Used the FSS once. It was so boring, fiddly and tedious that I resolved immediately to never leave the bubble again, lest I need to use it a second time.
...or now it's out on general release, more people have tried it, and more have come to a conclusion?Good grief. So a content creator on youtube complains about the FSS because it slows down his way of making real world cash (finding places so he can do some "filming" to sell as content on his channel) and scores of "players" yell and scream with the same problem and arguments.
I guess either a lot of you are "content creators" in secret or you're REALLY invested in your training wheels, or it's a result of 90% of the posters not actually playing the game but coming on here to complain and troll.
The latter is rather indicated by the abandonment of the earlier "complaint" that "I can't find things in FSS that I could in ADS, this mode just slows me down!!!" to "The FSS shows far more stuff IT is the 'godmode' LOLOLOLO!", plus the general ignoring of ANY pst or suggestion on what could be done, since "the only acceptable answer" is "Give back the ADS!" with nothing about how to do it without ruining the FSS's use. No pretense at getting what you're "missing" into the FSS as it is, improving it. Just "I WANT MY ADS!!!".
Plus the high count of posters during christmas.
So, yeah, fairly convinced that 90% of the posters complaining don't play elite, they just play the forums.
…
Note: The fact it gives you points of interest on a planet immediately it of course great, but that's beside the point on the merits of the new mechanics IMHO.
Personally I'm just a bit myeh about it. It feels a bit contrived and clunky to me (lining up circles in a self contain view/mini-game), so I'm on the fence if it's actually a move forward.

Clunky, not as in controls, but overall gameplay loop/outcome. ie: Lining up circles on top of blue blobby circles and pressing a button to "zoom"... etc... etc...I do wonder how many feel it's clunky because they are playing on PC with a mouse handy. I'm on a console, so "lining things up" via a controller is just how we do things. I've read other posts where people seem to lament that they can't just point-n-click on the planets to zoom in on them. Do you PC folk have to "steer" the focal point (circle) in order to select a planet, even with a mouse? If so, I can see why that would cause frustration.

At some point a mechanic is contrived enough to be questionable. Not sure if this is... but as I said, I'm pretty myeh about it.
And given you're taken away from the core gameplay experience (the cockpit), into a stand alone mini-game to do all this, surely that should mean it needs to be worthwhile? And to me I'm not sure it is, and given I can't even supercruise somewhere and make use of my "valuable time" in the FSS, just underlines this feeling... And then we can't even view the system map from within the FSS? How did that never some up during FDs internal testing? Why is it still not there?
Anyone else noticed how the discovery of biological POIs is nearly instant while geological ones can take up to 30 seconds to finish?

While there are at least a few choir members in this thread who will say "amen" to your preaching, I'm not one of them. I don't agree with anything you've written. Nothing personal.
You don't agree that the system map should be available from the FSS?
I'm surprised, I thought that one would be universal.
Careful, or you'll make it sound like I'm opposed the having the system map callable from the FSS. I'm not, but until this recent post, I never even gave it any thought. The FSS is my system map when I'm using it - it gives me orbit lines, planet types, distances, positions, everything I need to know about the system. It even lets me select a planet to fly to. The only thing it doesn't give me, which I believe is a bug, is whether a planet is terraformable or not.
Do you people even know how to use the FSS?
Let's test thatWhile there are at least a few choir members in this thread who will say "amen" to your preaching, I'm not one of them. I don't agree with anything you've written. Nothing personal.
Well you did say that you disagreed with everything
Since the orrery is something that people have been asking for forever, and finally got it as part of the exploration 'upgrade' it seems reasonable that people would expect it to be integrated into the FSS, no?
No. But thanks for asking
I can cope with the extra effort in closing the FSS and opening the Sysmap, even if it does take a button push or two, but then my fortitude is legendary![]()
Let's test that![]()
You don't agree that you should be able to enter the system map (view) while using the FSS?
