If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

Please define "we".
Wether you nor me have a clue how many were FOR and AGAINST the new mechanics. Would I be a "Communtiy-Manager" I would listen to the majority. I'm pretty sure lots of people partied the new fss (according to the livestream). But that is also a very subjective opinion.
As long as noone gives proof that the MAJORITY dislikes the new mechanics, i will BELIEVE that the fss was WANTED by the majority (although less noisy).

'We' is me and a few other people who have been prominent in these threads.

I'm not claiming that the majority of people want the FSS removed - which is why I'm not asking for the FSS to be removed.
I'm not claiming that the majority of people want the ADS restored.

What I WILL claim is that the majority of people wouldn't give a monkey's if the ADS was restored as an optional module, leaving the FSS functionality exactly as it is.

Until the thread got locked.

Like me, you sometimes get a little snarky, but all-in-all you were a reasonable voice in that thread. You helped change my mind! Others, not so much, and thus why the thread was closed.

I'm adding the following to my copy-n-paste documents, seeing I've said this over and over as well:

I would personally support accept the return of the ADS as a separate, optional, expensive, power-consuming module. It would add one simple thing to the current FSS – the populating of the system map of basic images of the planets in the system – no details, no zoomable 3D globes, no orrery – just the basic map to allow the targeting of planets of interest. I’d also be okay if the navigation panel was populated with “Undiscovered Astronomical Body” or some such. It would not change the FSS in any other way.

There must be something wrong with me. When I come across changes to the (any) game, I think 'oh, this is different,' take some time to figure them out, then continue playing.

I like the new FSS.
and you can count me in the list of people who wouldn't give a monkey's rear if they added back the old ADS as an optional module. :)

the 'whole community' never have and never will completely agree on any feature of the game.

Ain't that the truth. I've had people argue with me that I should accept bugs as "features", LOL. If we can't agree that bugs are bad, nobody is going to agree on whether a certain actual feature is good or bad.

Including me, that is. IF it's managable to implement both system. Why, the heck, not? Then I'm totally with you.
What bothers me are the thousands thread with the "I Don't like it"-topic WITHOUT any sugesstion.
So please don't take my "whinging" personal, cause all I want is some "whining" with reason, as you do (sorry, please no offense. English is not my native language ;) )

Guess i will never get whats there to dislike about the new FSS mechanic. Made 75% of my way to SAG A* with the old system during summer 2018. And i really did not feel like continueing as it grew tiresome. Continued during holiday with the new system, and i am almost back home after visiting SAG A* doing a side trip to colonia and a larger bow for some nebulas which did not lead directly back to the bubble. At least for me the new FSS mechanic kept me going and i even can imagine going out in the black. That for sure would not be the case with the old system.

Tedious? If all its WAY more efficient and less time consuming (unless you wanna map everyting that is). Right.... no more simple honking to get the whole system map, but that was not exploration anyways, imho. Exploration is what came after that, tediously flying from planet to planet to moon to moon to the next star to rinse and repeat. Oh yea... how i totally not miss that. So yes, i would totally get why people moan that were used to grab some extra cash along the way by honking each and every system. But for exploration purposes i deem it a great upgrade.
Especially as it gives me more flexibility to make decissions. But yea, to each their own i guess. [weird]

The entire Dangerous Discussion board is full of repetitive threads.

I get bored with the pointless whining threads too - they don't add anything to the discussion and just drown out the productive posts (from both sides).

Your English is way better than my German, so no apology necessary :D

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

I still think this is a step backwards. One of the cool parts of the new FSS scanning is when you zero in on a planet and 'resolve' it. That's cool.

If the ADS came back in the form you suggest it makes that new mechanic seem a bit pointless. If you honk and get imagery of all planets then you've basically discovered them all. Thus, you're back to the old system in its entirety.
