D

I might even get mining lances just because...

My EPT iEagle took my face clean off. Canyon running with that is why I'm upgrading my PC ready for VR....ok, that and pretty much everything else in this game. The upgrades on my PC are next week giving me a few days of enforced separation followed by a load of work stuff so I'll miss playing with the new ships and maybe the end of the Beta. I'm looking foward to coming back to it and seeing whats been achieved for the Live roll out

Best decision of your life, if you ask me. Unless you are one of those unlucky once who get motion sick. I was, actually. But the VR left such an impression on me, that after some hard (almost a year-long) thinking I bought the VR, anyway and in the end I got over it. The only place I get a bit motion sick, now, is the SRV, but fortunately you can "switch off" the rocking and thrashing by locking the view to the horizon, which is great.
But yeah, you'll see. Once you've put the headset on, you will never put it off. :D

....and that last sentence is what worries me Chris:D Well, that and trying to use a keyboard in VR;)

Very much looking forward to an experience that as a child I probably only dreamt about, being in a video game.

Visited beta again.

Man, that explo stuff is confusing. About time I read up on how it works instead of fumbling blindly :D Planet probes? Whaaaa... yeah, RTFM time.

Mind you, with all the key binds ED now needs, a second keyboard might not be a bad idea...

hm, when i check how many keys i really use on a regular basis, those are 28 - I really underestimated the amount of keyboard input I use.

I've been considering a gaming keypad to put on the left side of the throttle. The missus told me to stop considering it. A nice RGB type Razer would be cool and it would match this gaming keyboard I have. Unfortunately she's not too impressed with "cool"....

Hehe, actually, alongside my current FCS HOTAS, I'm seriously thinking about dusting off my old x56 throttle that I have left after I destroyed the stick. Not that I need a second throttle, but it has a lot of switches. :D

I think that even more people will start using Voice Attack, now

You want this:

For some reason they seem a bit pricey now they were 50 squids when I bought them. Great for Flight Sims and they work a treat in E D - an absolute life-saver really with the fighter and camera muck.

There is a thread (some threads) about fitting active displays to them or just bespoke inlays.
