So, what i'm hearing here is, as long as CIG deliver something that's playable, its ok and excuses the years of bombastic hype?
Okaaay.
Could it be that is has dawned on them that the BDSSE that was sold is just a pipedream?

No, as long as they deliver the bombastic spiritual continuation of Wing Commander they have presented AND give it the BDSSE treatment then it's a good START. And the bombastic hype better deliver within SQ42.
After that they can tinker on the MMO section as much as they want but that part was not what i primarily backed the kickstarter for.
I want SQ42 as a Wing Commander for this century (well, i wanted it for this DECADE but i guess that was too optimistic).
EDIT: And im merely saying that AT THE TIME of the kickstarter it would not surprise me if the bar was a bit lower before Elite, NMS and now X4 and some others on the way...
and still nothing remotely resembling the original game pitched, never mind the expanded version.
We may not have 100 star systems yet, but just wandering around this one star system is more content than almost every game that has detail to this level,” Chris described.
“I can see why someone who doesn't understand development or the industry would think there were issues."
By the way, the bombastics are still going on...

You know...at most i could get the idea that they have a basic pipeline system and that they have a database by now of all the systems (due to the star system tool they showed years ago or something)
So they take their time on the FIRST system to see how they can do things and what goes slowly and what goes fast because what has been rather clear is that they have been prototyping most of the stuff they are finally doing.
So by now, they should have ALL the data already compiled on each system in regards to what should be there, stations, planets, moons, planetary locations and all that jazz.
But even WITH that, even if they procedurally generated everything it would still be a cleanup operation that is gigantic of fixing glitching areas, npc's and polish areas that looks rough due to procedurally generated terrain. not to mention adding areas that are more handcrafted. And we are talking about 10-15 thousand locations in total, at least.
So on a fast day...say 2 systems per month...that's still... 50 months. Ok, lets assume some system are EMPTY, like a sun and some shake'n'bake asteroid bases and rest stops. So we remove 20 of them. That's still around...40 months. That's about 3 years.
And sure, it's possible that they have artists working on other systems and planets in tandem with the SQ42 team so they might shorten the time. It's still gonna take time.
And this is only if they have something like their ship pipeline, which i doubt. After all, selling ships makes money and planets, not so much...
Quality gameplay report for Sasparilla on the SA forums.
That sure sounds like fun to me.
You do realise you just made all that up don't you?![]()

There you go! Great idea! Time to start selling planets CIG!
If you can charge hundreds or even thousands for ships, just imagine how much you could sell planets for!
Now that's just false. If they add bug-free, gameloopy, 144 FPS, VR, 100 system game, I think 99.99 % of nay-sayers will admit they were wrong - sandworms and mods and private servers are stuff akin to Elite's offline mode; most people don't care aside of angry zealots. Tbh, if they manage some-bugs, gameloopish (as in all promised types of play in some working way), 60 FPS (on majority of systems), VR, 10 system game, I will be impressed and might correct my view (still won't play, FPS doesn't interest me, but I'll think differently of it).
The problem with this list is, of course, that currently it seems that it will take some... 10 - 20 more years?
Truly a gifted individual.
I’m not gifted enough to enjoy that kind of thing. I’m too fond of Wheaton’s Law to even think of doing something like that to other human beings, which is why I reserve my villany for NPCs. I must admit it was amusing to read, in a dark humor sort of way.
Quite a creative manouevre!
Got me wondering - I think the pilot used to be invulnerable once in the seat - yet he got headshot - presumably he was up and about if that's still the case.
Also I saw something on SA that mentioned commandos are invulnerable whilst emoting. Does this mean some could setup a macro to run a crapton of emotes (lots of salutes naturally) and then stand there in a middle of a firefight unharmed?

I kind of have to wonder if Chris is simply allergic to reality, the way he shies away from it with such vehemence and dedication.
Nope. I shot a perma saluting space commando square in the teeth for inserting his person onto my ship uninvited. It was more work trying to dump his corpse out of the back door by repeatedly running into it.
I cursed CiG for the grave error of not including thermal grenades or at least some Molotovs so I could have set his corpse ablaze to further demonstrate my irritation at the impromptu invasion.
Personally i would not be against the nice laser trip mines in Duke Nukem and the old classic Claymore mine with an IFF detection system against uninvited intruders.
Also, hand held tractor beams to eject people away from my stuff.
That would add at least 3 more years to the games development.![]()
