Fuel Dump Button Please.

fuel is stored in a tank, you can't just magically pull out canisters form your butt, ... like DSS probes since fuel is not made of handwavium.

I wouldn't have a problem if we were to dump it without canisters (like real planes do), after all, I rather have fine control of the fuel dumping since 1 ton of difference can be too much or too little in some scenarios.

Why when on can choose how much fuel to add to their ship via the "Advanced Maintenance Screen", located on the far left bottom of the service screen; Would anyone need to dump fuel.

I accept a mission, note it's mass, add enough fuel to make the trip via the Advance Maintance Screen. Then plot my route, if I can't plot it becasue of the amount of fuel is insufficent, one can add as much more as one needs or choose the economy route. Learned the hard way that large ships can't always leave planet bases not enter hyper if there too heavy for the fsd to handle and had to abandon cargo at times. Someone here long ago, informed me of the ability to add as much or little via the Advance Maintance Screen, and I've not had a problem since.
The times I appreciated having the rail gun with fuel slug to dump fuel was when I was 30,000 ly away from the nearest station. Can't really decide to fly back 5000 stars to control the fuel level and fly back out again and realize that it didn't help. :D

+1. One button is wa-a-a-ay better than 20 clicks to dump 1 ton with plasma slug railgun.

And I can add: we had that button back in 1993 :)
Oh, so you had that famous "Insta-Win" button back then? Guess you only played the game for 5 minutes, and pressed that button to win every time! :D

But seriously, if fuel dump was there in that version, then fuel dump belongs to the lore. It has to be added.

Your mate operates the A330? He will tell you that the bulk of them don't have fuel dump capability, you have to circle to dump fuel or follow the overweight landing procedure. You have a jettison on the A340 because the take off weight is normally a lot higher than the max landing weight.

@Op - Fully agree, shouldn't be hard to implement either now that the game mechanic is in place.

One is first officer A330/A340 and she is in training for certification on the A350. Another (last I checked) was 777's and 747's (Captain).

Please can we have a fuel dump button.

Yes this gets asked a lot and no, we still don't have one. It was suggested that we can use a Rail Gun to achieve the same effect but you must go to an engineer to get the ammunition, magic spell or whatever to make it use fuel. I know that the mere mention of the wizards will summon the russian chat bots to derail the thread but hopefully this plea will be heard before the inevitable lock.

Come on, most of us remember syphoning fuel from cars for...er … emergency reasons. It's a simple one.... Come on..... please....

I was waiting for 3 year for front lights HUD indicator and it's finally there in Chapter 4! Be praised Mr. Adam Woods!:D

Be patient my friend. I'm assuming Chapter 8?

Absolutely, and I am. Very. Hopefully it's on the quick win list. I mean, the code is already there. It's just the partial fill that needs placed in the right panel with a minus value instead.

How about being able to dump fuel right out the rear and igniting it ? (Star Trek online kind of has this with venting warp plasma) - very handy combat\escape tactic.

How would that be a 'handy combat/escape tactic' considering a ship can fly through the upper reaches of a star (to fuel scoop), having some flame behind your ship isn't going to damage or really do anything to another ship. It sure a heck won't make your ship invincible to a weapons lock or anything like that. In fact the only thing that should happen is your ship's temperature rises (just like when you scoop fuel).

As someone who spent flying on fumes for more than a year straight, yes, I approve the dumping thing.

The curent way takes no skill. Almost 100% of the times where I found in the situation of wanting a bit less fuel I either waited if the amount was only a bit (AFK... so much skill) or just used a shot of jumponium (takes a lot of skill too... you need to know how to find the right panel).

You made it through the AFK, though... Staying awake is a sk

There're those fuel limpets that can be used to help other players. The Fuel Rats use them. Those are canisters from the ship-butt with fuel taken from your own ship.

yes but those come from the fuel limpet internal I would guess.
it would make more sense when the ships kinda have to align in a correct way to trasnfer fuel.

Yep, asked for it myself some years back, and yep people shoot it down with But why would you?

It's an advanced precision jump mechanic, don't worry your little heads about it.

Yes I do but you seem to be ignoring it as well as other players. I think it more on the line players are not Monitoring the amount of fuel they are using. When they get too much and they whine. Because they made a Mistake. We can take my Anaconda. Full 52.44 With less Fuel I can jump 54.55. Managing that Longer Range requires skill. it, not a hard skill to learn. It not a fuel dump option.

If you want to fill your fuel tank but not overfill. Use the edge of the Star and fill it slowly not close to the star and fill it in 10 seconds. then when you get to a new location and go OH NO I have to much FUEL.

Note I tend to fly at the edge in one of my accounts. I don't have much of an issue. I don't have to fly 15 Minutes because I played stupid.
Then tell us of the in-game means to calculate your fuel usage over several jumps? Oh wait, there is none. So all we have is, we can take an educated guess, which ends (if failed) in either back tracking or waiting in order to "waste" fuel. Both are not ideal options.

But seriously, if fuel dump was there in that version, then fuel dump belongs to the lore. It has to be added.

There is a kind of hitch in the game mechanic. In E2 and FEE there were no fuel tanks, fuel was treated as just another type of cargo. For jumps and for regular flight we could pour it to the internal fuel tank right from cargo bay. So we could, for example, scoop it at the nearest star and then carry to the station and sell at market as one of the goods.

Now we have specialized fuel tanks we can install instead of cargo racks. And we can fill fuel either from the star or at special maintenance screen at station.

And that could even seem logical if we didn't have such an atavism as "Hydrogen Fuel" commodity which we can buy at market and which we can carry in usual cargo racks and which we still can't pour to our fuel tanks despite the fact, that it is actually the very same fuel that we scoop :)
