Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Later? The offer is just valid for 1.5 days iirc. So either i do it, or I simply ignore it.

That sounds like the Palin Thargoid materials mission, not the actual engineer invite.

You'll only get the Palin invite after you unlock/rep up Marco Qwent and travel 5Kly from start.
You get the material missions after docking at Obsidian Orbital.

Btw how do I explore the found stellar objects - do I fly to them and use the discovery scanner or do I need something else?

The "unexplored" designation will go away after you scan them with your ship scanner, simply lock onto the body.
Using a DSS will give you the material data etc, and higher payouts.
That's all about to change however...

Yeah the first contact with Palin, he sent me a message after I arrived in Obsidian Orbital - which is as well the mission turn in location.

I will get a surface scanner - I want to do it at least once completely. I have seen the dev video and Para Handy has shown as well how this works in videos. But I want to do it at least once in the old way, that I can compare both later on.

Ah ok, that's the missions.
They tend to pay pretty decently, but they may have been nerfed.

You can get the mats at the nearby crashed Thargoid scout ship, but scanning that thing so you don't have to re-find it via coordinates each time, is kind of difficult.

I ended up backing up into the crashed ship and flipping my SRV on its nose, since the data point is under ground, lol!

As I will stay a while in the area here, I have now 4 of my ships in transfer - not really cheap - nearly a million for 4 ships, but once they are here, that million is earned back in like 10 minutes. Transfer time 1 hour and 28 minutes - so I'll have to wait now. Btw, there is just one decent shipyard nearby - Pleiades Sector DL-Y d65 - it has just one lonely station orbiting it's only sun in about 1.6 times the distance the earth has from it's sun. Rather dull system, but due to it being the only shipyard which has as well a high tech outfitter, it's a pretty busy system. There is no other like this in a radius of about 80ly. This is what EDDB is really good for, to figure stuff like this out.

Well I trade chemical manipulators for these when I need them, CMs are a G4 material so 6 of those for one PI. CMs are lying about at Davs Hope to scoop up - so much easier than trading other G5 mats (and cheaper considering how many mission credits you have to give up per Exquisite Xtal).

Since you get 3 each time, that's actually only 2 "finds" : 1 PI.

That's not a bad way in this case even though I generally suggest avoiding trading up.
Some missions hardly take a credit hit that said.

To be honest, I haven't really explored the places to pick up PI's so the CM exchange sounds like the plan I'll be running with. Cheers chaps!

Thank heavens for Dav's and mat traders!

Now to collect enough to G5 my Vulture and Krait... have 0 PIs so, work to be done - busy, busy, busy.

In one way, you were lucky - I had tons of interdictions en route back :(

On the other hand... well, we'll see how Lysette fares :D

Yes agreed - I went to Maia for the Meta Alloys in a T6, and the journey home was tense to say the least. Interdictions/fuel scooping/not many star ports/no weapons can be a thrill ride.

I'm waiting for chapter 4. ATM, my main question is wether or not to ditch all my fleet and keep only my Corvette, or ditch everything but the Krait and the DBX... So yeah, first world problems xD

And I secretly hope Frontier will come up with a limpet controller working like a refinery, but instead of bins, you chose which limpet you want. And limpet would get printed, much like SLF. One can only dream!

Choice of ship is the hardest bit of the game, for me. I never sell a ship, so have them all dotted around, but thought I would try to keep an active roster of three - small, medium and large. Cobra, Clipper and T10 are my choices, so engineering the three of them is the current aim. Started with the Cobra as I'm a little financially embarrassed at the moment.

However, I miss my Courier and T7, have never flown a Cutter or a Corvette (and suspect I'd love at least one of them) and doubt I will be able to resist a Mamba. So I'm all at sea.

Yeah, Maia is kind of the center of an isle with more or less densely inhabited systems stretching out around 75ly from Maia - around this inhabited sphere is basically a "layer" of pretty dull and uninhabited systems which is nearly 100ly "thick" before one finally might get in contact to civilization again. This is about how I imagine the local region around Maia gathered from information whilst playing around with EDDB.

That was certainly my experience! I left a mini fleet there and have shipped various components down there to A rate them. Took an age! Worth it for the Thargoid sightings, though.

Well, it wasn't that extraordinary but I didn't want to splurge a spoiler for those yet to experience the horror, the cold sweat, the worry of a rebuy, the wondering of how in the name of Elvira's girdle am I I going to get out of this...

Ok, now I've overown it. It was my first and only hyperdiction :D

I don't even know what that is, but want to thank you for your discretion. I'll dip out of this thread for a few pages to avoid any spoilers. You're a gent! (Rep'd)
