GO AWAYIts a video game with spaceships in it and lasers that stop at 3km. Now it looks and feels nicer, don't worry about it.

Then why bother to advertise it that all solar systems in your galaxy are created from first principles, realistically model our own solar system including historical space probes and pay hommage to renowed scientist and sci-fi authors? Its a video game with spaceships in it and lasers that stop at 3km. That's like complaining about the color of your sofa and painting your whole living room red so it doesn't stand out as much. But it somewhat offsets the facts that we still don’t have hud colors on console.
GO AWAY
To anyone still being in denial that this is anything more than a simple color filter or shader effect and that it would be "impossible" to implement a simple toggle:
Enter the galaxy map. Exit the galaxy map. Watch how the game tints your screen. This is cartoony as frick and doesn't fit ED. This belongs in Call of Duty IW or something arcady like Everspace.
i dont know why..
all those competing unrealistic space games put in colorfull backgrounds. as if you are jumping from one dense nebula to another.
elite dangerous dev put an RGB filter over the whole scene to change the mood...
So a global color tint that is applied to everything in a scene, even if that scene is supposed to be infinite (i.e. space and not colorable by definition) and suddenly cuts off once you get a certain distance from the local star is an "effective improvement"? I usually grant people a certain amount of slack in their conscious denial of reality, but this is neither effective nor an improvement no matter how you look at it. It's badly implemented, along with the other bugs present in the current iteration of the "new" lighting system.I don't think anyone's denied its a simple but effective improvement, people just disagree on it being either really funky or hurtful to immershun.

No, it's not. It's obejectively wrong to have the effect suddenly cut off, among other things. Going by your reasoning every graphical bug could be labeled a feature that certain people just don't 'get'. Again, i usually cut people a certain amount of slack in their concious denial of reality, but somewhere along this line this stops being about aestehtics and starts being about denying reasonable criticism because FDev can do no wrong. They can. Look at the bug forum. Its an entirely subjective aesthetic thing. Nobody is in denial different people just have different opinions and you will frequently experience that in a forum, its pretty much what they are for.

In fairness, stig aint no white knight. He's a track record of calling out FD goofs when he sees them. In this case he's just giving the aesthetics which he likes a higher importance than the impact to visual realism. It's a fair opinion, even though I think he's talking out his bum.
Again, your reasoning amounts to relabeling bugs as features. The current lighting system is bugged, check the bug forum and check how the game applies bloom and tint effects. I'd count the sudden cut-off as one of those bugs, along with the over-/undersaturation you get when you enter cockpit view.Nope that's not how subjective opinions work.
X-wing Alliance didn't tint the skybox, it only tinted acutal objects as far as i can remember, and it didn't tint the HUD either. But i guess it's hard to see past that nostalgia.Did you ever play x-wing alliance ?, that had a similar system dependent colour filter. I had a nostalgia hit when I first logged into beyond probably from that and I genuinely like it.

Like i said, concious denial of reality only get's you so far - somewhere along the line you have to acknowledge that not everything FDev introduces is gold, and criticising bugged features is necessary to get them fixed.
I'd simply point you to the bug forum, but i guess the irony would be lost on you.I won't source your opinion for you[...]That's only real inside your head.
