The Star Citizen Thread V10

I m not sure what a game like Star Citizen would ve cost originally (I doubt CRoberts does or did) and while the 200 millions are probably wrong its the only number we have so lets use that.

I'm convinced that CIG (without Crobear and his cronies at the helm) or any other developer would have at least been able to deliver SQ42 for the 65 million or both SQ42/SC for the allleged 200 million dollars.
Crobear can't deliver and he won't deliver, he was way out of his league right of the start. The guy is a dazzler and he always was.

About Star Commutizen, also remember that Chris probably saw Cyberpunk and all of a sudden he was struck by an awesome never done before idea...

You're wrong, released projects like kcd and battletech (and others like poe or divinity OS perhaps) were exactly like he said, only partial funding from the crowdfunding platform that doubled as reassurance toward other investors.

And that is actually the norm in crowdfunded games for the AA or bigger games, only the tiny indie games that fully funded by Crowdfunding.

cayman island games is an exception in this case.

It does, however, take a big brass pair to sell off your crowdfunded company for personal gain whilst continuing to crowdfund the company.

The man is a total {REMOVED BY SWEAR FILTER}.

LAOLZ! When I saw the CP2077 trailer I thought exactly that "Oh! let's see what Croberts gonna add on top of SC this time..."

Only if keeping the original KS promise. The addition of a complete FPS game, all kinds of "life simulator" etc. during the additional feature creep (after the rigged vote..) loaded the camels back a bit too much.

It's interesting to note that CP2077 has no commuting or trains... (or maybe as background objects ?)

No, but it the has the idea of a full sized city. Crobbler can't do that, but he can do the Circle Line.

Edit: It's not even that, it's the Piccadilly Line loop that runs around Heathrow Airport.

This.
As I wrote

"Oh! let's see what Croberts gonna add on top of SC this time..."

I meant it at face value.
CP2077 brought a TRULY never seen before realism and immersion in city life. That tickled my funny gland and I started projecting how that would impact other games in development.
:) And which game is the archetype of "in development"?

I wouldn't mind so much if he'd put the airport in. But there's less explorable ground in Lorville than there is in LHR Terminal 2.

Procedural city? lol
Procedural city my moist crevice.

Interesting Guard Frequency retweet of the new CIG Director talking about the new black: Equity crowdfunding.

https://twitter.com/GuardFreq/status/1075496045205962753?s=20

Edit: Not very clear from the article if the required financial audits need to be made public or not?

Equity crowdfunding? Is this just a fancy term for milking backers for all they can spare?

Direct link to the article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/howardmarks/2018/12/19/what-is-equity-crowdfunding/#487641953b5d

Interesting quote:

How many credit cards can a founder open before overextending their ability to pay on time?

Well, i don't think in this case CR had to open his own credit cards, i think he opened the cards of the backers :D

Which is pretty much what the article is about.

Selling the promise of a product and getting other people to fund it. Delivering that product isn't actually discussed.

[haha] tldr;

"Raising money is hard. Fortunately you now have other options! Why bother trying to secure capital from venture capitalists who actually know stuff and care were their money goes, or listing on the stock market where pesky analysts can see your pipedream vision for what it is, when you can sucker marks with literally more money than sense into funding your pension!"

I am 100% prepared to guarantee that this "model" of financing wasn't even a fever dream in economists' ballsacks until Star Citizen came along. Roberts is right! He is a trailbreaker!

dude, as bootcha stated in his sunk cost galaxy video series, this this has happened in the 19th century with the oil industry.

Well, it's better than "pledging". For your money you get equity, i.e. shares which are control and ownership of part of the company. You get to see the annual figures (may vary in legislations), can attend AGM and ask pesky questions.

For a "pledge" you get nothing.

Hopefully Crobears trains are more in time than any train to Manchester Oxford Road.
