Forced gameplay?

I can't even play against chunkylord buffed AI anymore without blowing a fuse and ragequit or ram the crap out of them. Why even bother installing peashooters? At least ramming gets the job done but returning all the time for the g repairs is simply too tiring.

Then instead of complaining on the forum, try to practice and work on your gear. I got around 2000 h in game and I destroy Elite Anacondas in a Vulture without ever losing my shields (428 Mj and no SCBs btw...)

You people amaze me... instead of doing what's necessary to ease your "pain" you call for injustice and ask somebody else to fix it for you...

Do yourself a favor and either roll with it and help yourself or go play an arcade shooter with no challenge and insta-reward-ez-mode...

I dont get why everyone uses the "FSS is better because, You don't have to fly your ship to the planet" argument.
You do still have to fly your ship to the planet to interact with said planet using the Surface scanner, to land on it to see it close up in its true beauty (or not). and Signal sources tend to appear around planetary bodies.

I can totally understand why some people want the old HONK mechanic back so they can say they explored without having to do sweet FA. Heaven forbid you you actually have to do something in this game, if you find using the FSS tedious then may i suggest that maybe exploring is not for you and you should not go exploring.

You get everything you need to complete missions from Honking so you only need to use the extra FSS stuff to find Signal sources and get the names of the planets (you can always just fly to the signal sources and resolve them manually if you hate the FSS that much).

My only gripe with the FSS is that i have to be in Supercruise to use it, and i have to be stopped, other than that i don't mind it too much.

No, only a few say that :)

The FSS is only the first baby step to be able to go somewhere in the knowledge there is something there worth going for :) (that and building the picture of a system in your mind - then comparing it to the orrery)

The point is people still have ability to honk. They don't need to use FSS if they don't want to. Just bind the Discovery Scanner to the Fire Group, then honk. Every planet will appear in System Map like in the old mechanic - minus the info that you need to get either by going close enough to or using FSS.

Problem solved.

No. Doesn't work like that.

Honk gives you Orbital plane and number of bodies:
DwBQEpLWkAYAz8U

Which looks like this in the system map:
DwBQIECXQAAurwi

You need the FSS to get this:
DwBSCvEXgAI1IO7

I don't aspire to be so leet like you.

Not outside the bubble in truly unexplored systems. Nothing shows up in the system map, other than stars.

Whatever happened to watching the background to see if there was a planet in that direction? the whole "ooo this glowy spot moves when i do" thing? You absolutely dont need the FSS.
I honestly think people ing about this werent around exploring then and now they are ing that they cant do "exploring" aka jump honk jump repeat. Why even call yourself explorer if thats all you aspire to do. For everyhing else, the FSS is definitively superior, quickening things up.

I don't feel that any activities are forced per se, but as far as engineering goes I DO believe many engineers require gameplay that has NOTHING to do with the blueprints you want. Selene Jean is the first egregious example to spring to mind, requiring an exhaustive amount of mining (if mining isn't your thing) in order to get--of all things!--ARMOR and HULL reinforcements? There's no connection there at all, especially now that our own limpets can damage us.

Seems to me that engineers should be asking things of us that have SOMETHING to do with what they offer. Anybody that asks you to shoot a bunch of folks better be offering weapons and folks who ask you to bring them a whole bunch of crap better be offering something good for hauling, etc etc. As it is, our current "grid" of engineers is completely nonsensical COUGHMARCOCOUGHCOUGH sorry got some tedious redundant bulls&$& stuck back there...

Hm... I wonder what armor and hull is made of... Ah yes, metals... Now, how do I get those metals? I wonder... Maybe mining... dunno...

Hmmm...I wonder what almost every piece of equipment on every ship contains....ah yes. Metals.

Nice try, but your comeback wasn't nearly as clever as you think. Selene is not unique for wanting metals to make stuff so this isn't a sick burn. My point is that engineers require specific gameplay that is sometimes completely unrelated to the rewards they unlock. If a dedicated miner sees Selene and goes "ooh, she wants me to mine! Cool! I wonder what she'll give me? Better mining lasers? A new kind of refinery? ANYTHING TO DO WITH MINING?"

Nope. Just reinforcements. The non-miners probably hate having to mine to get them and the miners probably don't care about them much. That's terrible in my book.

Contrast that with, say, Felicity, who wants you to get some exploration rank and provide a meta alloy, both of which require a little searching around and more than a few jumps. What's her specialty? Frame Shift Drives. You know, something that directly affects your ability to travel and explore?

Or perhaps...Tod McQuinn. What does he want you to do? Go get some bounties and bring him some as proof. What's his forte? GUNS. Multicannons and rail guns above all. You know...stuff that's good for bounty hunting.

I could go down the grid, but the point is that some engineers have a clear connection between gameplay and reward. Some engineers have none at all--like Marco, for example. What does he want? A rep grind and cargo that can only be gained from odd mission rewards. What does he have? Powerplants and distributors--BOTH of which offer lesser grades than you're likely to have from other engineers--and NOTHING ELSE. He's worthless. There's no need to even pin a blueprint from him unless you REALLY want some very specific stuff from other engineers AND are willing to settle for G4 or G3 stuff. (a lot of us probably aren't.)

But if you want those G5 thrusters from Palin (and you do because they're worth it) then guess what?

You're damn sure forced to deal with Marco first. THAT is forced gameplay and it is an abomination.
