If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

No-one has asked for it to be removed. (to my knoweldge)

Tuned in/up (excuse the pun) is more the thing.

So what issue do those "fss-haters" have then? They don't like it...okay...fine...acknowledged...Any suggestions? I don't think the parallel-working old-/new-style will be doable. But why not?
For me, personally didn't like the old system...much too less to do to scan a system. I enjoy the FSS. But hey...it's just me.
What only counts is the descision of FDev. THEY decided to implement the FSS and found it worthy to go live.
And FDev already have the money of all those "dissapointed" explorers/tourists (no pun intended).

I simply don't get the point to open zillions of "I hate FSS"-threads just for the cause of it. It won't change ANYTHING. Just more moaning and grumbling that FDEV "never listens to us customers", what is NOT the truth, to be honest.

Interesting point about the gimbals. I like that idea.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand - I like tuning the radio. As I've said before it makes me feel like I'm actually doing science even if it's just a silly little mini game. People have likened it to Spock doing analysis at his little scope thing on the bridge, and that's true.

Maybe I'm just that itchy for space legs that I'll take anything that makes me feel like I can tear my rear end out of that pilot's seat. :D

Space EVA would be pretty boss for sure. As far as the scanner is concerned, I haven't tried it yet but have watched a bunch of videos and think it looks like a lot of fun. That includes videos by people who don't like it and present it in a supposedly negative light. It's mind boggling to me that people who fall in the "I hate it" demographic haven't found a way to adjust and just get on with it.

Until this spun up I didn't realize there was such a huge set of fracture lines in the community on the subject in the first place. I think someone stuck some of the new seismic charges in there.

Same. I was legitimately surprised to see the fracture lines, too.

Well if thats fdevs attitude then i think its far too much of a coincidence that they went round and killed off all the old bits of exploration. Look how long people made that thread cataloging sites. Along comes whoever it was with probes and its like they just....all over the community effort there. I mean i didnt put any of that effort in at all and i even felt bad on their behalf. They way the FSS was carefully and needlessly designed to stop the old gameplay. Somebody there hates explorers. Maybe it was cause we got away with it for so long, laughing at the bad game design and just ignoring it. Well we cant ignore it any more can we? argument won i guess.

Spock doesn't fly the ship Jenner :D

Far worse would be to let them believe that the whole community of seasoned Explorers have fun playing their stupid Pokemon Go....

Well..... Tell that to my very detailed, with multiple player confirmations, year-old bug reports :(

Though at least with bug reports, I'm pretty sure nobody (except the Russian bots) cares if bugs are fixed. Now if the FSS is "fixed" to make certain people happy, it'll make other people like myself unhappy, so in context of this thread, I agree with you Eliza.

let me point you to C&P, Engineers, Exploration, Mining, all changed because enough people whined/discussed/made their feelings known.

When all else fails, there's you wallet and the paint-shop.

Who still uses radio waves for communication in the 34th century anyway? Should be using light-based emissions.

Radio waves = EM emissions = light. It's the same as visible light, just outside the range of visible wavelengths and includes microwaves.

The FSS (like RL astronomy) however uses a range of detection regimes. Omni-directional Radio antennae, zooming directional visible range telescopes, and wide field graviton detectors.

Just as well we don't want them to discard the FSS.
Just give us back targetable bodies in the Nav Panel and leave the FSS as is

Having targetable bodies in the nav panel makes a mockery of the FSS. So no that is not a solution. It would ruin the whole experience for me.

Mutually exclusive modules I can live with, not that I can see FDev doing that. I can see them putting in the signals in Analysis mode after a honk without having to go into the FSS though, so that people can have a quick look to see whats in the system (but open to mistakes/errors) and leave.

Can't really think of anything else to be honest.

There's me thinking it was a min-game of hunt the 'O' with a joystick. :) :)

I think all of the mentioned topics have changed for the better (more or less (C&P)). But may i point out, that ther's a big difference between "whining" and "discussing". The first is childish. The latter is thought through by the most of the competitors.

Maybe...JUST maybe...FDev will rethink the FSS-Issue. But the ball is in our park. Point to FDev what COULD be improved (seriously) WITHIN the current FSS-state. MAYBE they will rethink the mechanics. How long did it take for the engineers and C&P to be reworked? 1 Year?
But one thing is pretty sure...they WON'T throw FSS into the bin.

See it how you want it. I see how it's meant to be seen. Pretty easy to do to be honest. Like all gameplay mechanics a modicum of imagination is needed. If you don't use it, it won't look good. All the mechanics in ED need a bit of imagination. It's the only way to immerse yourself into any game out there.

the 'whole community' never have and never will completely agree on any feature of the game.
pretty sure fdev know that. ;)

Explorers now wear the mantel of "whiniest player demographic."

We did that, after the initial announcement.
And again during the beta.
And again upon release.
Until the thread got locked.

We're still doing it (in between bouts of squabbling with people who either don't understand how the FSS works or don't understand what we're asking for).

Please define "we".
Wether you nor me have a clue how many were FOR and AGAINST the new mechanics. Would I be a "Communtiy-Manager" I would listen to the majority. I'm pretty sure lots of people partied the new fss (according to the livestream). But that is also a very subjective opinion.
As long as noone gives proof that the MAJORITY dislikes the new mechanics, i will BELIEVE that the fss was WANTED by the majority (although less noisy).

The whole point of exploring is to be the first and get your name on thing-x as discovered by you.

Well, I must be a very successful explorer then, as I've got my name on probably hundreds of systems... :D

Sadly, the chance that anyone else has actually visited any of those systems is miniscule (with less than 1% of the galaxy actually explored), and if they did, I highly doubt they remember the name of the intrepid CMDR who got there first.

Now I feel like such a loser. :(

:D :D
