If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

Is there anybody left that doesnt know where the major monies come from? Its what you do before you go exploring. Pays for your anaconda.

I always thought the original ADS was cheating once I moved up from eyeballing stuff with the basic scanner.

Much prefer the new system.

The beta is been and gone, and irrelevant now. I'm comparing what we have now, to what we had in 3.2.

You are right. You brought it up, it's irrelevant & still there is neither any justification for removing it, nor will any of the now happy campers be inconvenienced or have their gameplay disrupted by putting them back.

So the obvious solution is to put them back into the game as purchasable modules in outfitting, and the BDS being supplied in all new ships including the sidewinder/freewinder.

The only objection is as Stigbob quite rightly raised earlier, justifying the dev time required to put them back in. IMO they should never have been removed.

I don't think they'd need to put the ADS back in, just change it so that the FSS honk populates the nav panel list and the system map (e.g. what you get when you enter a system that's already been scanned - what the old ADS used to do).

I hope that FD wont screw up the FSS because of the FSS haters. Instead they should separate them, so either you equip your ship with the old ADS or the new FSS. It should not be both at the same time. Then you could play the Exploration game the way you want - the new or the old way.

Sort of, yes. Personally I'd be happy with that. However in a previous thread a point was raised that some do not want to 'spoil the reveal' - that is to say they want to only use the FSS and not the functionality of the ADS so keeping it as an optional module makes sure that all eventualities are covered. A player could choose not to enter the FSS screen & do it all more or less as before with an ADS fitted (the auto-resolving of nearby bodies is a nice QoL update imo), the player that is happy to sacrifice the extra functionality of the ADS can go without, saving a little mass & power and freeing up a valuable module slot, the tourist or whatever derogatory term people prefer can fit both & wander around looking at things with their eyes.

Everybody wins, no downside. No one gets an OP build, no future content is denied from any player (because we all have an FSS now whether we want to use it or not).

NO!!!!!! There are a bunch of us who love the FSS because it leaves the system map blank. Don't mess with the FSS!

If the ADS is brought back as an optional, separate module, at least we who love the FSS as-is can ignore it.

I hope so too. I'm taking great pains to make sure this is as clearly stated as possible. There is no issue with using both together that is not offset by the slight mass & power consumption cost to fitting an ADS, and by not fitting one a valuable module slot is freed up (eg for a guardian booster in a small ship).

The Meta exploration build will be one without an ADS/IDS/BDS.

I'd be completely fine with that.

That would ruin the whole mechanic for me. That is not a solution.

Metoo

All camps happy.
I have no doubt that someone somewhere would use this, apparently reasonable compromise, for major salt generation; 'tis the nature of the beast.

Dev time is not a reason for anything. Keeping the playerbase happy is all the justification that is needed.

It's like saying x percentage don't want space legs so lets not add it.

The great big elephant in the room is that players pay the devs salaries. Without the players they'd be looking for new jobs. Fact.

And seriously, how much dev time would be required to allow either 1 of FSS or the module we had ? 1 dev 35 minutes ?

Re that last bit... I don't want to just auto resolve win, anything I get I want to have earned and have a choice about getting it... I'd like an option for Auto-resolve
That is my biggest gripe and the reason I can't be bothered to play now

Many many moons ago I made a call for Asteroid belts to not auto-resolve, instead ED went the other direction and gave us all the Stars and local bodies too... that was a smack I didn't want.

The ADS never left the stage, it is still there, only the functionality changed.
But they are not going to remove stuff because 3 guys don't like it, so rest assured. Engineers would have been dust if that was the case. Or CQC, or PowerPlay, or closed modes, or P2P, or SuperCruise, or ZZzzzzz....
