If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

Yeah don't know what happened there but an entire paragraph was mission, not that it matters as some would have mis-read it anyway :D

More a problem of text based forums, in that some only read they want to read, some only see what they want to see and other read and see things completely different to what they read or saw.

There's room for reflection and movement on both sides. A 300 yr old stationary jammed in the ground Oak tree, while mature and wise, can still be an obstacle to progress.

and in 50 years where will be?

and 100?

do you not think that by the time we have broken the barrier of the speed of light we will have some slightly better ways of detecting astro bodies?

Not really. We have only identified a tiny number of planets outside our solar system. In fact, even in our own solar system, we're still finding planets. 20 years ago we thought there were only 9 planets in our solar system...

So now you think that the FSS is too powerful (2-20 mins pers system), which then means the old ADS (5 seconds) was way too powerful then.

Completely off-topic :)

It always amazes me to hear Mr Braben claim that the galaxy we fly in is a one-to-one representation of our galaxy. How does he know? Considering there are billions of stars/systems, and if we allowed for 1 byte per system, he'd need one helluva huge memory bank to store it.

Meanwhile, shadows still look like dancing, phase-shifting crap on PS4....

If I wanted dancing, I would rather play Fortnite!

Hops into a system, presses a button, checks the system map, nah, not a nice system, hops to the next system, presses a button, checks the system map, nah, not a nice system, hops to the next system, presses a button, checks the system map, nah, not a nice system, hops to the next system, presses a button, checks the system map, wow, is that a HMC orbiting a gas giant orbiting a gas giant, lets check it out to relieve the monotone hopping, cancels FSD charge, flies to gas giants and HMC, spends an hour checking those out, is entertained and ready for the next stretch of hops, hops to the next system, presses a button, checks the system map, nah, not a nice system, hops to the next system, presses a button, checks the system map, nah, not a nice system, hops to the next system, presses a button, checks the system map, nah, not a nice system, hops to the next system, presses a button, checks the system map, nah, not a nice system, hops to the next system, presses a button, hops to the next system, presses a button, checks the system map, trinary landable HMCs! Jackpot! Wheeee!

Exploration baby, yeah!
Look ma! A blue blob! And another one! this system is gold!

Exploration baby, yeah!

That's how it works right now with the FSS.

But once you have checked the blue blobs you can go back to the system map, view the new orrery and then if you want still go fly to those places.

It's just in the wrong order (for some players).

Bad car analogy incoming:
If you want to drive to a location in an other city you don't know. You take a map and look up where to go. If you don't have a map you go buy one.
Buying a map after you reached your destination is rather pointless.
Edit: And then you find out that you didn't have to drive to that location at all.
(Yes I know, nobody uses maps anymore as GPS navigation is so much better)

The problem some players have is that they used the system map as a starting point. Flying to places was a necessity to get information about those places. Looking at the map and flying to places where methods of exploration.

With the new exploration system this completely changed. Getting the system map is now the goal of the FSS. Flying to places is optional and in most cases unneeded as probing an object doesn't reveal anything more than the location of surface POIs. Probing a non-landable planet/moon doesn't result in more information and only adds a new tag to the object.

No you are confusing Harry's legit guns that he ground for (probably madly but fairly) with the 5-1 engineering exploit which a couple of groups kept to themselves for a year.

If he'd cheated to get them they'd have been taken away. The fact he still has them shows the two are unrelated.

I am referring to the grade 5 rolls using grade 1 mats. FDev were aware of it and said it was as intended. Further, they were informed during beta of that release it was a problem, and they again said it was 'as intended'.

Maybe because he has never said that.

[citation needed]

My understanding of the 5-for-1 exploit reporting was that it had been reported to FDev but it's significance was overlooked. Once FDev fully understood the situation it was dealt with. I was motivated to start my Combat Logging Punishment Proposal thread by the outcome of the 5-for-1 exploit, as a way for FDev to show an even-handed approach to clamping down on the use of exploits. AFAIK nothing has changed so far.

What we have with the exploration update is a situation that it easily resolved in a way where no player is disadvantaged compared to what they had pre-3.3 but was seemingly overlooked. The only parallel is the importance of making sure the issue is understood and acknowledged, so it can be quickly solved.

No that's all false. Two players group spanked the 5-1 cheat in secret and FDEV biffed it as soon as it was public knowledge. Grinding for god mods was entirely different and was legit (if a bit daft). The fact Harry still has his guns proves you are confusing the two.
