Fuel Dump Button Please.

Not against the idea, probably wouldn't use it myself but can see others would. What I can see is the Fuel Rats suddenly being a lot busier. If we have Commanders now who run out of fuel or jump into systems they can't get out of, how many noobs are going to hit the button at the wrong time and then blame FD? Forum will be a busy place methinks :D

Isn't that a wonderful side-effect? :D

Right now it skilled base. But if you have fuel dump everyone would be flying Max jump range all the time Which is an I win Button. Elimanates Skill.

So you are a player that makes mistake and complaining because you made a mistake and want a I win Button.

Can't really envisage a time when I would use this feature but it sounds like a good idea and would be useful for extreme explorers. Not really seeing much of a downside.

If you need to make it skill based you could have it so the longer you hold the button the more fuel is dumped, rather than specifying an amount. This would be like when you put petrol in the car and try to get the amount to end in 00 but inevitably end up just over 😁. Then again I don't think this would really be needed; as others have said, the skill would be doing the calculations.

For ships with enhanced thrusters, the ability to dump fuel would make a very large difference to combat performance. For medium G5 DD ships that are already heavy the difference is literally negligible (1 or 2 mps top speed). I support the option existing, though.

Au contraire!

I've often wanted to max out a jump by dumping fuel but I don't have the patience for plasma slug or just sitting there buring it, so I never have.

This could make a great difference for cutting down jumps on cargo hauling missions.

Please can we have a fuel dump button.

Yes this gets asked a lot and no, we still don't have one. It was suggested that we can use a Rail Gun to achieve the same effect but you must go to an engineer to get the ammunition, magic spell or whatever to make it use fuel. I know that the mere mention of the wizards will summon the russian chat bots to derail the thread but hopefully this plea will be heard before the inevitable lock.

Come on, most of us remember syphoning fuel from cars for...er … emergency reasons. It's a simple one.... Come on..... please....

By the twelve Gods, this would be so awesome.
Also would increase the Fuel Rats workload by 5736530%

Want, +1!

On one hand I agree with the OP.
When exploring space where stars are thinly spread, being able to jettison some fuel would be really really great.
Ofcourse you could synth a basic jump but it's not worth it if you only needed to jump 0.30 ly further than your current max range.

On the other hand you can just fuel up to a quarter tank or less and be on your way again.
When fringe exploring it's THE thing to keep your eye on.

I recently mapped a large area some 12-1500ly south of the bubble covering about 1500 ly.
The average distance between the stars was between 60 and 68 ly. (in a 67.xxLY DBE)
And boy did I hone my fuelscooping skill during that time.

In conclusion: Git gud at it cmdrs. It's a rewarding experience.

Yeah lets start talking about fuel dumping in the last week of beta..

We have been talking about this for nearly 4 years, run a search.

@o2thaZ - Whilst fuel management is important to learn (from freighter cmdrs, combat cmdrs seeking optimum ship performance, right up to Explorers) there is nothing to get gud at unfortunately. Fuel jettison is a basic QoL.

Yes i know, im part of the people that want it. But isnt it a better idea to intensify the asking at the start of the beta..

Yes, but we all know the devs aren't going to implement it anyway, at least not till a future update. Think the OP is just posting another reminder.

Yeah, because AFK is a skill. This community is weird.

I certainly think we should have some more fuel management options.
Fuel dumping, forced manual refuel of the drive tank.. These both seems reasonable to me.

The drive tank thing annoys the heck out of me - if I'm exploring and want to fully top up at a star I simply can't without waiting for the drive tank to burn down.

Yep. Just a reminder. Pretty excited for the next update. This was driven by my Phantom load out experiments.

As long as we can then set it on fire with lazors while it spirals and arcs in zero G through the vacuum of space - sure.

I'd like to see a "dump fuel into afterburner" option. Pretty much along the same lines and would achieve OPs want, but would also add a bit of a twist for all types of pilots.
EX1. Dump fuel to burn longer in a duel. Manage it properly or your opponent will now have an advantage over you.
EX2. Dump fuel to burn it off for a longer jump. Requires precise timing to avoid burning too much.
EX3. Desperately dump fuel to avoid smashing into the ground in your T9 because you thought you could land on the high gravity planet and are suddenly realizing that it's not going to be possible and you should just leave. Hopefully you aren't going too fast for a fuel dump to stabilize your somewhat rapid decent.
EX4. Like NOS for the racers.
