Bset Mining Ship?

Dangriswold, dropship is a fine mining vessel. It's what I use usually. I have bigger ships but dropship has that industrial feel and look that I think is appropriate for mining in dangerous places.

I have used them all. I would say that overall the python is better at mining due to the extra speed and good cargo, but I always go back to the Vette for serious deep core. It is engineered, so has dirty drives for some speed and manoeuvrability improvements. I like to do long sessions and having 360+ tones of space is so worth it at the moment for deep core trips. I stay in the hot spot for the evening and fill er up.
and of course it still has big teeth.

In the long game I think the vette will shine as we have to move out further and further as the inner core hotspots are depleted. Having all the cargo space will make a long trip worth it. Being able to come back with 1/2 a billion in your hold and still not fear being killed is a pretty big plus.

I've just kitted my AspX for core mining, figuring it would be a good starter over my Python in case I do something dumb like blow myself up. Not the greatest cargo space, but the hardpoints are placed nicely. Once I get comfortable with it, I'll probably go back to my Python.

I am finding my Krait II a very effective ship for mining. Nimble enough to get around, holds 128T (plus 8 in the bin - did that last night, handed in 136T of Opal for a total profit of 225,743,272cr :D )

For large pad, Clipper. For med pad, python. For small, either Cobra IV if you've got it, or Viper IV.
They used to say the Clipper was a very good mining ship; but that was before all these 'Python' clone ships came out.

IMO if you have the budget for it, yes. It's what I use. Enough room for every mining toy, even two collector limpet controllers, weapons and storage space for miles, with more than enough power to run it all. I even have room for a fuel scoop, an FSD booster; I still run out of limpets and have to synthesize some before I run out of room for cargo.

Yesterday, an NPC Mamba interdicted me leaving a mining area with 100 tons of void opals in the cargo racks. I melted it. o7

How are you with the T10 are dealing with the offset sismic charger and sub surface? I am always struggling finding the target, because they are far off the center. Will turrets work better on the T10?

Regardless of ship type, I find subsurface mining tedious.

My Python has an engineering maxed power plant and distributor. The distributor does not run down.

This means either a pair of Class 2 mining lasers, plus an abrasion blaster, or a seismic charge blaster in the chin hardpoint of the Python. The abrasion blaster is more common to use, the siesmic blaster is for going after the loot box rocks. This leaves you with the two upper Class 3 hardpoints for combat. The pulse scanner can be used to find a start point. I generally work with the star behind me, moving toward the GG. This avoids previously worked areas. I also start from the outside of the ring, so I have a constant reference, and am not losing drones to collisions in dense areas. It keeps me, and my targets in the light.

Your drone supply is key. Conserve the collector drones for adjacent rocks, to maximize efficiency. This may mean giving up distant gold rocks, as you will run down the collectors fuel. You need at least six working collectors. I use 2 5A's, because of collector range. A 3A prospector is the minimum, as gold rocks may spawn at great distances. One max shield, a 4A refinery, and the rest in cargo. This gives me 136 tons to split. I generally buy no more than 70 drones, as the two Class 2's work fast. Nothing is more frustrating than to overbuy, than dump drones when the refinery and hold fill up. Under buying is almost as bad, but you will not have dumped drones.

The Cobra 4 is similar. It is limited by cargo hold. Forty tons is all you can hope for. Don't buy a seismic charge blaster for the Cobra 4. Keep the Class 2 weapon mount for a weapon. It's a locked ship, but the perfect small pad miner. Use a 3A refinery, and a maxed distributor.

If you own an Anaconda, you can do whatever you want...

I notice you have a Refinery on board you loadout.

Do you still need to refine the new stuff from core mining or do you keep the refinery for standard mining?

Yes. Deep core mining releases material fragments just like the original lasers, so you need to refine them.

Seismic charge splits asteroid - abrasion blaster knocks fragment off of exposed asteroid interior - collector limpet collects fragment - refinery refines fragment.

As for the OP question - depends on the type of mining you fancy. I retrofitted my combat Krait II to test Deep Core mining and it's pretty good. Seismic & Drill in the size 2 hardpoints provides great aspect for firing those fussy missiles. Turreted Abrasion Blaster in the central size 3 hardpoint is also a great placement, and looks absurdly tiny in outfitting. DSS, 3A Prospector controller, 3A Collector controller, 4A Refinery, Size 5 fighter hanger, 5c Bi-weave, 2x 6 cargo racks. Pulse Scanner, plus 3 Sheild Boosters, and 2 large APA's for good measure. Sure, that's only 128t of cargo, but when your getting 250,000Cr / ton for the new core materials... That's 32 million credits in a well fast well defended mining rig.

Edit: No, I don't have a fuel scoop, but I was doing this close enough to a nearby port - where I stored a fuel scoop and Guardian FSD booster for the trip home.

Turrets only work in multi crew if I recall. Otherwise just function as fixed.

I have the same issue with the T10, but I'm finding I get used to the offset pretty quickly.

I have a mining fleet - Cutter for Metallic, T9 for Ice, and a Python for core mining. I was using a Krait for the latter but the Python will be used since it has more cargo and collector controllers.

Oh, I also have a Cobra MKIV for core mining.

Lakon Type-9 has always been, and always will be(unless FDev releases another ship more suited for mining in-lore) the best mining ship.
